At the beginning of the video it looks like they are already bent.
I do it almost this way but way gentle. Allow the card halves to fan out some and slide together. The edges of the sleeves can get a bit bent if you're not careful, but it's a small prince to pay.

my roommate has been doing a shuffle similar but he aproaches from the corners. he tried to do this with one of my decks with my rhystic study. I almost got arrested for murder that day.

It's called a faro shuffle. PS Magic cards stock are made with paper that cannot release bends. Don't do this please.. This shuffle is for actual playing cards that have durability and can bend back..

I used to know a guy who did this. He wasn’t nearly as aggressive and it looked way cooler but the fact he did it with his legacy deck always made me cringe.
I almost never physically cringe when watching a video, but that first shuffle did it 😂
I personally dont like this shuffle, i do the first one. But one guy at my LGS does it your way.
They're your cards, you can shuffle them how you like. I wouldnt like other people to shuffle my cards that way and I'd probably ask them to stop if it was a legacy deck or something expensive.
I once leant a deck to a guy who used to mash the cards so aggressively he broke 3 sleeves in one night of FNM. Didnt let him borrow a deck again after that. Fully foiled amulet titan in modern, woth invocations and the lot
This is the most cave man "style" of shuffling cards. I wouldn't do that with a 50€ deck, let alone mine. Go in the corner and think about where your life went wrong
But why?? First off, this isn’t new. This is, as he suggested, a side variant of “the bridge.” But this is completely unnecessary and potentially harmful for your cards if they are sleeved as his are.
The bridge is a technique used to reverse the effects of traditional shuffling wherein you flip both halves of the deck into themselves from the top/bottom sides of the cards by slightly bending them and slowly releasing each card. Because you have to bend them one way when doing this, people incorporate the bridge so as to reverse the bend in the cards and help keep them straight.
You could do a side shuffle so as to avoid the bending altogether but that can be potentially harmful for the edges of your cards if they are not sleeved. However, a side shuffle is the safest shuffle for sleeved cards as the edges are protected. Plus the edges of sleeves come to a sharp edge which allows for them to easily slide between one another, as opposed to the thicker edges of cards that easily obstruct one another.
So the fact that he is performing a side bridge on sleeved cards is pointless and harmful to the cards. It provides no benefit as he is not using it to reverse the effects of the opposite bend, and it risks potentially folding and damaging the cards.
I don’t play magic but I feel a sense of unity in the community seeing the comments here. Don’t touch my cards.

Bridging doesn't damage normal playing cards unless done really poorly, but thatS because the image on the cards are "sown" into them. NEVER DO THIS WITH PAINTED ART CARDS. And just learn how to fucking shuffle, it's not hard and trains dexterity jesus.
i do this sorta, i do a normal shuffle but but i use my right hand and push down and towards my right so it looks like im doing this but im not so i still look cool without damaging my very expensive cards

Cards should _Always_ be face to palm, and no reflective surface should be near the shuffler(i.e. cellphones/ipads/sunglasses).
Phones should be moved, shuffling should be face down, and while not a hard rule, it's good practice to look forward at your opponent while shuffling, because if the eyes aren't on the cards, slight of hand becomes far more difficult.
My tribal angel deck was next to me while watching this and now its gone............

I’ve shuffled my cards like this for years and they have zero damage or wear. Including several cards valued at over $200 USD. As long as they’re sleeved up they’re good.
