Modern Indian Navy ships really seem underarmed. And this is not just the case with kamorta corvettes. Just look at the recently revealed MEKO A300 class frigates for the Polish Navy which are much more heavily armed than our Nilgiri frigates despite being 1500 tonnes lighter displacement wise.

Taking the instance of the Kamorta Class frigates, sometimes it seems like Indian defence planners lack basic foresight. Look at the aircraft lifts of the INS Vikrant. They should have foreseen bigger aircrafts being operated from its decks. Similarly, they should have ensured proper air defence in their ships. If the Israelis can think afar, why can't Indians. It doesn't cost anything to be farsighted.
Thank you for acknowledging that the P28 Kamorta is a useless pile of junk and directing our attention to the Saar 6. Unfortunately the IN and MOD have their own interpretation of stealth, armaments, etc and hence the next generation corvette will be an incremental build on the P28.

Most Indian Navy ships are lacking enough air defence missiles. Even Kolkata Class destroyers have only 32 Barak missiles. Many times, these ships are responsible for providing air defence to aircraft carriers. In those times, they would lack enough SAM to protect themselves and aircraft carriers. I think, Kolkata Class destroyers can still install some Mistral Simbad RC or Tor SAM.
It would have been better had these NGC been a dedicated anti submarine warfare ship. Kamorta is frankly disappointing and the 16 shallow watercraft being built for coastal defence would be inadequate. If they manage to squeeze 8 heavyweight torpedo tubes along with say 64VLS for VLSRSAM-LRSAM combo even at the expense of anti ship capabilities it would be big W. Those next generation missile boats can work in tandem with these ships to make it a complete package. Those missile boats was very well equipped for anti surface/land attack roles as they carry equal Brahmos to a 6600 tonnes frigate. We should potentially order a dozen each of them and have them deploy in Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea. We may not afford 30 frigates as of now but we very well can afford 50 of those Corvettes.
First Kamorta class corvette was designed in around 2003 and construction started in 2006. It is an old design. Navy didn't plan so much for this class of ship.

Those surface to surface missile can be NASM SR bhi ho skti hai.... Because vo perfectly fit baithti hai in corvette ke liye! Range wise bhi, weight Wiese bhi or warhead wise bhi.... Or may be NASM MR ya LR version use Kiya jaye!!
A frigate based on kamorta class won the frigate tender for Phillipines navy but it was disqualified afterwards due to financial problem of GRSE(there were given many reasons such as they believed GRSE wouldn't be able to deliever the frigates on time and GRSE is only able to survive because of Indian govt.) , After this Phillipines ordered jrc frigate by South korea

I feel these 8 Next Generation Corvettes would be replacing 4 Kora Class & 3 Khukri Class Guided Missile Corvettes which are scheduled to retire 2030 onwards. So expect orders to be placed by around 2025. Hopefully both 8 Next Generation Corvettes & 6 Next Generation Missile Boats (ideally we require atleast 10-12) would be based on Israeli Sa'ar 6 Corvettes having more than decent firepower & atleast enough air defence capabilities to protect itself. This would to some extent offset the capability gap being faced with Kamorta Class Corvettes (even after VL SRSAM is integrated). Any Carrier Battle Group would likely have 1-2 Kamorta ASW Corvettes, 1-2 Guided Missile Boats & 2 Next Generation Corvettes apart from 2 Destroyers, 2-3 Frigates, 1-2 Minesweepers, 2 SSN & maybe 1 SSBN. This would be a combination of good firepower & air defence capabilities to deal with Chinese Carrier Battle Groups in Indian Ocean Region. Enough to deter them.
India needs to have its own Naval radar. Kamorta Class has BEL Revathi radar. An upgraded AESA version needs to be developed for future warships.
And naval ships engines too.
