Jackson Falls is a phenomenal area to experience. The Boy Scout Troop I'm with have visited this area for about 15 years currently & I've done several solo backpacking overnights here. It is crazy pretty with the falls frozen (did a Frozen video & an Unfrozen). Trails can be found down in the canyon as well as up on top. There is a nice lake to the South that is accessible via a trail there, as well as a road access found further South (that road does NOT connect to the canyon unfortunately). There are no less than 4 waterfalls that can be found here when the water is running. If you are into Rock Climbing - this is a MUST HIT spot. I've met guys from Chicago down for the stinking DAY to climb here, that's at least a 6 hour drive North!
Yeah, a really great spot! In warmer months, yeah, watch for snakes...

Thanks for the comment. The whole region is packed full of cool places. I wish I lived closer! I was back for the eclipse last summer. Love the area, Southern Illinois is one of my favorite places.

To date this is my most favorite spot in the entire Shawnee Forest. Even took my wife there on our first date. oh and the "Beach" was pretty much straight away from the stairs lol

Bell Smith was way more fun than I thought it would be... and no horses!

Not here. The camping area is first come first serve. Has water and poop houses. Good for primitive family camping.
