"That's no cheerleader that's my niece, Becky. She's pissed." The calmness of that statement always tickles me. You'd think he'd more nervous because he KNEW how good she was but I'm just now realizing as an adult he knew that kid Spike deserved whatever the Icebox was about to deliver to his butt 😎 Good lookin out Unc for keeping him in the game 😂
And what's even better is he obviously saw she was coming in after the cheap shot on her crush. True story...when I was playing rugby about this age, our team when up against a team with a girl. Some of my teammates were laughing, pointing and making fun before the game, like 10 year old boys would. I kept thinking, if she’s playing, she must be good. And....she kicked the shit out of us! Ran in three tries on us...no matter how tough we tried to defend against her, we couldn’t stop her...and our coach was laughing his ass off at us haha
They even had characters who should have been actual “good players” like that WR who has legit speed, but can’t catch to save his life. (Of course trickery and team chemistry let him overcome that problem when it mattered most) They went pretty far on the “you don’t have to fit a stereotype” angle in this movie, it worked well
Hell i still watch it over and over as it was prob my fav movie as a kid and now im 40 i appreciate it in a diff way. I appreciate it because its just a simple feel good movie that has a charm about it. It takes your mind off the real world out and invested into the nice simple feel good story at least an hour and a half.
all these great comments from people that loved the movie as a feel good simple family movie and of course there has to be that one jackass that wants to complain about something. smh gtfo
Spike was the perfect protagonist lol. In my Pop-Warner days I always took off my helmet like Spike did with that silly smirk walking back to sidelines lol 😆
Loved this as a kid. Never noticed it before but it's kinda funny how sweaty she got just from walking from the side line. Puts black makeup under her eyes, no sweat. Literally just walked onto the field and hasn't even played yet, face covered in sweat.
She had to go play the rest of the game to defend her man Junior! Love it, one of my favourite movies.
Junior wasn't her man. He didn't even like her. He liked Debbie.

When Becky asks if im pretty and her uncle says no , you're beautiful , I teared up that was so cute :)
It was but he was jumpin for joy inside because he knows with the icebox out of the game it be an easy win

Classic movie. I will forever remember the phrase “the annexation of Puerto Rico.”
“ that’s no cheerleader, that’s my niece Becky, she’s pissed “

Reina Arana! Best line of the movie!!
When I saw my best friend getting bullied and stuff b6 the other team this happens.
One of my favorite lines next to,
" Oh doctor" (window) and
" Giants! Giants!!
Help us god!"
And with that tone, Kevin is telling Spike's dad "This is all your AND your son's fault."..
Ed O’Neil killed it in this scene.
Yes omg.
Ed O'Neil was good in this movie no doubt.
The whole movie bro
Even though he wanted to win, but he wasn’t having it when it comes to his niece.
Al bundy at its best
What a nice and supportive uncle that Ed O'Neill played. Love this scene a lot!
Ed O'Neill. No wonder he sounded like some guy who rushed for four touchdowns in a high school football game (Al Bundy).
Lol he shoulda let her play for his team and they woulda never lost 😂
He only said that because he wanted to manipulate her into quitting.
“That’s no cheerleader, that’s my niece Becky. She’s pissed.” Best line in the movie.
Way he says it is perfect

For all the character's faults, he cares about keeping integrity and honor in the game. He won't applaud underhanded, or overly-aggressive, moves.
