I heard that it can simply be attributed to the natural hormones one's own body produces. Sometimes we can have a hormone imbalance that causes acne. Yet other times this hormone balance is inherent and needs medical support to correct. I have to go on hormonal treatment to treat my heavy periods. Food hasn't helped and my life quality is much lower being anemic. So I am getting some tests and medications to correct the issue.
I'm a lifelong vegetarian, have never eaten meat or eggs in my life. Haven't had dairy in almost 20 years, and have been fully whole foods plant based for almost 10 years with near perfect compliance. I exercise daily outdoors, sleep 8 hours in a regular schedule every night, and drink over a gallon of water a day. I love this diet and plan to eat and live this way forever. I enjoy many health benefits from this lifestyle, but I continue to suffer from severe, treatment resistant cystic acne and bouts of highly inflammatory eczema. Even as I enter middle age, no improvement. I've been on every Rx, every OTC and home remedy including tea tree, been tested for every allergy. Even three rounds of Accutane. Nothing. I've learned to accept my skin the way it is (stressing about your appearance isn't healthy), but of course I would love a solution. Is there anything else I could possibly do?
Sorry to hear that 😕 Have you had your hormones checked? You could try having a cup of spearmint tea every day for a month. Other than that I use a chemical exfoliant every night (glycolic acid). It's the only skincare product that actually made a difference for me. I still struggle with some amount of small pimples, but the painful cysts on my chin are gone.
I understand your situation as I am going through something similar. Well, I ve been vegan for almost 2 years now and I still get pimples even though I try to eat as healthy as possible, have a good sleep, I exercise everyday, I drink plenty of water and teas. I came to the conclusion, that I have to accept myself, my skin the way it is, just like you said. I think we are still beautiful the way we are :). All the best!!
Something is still causing you issues. Eczema is a sign of underlying autoimmune issues. I suffered from eczema my whole life. I clear mine up by avoiding gluten, dairy, and sugar. So if you have not tried giving up gluten, it may be worth a shot. Everyone has different triggers, but it is always possible that yours could be similar to mine.
Try eating low fat. I tried everything (yes, even urine therapy) and was eating whole food vegan but when I stopped eating fatty food (seeds, nuts/nut butters, tofu, avocado), the acne finally went away. Now I can eat small amounts of whole food that is high fat, but if I go a little over, acne comes back, so I know it's the fat. Tea tree oil may help with the inflamed kind of acne, but what I had was greasy, clogged pores and cystic acne and it did not helped that. Benzoyl peroxide dries out your skin, but it was too harsh for me.
It might be the omega-6 fats, specifically. Did you notice if you can get away with more avocado, olive oil, chia seeds, and flax? Those have more monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fats.
I think it might be all the omega 6 and salt in sunflower seeds typically. I just ate a lot the last few days now I have red sore spots on my shoulders. I think these would be best unsalted and eaten in small amounts. I will probably just throw out the ones I have, though.
What I'm just learning is that guess what? We've been killing our skin biome with soaps. This links in to the uptick in eczema and more as you'll find if you look. Conventional bathing and frequent baths is wrecking our the biome of our skin. Turns out there's a biome for everything. This is not directly on point with acne but I found out because I've been WFPB for 6 years almost but in recent years got itchy and eczema issues. Skin biome management turns out is the answer from more than one practicing dermatologists, one from Britain the other from Canada. There's also an American MD pushing a book on the subject, but I doesn't appear that he has any experience with medical practice-and as such I do prefer the wise words of those more experienced. Feel free to choose your favorites, it won't change the facts. I won't be using soap again, not any conventional ones if any at all.
@@ASMRyouVEGANyet Ignorance smells too. See George Moncrieff or Sandy Skotnicki to reduce such. Perhaps learn of your skin biome as well. It is crucial to good health, but we ignorantly abuse it with modern soaps. Eczema in children is one unhappy result.
I believe the American MD you're referring to is James Hamblin - his book was very interesting if you care more about the history of how we got to this point in our soap-filled, daily (or more) shower world, or the possible future of skin microbiome science. But if you're looking for straightforward advice, I'd look elsewhere
