In the pursuit of not being a perfectionist try to live with it. No one else will likely notice or care, so here’s an opportunity for you to develop peace with imperfection. Focus on recalling the joy of the journey you had in making it. 💗

Yes please give it a try. Sometimes I find myself focusing on a tiny detail, and after a while I realize it's not as big of a deal as I thought. I myself didn't notice the slant until you pointed it out. Even then, to me, looks lovely.

Love the colors of your Alpenglow! It reminds me of a beautiful sunset over the mountains in the desert. If you don't want to swatch your colors, you could take a photo of the colors next to each other and convert it to mono/black and white to see if there is enough contrast.

For the Lento, all you really need to do is unpick one round at the fold and then graft it back together moving over the number of stitches needed to make it lay better.

Hello! With the lento sweater, all is not lost! Assuming you knit top down and knit the cast on edge together with the visible edge, you don’t have to cut it all out! You can (carefully) make a cut just on the inside edge around one of the first rows you knit (close to the cast on edge), put the remaining collar stitches on hold (the part you didn’t cut), and rip out from where you did cut towards the cast on edge. Once you’ve ripped out the cast on edge, the slanting stitches will no longer be knit together with anything, and your collar won’t be folded as such. Then pick up the collar and knit the amount of rows you ripped out so that it folds correctly, cast off and knit or sew it down to recreate the folded collar. Sorry that wasn’t super clear, hopefully it helps a little and hopefully there is a video somewhere to demonstrate!

I knit a top down sweater that had a neck that I was unhappy with. I finally decided to take the risk and tediously rip it back and re-knit it. And I’m so glad that I did! Your Lento sweater is gorgeous! I appreciate your sharing the challenges along with the successes. We all have the same struggles. Also, I finally mastered armholes. I pick up more stitches than the designer calls for. I make sure that I am picking up extra stitches in the areas the holes occur. I immediately reduce them in the next row. It has resolved any issues with holes. Thanks for sharing your beautiful knits!

Hi I’m an Oakland resident also. I enjoy your color and sweater choices. I love your new Andrea sweater I want one just like it!!! it is absolutely gorgeous. Your color choices are superb. IMHO I think you should just do the Swedish wool sweater in two colors. Although anything you do will be beautiful. I especially love the creamy white top part. The burgundy is such a high contrast to the other soft colors. I think it might pull your eye down to the lower part of the sweater.IDK.But utilizing it throughout would be nice. I think just using two colors, or the soft 3. The tan and cream together are really beautiful.🦊
Your Creative modifications have turned out well. Good intuition.

Wow.....I feel extremely lucky and grateful, so much joy coming my way. Your Lento is gorgeous and I think you will know what to do after wearing it, good plan. I'm paralyzed with color choices for the Alpenglow so putting that pattern on pause, love your choices and the "extra" touches! The InspredbyEllenKal has some great creations and yours will join those ranks. To get an idea of contrast, I've taken a picture of the colors side by side in black and white frame to see if it was the contrast "level" I wanted, switching in unsound colorwork.....for me would be a no, just sayin. So glad to have found you and I will check out the new to you podcast as well. Thanks for hanging out!

For the lento/fold over collars, I put markers every 20 stitches or so to remind myself to follow the stitch around the fold over neckband to make sure the live stitch is in line with where it’s being knit down. I hope that’s a helpful tip!

Hi!! I just wanted to say that your lento looks great! I would have never known the collar is slanted! it could be a situation where you're just too close to it if that makes sense, obviously do what is right for you and what you want but I don't think its a detail anyone but you will notice when you're wearing it! Maybe take a step back from it for a while so you can revisit it with fresh eyes before you do too much more?

  • @Phylena

Your Lento is stunning! I don’t know if this will help with the current collar issue, but something to try going forward for a fold over collar is to do a provisional cast on to a spare cable needle (it’s much easier than it sounds, I promise!), knit the collar and the knit it together. I used to have that same issue with fold over collars (or they would be too tight) and now I don’t anymore. Hope that helps. Love your knits and podcast!

I just bought mohair today to go with my Lento sweater yarn. After seeing your stripes it’s going to seem so plain. Both my mohair and my primary fingering yarn are a Seaglass-ish color. It is very late I was going to look at the Lento pattern/the collar to see how it is constructed. i’m sure there is somebody out there who can help you with it if you need it. That would bug me too. And it might be a little bit uncomfortable. Reknitting it you might be able to in eliminate the elastic also, which I’m not a big fan of.

Oh my gosh! Love love your messaging…. Burn the candle… wear the dress… right!?! I’m on the same boat also aka perfectionist in reality check mode 😂😂 so much fun to be honest. I love your #inspiredbyellen plans. Either one will be fantastic. Pick the one that makes your heart sing. I made a hat as a toe-dip #inspiredbyellen item while I think about what else might hatch. I made a Nordic hat with the peacock pattern in black and white with a multicolor dot in the middle of the colorwork feather (hope that makes sense). So four rows had the three colors to carry. I added a Latvian braid and am contemplating a multicolored tassel. Not sure yet, but giving in to play really makes this fun. Thanks again for chatting and sharing your process.
