Endgame i allways have a garden with 10 of each plants and living of the land 3 (but 2 is enough, i think) and i use Sham Shouders and Fortitude Glasses = + 2 Fortitude :)
I think the most frustrating part is the lack of seeds even when speced into living off the land lv 3. I've had many times where I planted 5/6 super corn only to get one or sometimes ZERO seeds from it. Like you said you do get triple the harvest but it takes weeks to build up your stash before u can confidently start crafting stuff with it and not be worried about running your supply dry.
Thanks Vedui, very useful content. I find the new farming system a bit frustrating, I used to develop level 2 living of the land pretty early on, and now it's useless to do so. Last game I planted a coffee seed and farmed 4 beans from it after the wait, so ended up with less coffee beans than before and no way to make another seed, what a waste of precious skill points early on.. I'd have preferred that plants don't break 100% of the time every time you harvest them but perhaps them having a 25-35% chance of them breaking instead if they wanted to address the excess food problem later in the game
Tbh the fun pimps need to stop micromanaging the systems already in place and focus on the systems they said they'd add. Tuning and balancing on an alpha is kinda pointless and the changes to the farming also makes the game unfun :(
No the video starts at 00:00 .. however nowadays the tiktok generation of viewing habits expects everything at once, with little fluff to begin with. So things are changing, takes a bit to adapt to! :)
@@Vedui42 The TikTok generation doesn't watch 15 minutes long videos, because TikTok clips don't last 15 minutes usually. Eh well, it's just me you know. I've heard too many intros. I've been around the lands of TH-cam since before people were expecting star-based ratings and "favorites".
Yeah that's why I mentioned the viewing habits. It's all connected, people don't read books as payoffs are too slow, etc. It makes it an issue for youtube, as youtube is great for longer format... but there's still expectation (and I'm guilty of it too, when I watch a video I wanna get into the meat of it quickly) but it also makes the videos more...dry. Less personal, less individualistic for creators.
It's true in the sense they are "simulating" it. My point is, in older versions you had the specific fertilizer and a richer way to handle farming with or without fertilizer. They "dumbed" it down, which I think was very dumb.
5 crops per seed is too steep an ask should be 4 max, but I need crops for herbal antibiotics & pumpkin cheesecake so kinda need the perks in the long run. I always found the punching crops thing to be absurd, we need a scythe or something.
I think 3-4 would be better, for sure. And just don't break the plant. Sure it's logical to need to replant, but it's also logical for them to take months to grow, not 2 days!
Same as for any schematics, you can either unlock them with skill points in things like advanced engineering, or loot/buy the schematic to unlock it sooner.
Without the actual skill ranks in LOTL it is utterly pointless to make seeds from crops because you will only ever experience massive loss and zero gain. Learning the recipes without the skill ranks makes the stand-alone recipes meaningless.
It's for if you don't want to spend the points. But yes, in general, since you unlock it by skilling into it the actual seed-recipes are less useful in Alpha 20.
when you stand by Rekt, it looks like 2 different games, shows TFP have their heads in the right place. if they would stop focusing on how to thwart jawoodles latest hoard build, and focus on making the game consistent, these minor issues would go by not noticed.
Yep! I mean it's good the traders are HD... but come on... we've had the same player characters for years, and they're looking way dated... even years ago they looked dated!
Yes, I find it tedious. I farm 50 farm plots. And now I gotta remember how many I had of each, divide the seeds up, then re-craft the correct amount, then shift to hotbar and go through and replant. Hard? No. Tedious? Extremely!
Simple answer to these sort of problems is to just mod. You can change it so 1 Corn yields 10 seeds, 1 Potato yields 6 or so 'seeds', etc. You can re-enable 'ground growing' as well. You can justifylower seed costs to yourself if you consider you 'pay' for it when you create a Farm Plot. That's how I handle it in m'haid - otherwise I get all fustery about 2 day grow times and 5 ears of Corn for one frackin seed - see, the Nukes, they changed the plants, yeah, so they grow up to 90x quicker but their seeds, OMG, have only like a 0.02% Germination Rate. Ore & Metal processing is just as insane, but DAMN!, I love this game - because FP gives you a great framework and the ability change / customize things to get 'happier'. For fun, I changed a lot of Grow, Smelt & Craft times to roughly 10% of 'real world' - my wife had a laugh - my Granddaughters came unhinged - made threats, scowled, growled...
Modding is outside of probably 99 % of the player's comfort zones :) Ultimately it just means for most that they ignore farming, and do just fine as food is plentiful. Which is a pity, as reduces farming and survival aspects of the game.
1 point in lotl makes sustained farming possible, but I would only suggest trying it when you have a lot of each crop to plant. The rng can be a stone cold *&%^ sometimes and it would suck to say, only have 2 corn planted, harvest them, and get no seeds. But the more you plant, the better your odds of getting to that 50% average and being able to maintain and maybe even grow, your total crops. Otherwise, yeah, wait till you have 3 points if for some reason you feel the urge to plant crops. It honestly feels so superfluous to the game though. Eggs are a lot easier to find, and are also often sold at the traders, so bacon and eggs is easy to stockpile for really nice meals without ever needing to harvest a single crop. And as Ved said, you can harvest or buy crops as well pretty dang easy if you really want them. On top of which you have vending machines selling food and drink daily, and lootable food and drink, and food and drink for sale from the traders, there is no excuse to ever starve unless you are doing some sort of crazy challenge. They really need to buff up home made food. Its the only way it will ever be worth doing aside from rp reasons.
Yes. LOL 1 does allow you to have a sustainable farming, it's just the yield is a pain, and honestly you might as well spend the time looting and wild-foraging and just planting seeds you find :D
Wow, I just came back to 7 days after a long hiatus to find this out, this change SUCKS! Replanting is a HUGE quality of life nerf. Even if they wanted to reduce the amount of food, replacing is garbage!
IMO it is quite ridiculous to make one corn seed you need to muse 5-cobs while you only get max 3-cobs per plant, I know you also geg some seed with the cobs but the ratio is NFG.
Yep! Consider each cob has I think up to a thousand seeds. You have the same to a lesser extent with other fruits, potatoes doesn't require 5 potatoes to make a new plant for instance.
@@Vedui42 this may be very stereotypical but I feel like an Irish with a real insane hankering for some potatoes. 😀 We discovered a POI with a mushroom farm, another with a corn farm and another with a super corn farm and the one POI with a potato farm had like 6 plants only. Great video as usual. Farming is OK for multiplayer if one person specs into it, but it doesn't work for a single player until later in the game. As you said, "Once you can spare the points". Too many places to put the valuable points. Best for single players to hunt animals, loot and buy food. You can always use one of the faming mods to get a seed 100% of the time from the start.
if you don't have LOL 2, then one must get the book for all of the seeds for food. this is sometimes very hard, so discussing LOL1 with corn is kinda pointless. even for A 19, books were required, or LOL 2 was required. this meant that even for A19, farming was a long-waited goal. in short, i am glad they made this change. i do think that the LOL 1 should have been boosted to a 60% seed chance while LOL 2 should have a 70% chance, and LOL 3 an 80% chance. regardless, i don't see this as being so much a determent since the wildlife has been greatly increased. farming kind of takes from the hunting side. i wish they increased deer instead of wolves, bears and mountain lions though. this is not fun to walk around when on foot.
