If you go to places outside the big cities and municipalities where tourists or foreigners are not normally seen, people will normally stare at you. This is not just on foreigners but even to fellow Filipinos as well that are not from their area. Most of this is about curiosity and to see if you might need help.

In a foreign country, if you stick out from the "ordinary" you get stared at or at least looked at. I've experienced that in Eastern Europe where people are not used to seeing a "Filipino." Even in the Philippines, I have experienced this even people coming up to me asking "what" I am. Because I just don't blend in with the crowd. It's natural curiosity, very human, same with the animal kingdom when you put 2 species together in an enclosure, they'll be sniffing each other....he he he
I had a similar experience in Eastern Europe, I was a celebrity over there, and everybody wants to be my friend, matter of fact I had a personal record of picking up the most girls there in one day at a club. One of the most memorable was this hottest girl in the club came up to me and decided to kiss-attack me and start making out with me without asking permission, my local Czech friend was shocked, not that I'm complaining lol. I did get 1 phone # every 10 minutes dressed like a gangster lol. Then when I was in Makati, a couple of local girls at the bank asked me if I'm Filipino, so I told them I'm Hawaiian so they leave me alone lol
Staring is common or normal to each different countries i think; What makes Philippines different & extremely unique is that the way people (filipinos) approach on it? You'll feel that once you are with them. Come to the Philippines (foreigners) so you know how warmly filipinos will welcome you like a family.
I think this is also happen in Indonesia and in another country with the tropical area and especially with a very good nature like Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, why? Because i know that if we live in a good place so absolutely we have a warm heart and its very common. I think this is also the reason why so many Indonesian and Filipino always call a stranger with hi sir how are you, where do you from with a very good smile

I mentioned this before, but my cousins are also guilty of staring. They said they’re just amazed and curious on why foreigners choose to travel to the Philippines out of all the other beautiful countries. Some of my cousins mentioned that they want to have a conversation with them, but theyre either not confident in their English, or the foreigners might perceive being approached as “rude”, so my cousins stay at a distance. Also, they’re just curious where the foreigners are from, and want to know more about the country they’re from by having a conversation. Even me as a Filipina get stared at a lot. I’m taller than the average Filipina (I’m 5.8), and I’m paler than the average Filipina despite never using whitening products. Having whiter skin is, unfortunately, the beauty standard here in PH. I used to wish I had a “morena” or darker complexion, but my skin just burns…it never tans 😂
I went to a barn dance party in Red Lion, Pennsylvania on the invitation of my white American friends. That township is close to the Mason-Dixon line. The locals there stared at me. I’m Filipino. I did not get offended. Curiosity is part of human nature.
Local here, we usually stare especially when the foreigner seems lost or wanted to ask questions. Part of hospitality of Filipinos. That’s one, secondly is just curious. This doesn’t apply to foreigners only but even to Filipinos that looks tourist.
Many Filipinos stare because many of us find the appearance of foreigners (especially westerners and even other asians) as attractive- tall nose, white skin, blue eyes, and/or blonde/brown hair. I also get amazed by how tall foreigners are. Hehe. Basically, anything new to our eyes makes us either curious or mesmerized or both.

Foreigners in the Philippines must not take it seriously when Filipinos are staring at them, it’s just out of curiosity. Filipinos are very welcoming to Foreign Visaitors as long as they respect our country and the locals.
Hi, because Filipinos tend to be curious and peculiar when they see foreigners strolling around the Philippines and its areas but in reality Filipino are hospitable and sociable when they meet foreigners around🖒🖒🖒

Great interviews Alex👍👍. As you know I haven't been to the Philippines, but when I was in Turkey I got stared at a Lot. People would look & look away & I know it was my eyes. At a Restaurant one day an old man told me I had the most beautiful Blue eyes he had ever seen. Cheers Alex.☘😀.
I lived in a small town in Northern Germany close to Bremen which is the largest city. People in this town stared at me because I was the only Asian in town. This was way back in 1980's.
Very good topic Alex. I would probably feel the same if I were to visit rural America or even rural Europe where I would stick out being a minority in those regions. I had a classmate who visited Montana and people would constantly give him looks since they have never saw a Hawaiian-Asian person before in their life. I agree with the guy from Arizona, I actually prefer dry heat versus humidity but I don’t prefer hot weather at all despite living in the tropics all my life!
When a foreigner finds himself in a remote area and people start staring at him, they’re probably thinking what’s that foreigner doing here? The more remote the area is, the more prevalent that way of thinking would be.
Filipinos are naturally friendly and curious. They like to help and strike up a conversation. When I was a child ..I was also doing..like "staring" to some foreigners randomly. I don't know why..but it's like automatic response to me. Aside from being curious...you know.
That’s because not many foreigners visit the Philippines (9 million) at least relative to other countries like Thailand that accept 40 million visitors a year.
I am an american and have been living in a remote village, (brgy), on Leyte since late 2019. I have not seen another foreigner here in almost three years. I am sure that i will stare when i see another white face. I have great neighbors that have become my new family.
Filipinos stare at foreigners out of curiosity and they were never taught that it was rude to stare. They will continue to stare even when you catch them staring. In China they will look at you out of curiosity also but if you look back they will look somewhere else. They will not continue staring like in the Philippines. My personal experience.
It's not what anyone thinks, it's the fact. When Filipinos stare at foreigners because they admire the light skinned person and most of the light skinned people exudes good financial status because of their wallet might be full of dollars or thousands of money in it. Besides they are fascinated with their accent but basically just want to know where they came from. Most Filipinos think foreigners came from America no matter what the case maybe, they can not determine the accent of different foreigners as long as white skinned people came from the USA, but most of all when they hear the dialogue in the English language, they want to listen also and want to know what they are talking about.
Very cool interviews Alex I don't get many people staring at me even though I'm not from here because I look like the filipino people in a way and there are no foreigners in my area at all not one single person I've ever seen from another country where I live 🆒🆒👍👍😎😎
Well, it's their looks, because they're different when it comes to physical appearance, same here in US, some of them stare at me either, maybe bec. Of curiosity.
I am a Filipina....please do not misunderstood when Filipino stared at you..I give you a reason...they adore your look, specially if you are tall....in their mind in majority when staring at you was....woooaw he or she is so handsome or beautiful....just simply smile back at them and you will get the most welcoming and hospitality manner....never respond arrogantly look.....If you look perfectly beautiful or handsome outside but if you arrogantly behave...then you are nothing but ugly....
The Philippines being predominantly Roman Catholic is very used to revere statues and images of saints with fair and clear complexion. Since people are used to seeing whites, caucasians in movies etc.- it’s just now that more and more foreigners are coming to the Philippines--people are starting to become more familiar or natural with it. They are proud once they get foreigners as their friends because it makes them feel accepted and also an achievement that they can make friends with foreigners too. 🎉🎉🎉
Hi sir.. i was at your vlog the other day.. of your content why pilipinos stares at forieghners.. waiting for you to watch your next videos!!!!!! I really enjoy your videos!!
Im half filipino living in the philippines i get stared at alot and im also guilty of staring at foreigners..its just that we find them pretty it doesnt matter what race u are..just like 2 weeks ago as we were at the beach this beautiful black girl with a huge afro hair.she looked like a thick model.as she walked across us ,people were staring at her including me and some people were doing a photoshoot and i shouted "get a pic with her(the girl)" and they noticed the girl and they asked nicely if they can have a pic and they did ..it was a whole crowd too.. after that we came across the girl and i was trying hard not to stare and then she said "hi!"to us she was pretty nice... i know for sure she felt like a celebrity
I think the staring is harmless and Filipinos just are curious, and glad to see foreigners enjoying visiting the country. But if you talk to them, you won’t have trouble making friends with Filipinos.
I think it doesn't only apply in the Philippines. I've watched vlogs featuring a westerner visited India/Bangladesh/Pakistan, almost all locals stared at the westerner that if you try to ponder you might think that the visitor has done something terrible in their country 🤣It's because most locals are not used to seeing foreigners in their homeland/place. But if you go to touristy places, locals just treat you like an ordinary citizen.
Actually as a german(foreigner) the philipine is actually much more used to foreigner compare to other countries in asia. Like in japan and China i felt like a celebrity there
That Spanish guy, like most of all of people from Spain, or from Spanish descent, use insanely over exaggerated accent, he was trying SOOOOOO hard to get that sound.
Filipinos tend to speak English like they were Mexicans or other Latinos not as much as "Asian". 30% of words in Filipino languages have Spanish etymology, 350 years of shared history.
Because they want to be like them. 😂 As you can see. They’re following the styles (hair, fashion). And the top 1 why they stare it’s because of their look.
there's a texan dude who's been living iloilo city for a for while a now .... that's what his vlogs are all about & his name is "tito tim" ...... pre,you might reach out to him if you go to iloilo ......
for me,i stared at the foriegner because you guys looks so handsome for me,specially white people.you look clean and i love to see your pointed nose.and the color of your eyes catched my attention.but obcurse filipino are truely friendly.keep safe everyone
Sometimes im curious..or if they need to something or ask,im willing to help specially if i saw someone walking in tge street at night 😂..i try to stop this behavior..
Id like to add my comment on this video though im pretty late i myself as filipina really stare foriegners the first thing is i love the height the color they look handsome to us anyway
It should be no Surprise to Foreigners why Filipinos Stare at YOU. Remember, Philippines have so many Visitors from all over the World, in many different Cultures, Traditions and Race. We are very curious, is this White Person American, Canadian, British, Russian, Australian and Etc. Etc. Etc... this goes from the Dark colored Race, we think, are they African Americans, Nigerians, South Africans and so on and so forth. I will asked you now, when you go into the Malls and you see Asian People, tell me can you immediately tell which Country they came from? Please, do not let it bother you coz, it is what it is, it will always remain this way.
It’s the same thing in the US. If you go to rural places where the majority are Caucasian whites and you walk in at a restaurant you’ll get the same stare down. Sometimes a not so welcoming look. The kind of stare like what are you doing in our town. Get out of here kind of look. If your different and coming into a place you’re not common in. Then expect to get stared. It’s like your a Martian and you’ve touched down on earth for the first time
Foreigners need not get slanted when a filipino "stares" at (you ). It's all but curiousity and at times, appreciation of your looks, color, height;they don't intend to rob you or do you harm 🤣🇵🇭
For me, I know it's mostly curiosity, but it depends on where you are. I live in a "poor" looking area in Manila and I'm also from a high crime area in America so when I see these "poor" looking people eyeballing me they just naturally trigger a defensive mechanism for me and I don't like it. Also what bugs me is the people who stare and when you say something or try to be friendly to them they don't even open their mouths and ignore you. Super weird
maybe its because of the language barrier. Well, if you live in a "poor" looking area, expect that people would not be able to converse well in english, or they might be uneducated
@@pyrokatarina oh definitely. I'm also open to that thought to but I just don't like how these youtube videos gave me a false sense of all Filipinos are friendly when I get ignored when waving hi or even speaking in their language. So I'm a bit more inclusive and just walk with earbuds in and try to keep a straight stare and don't even look at people
Hahaha very funny but true, but ! Not all coz my uncle is American and when my uncle comes out of his room she hides because she got mix emotion between scared and shy and scared to speak coz her English isn’t perfect.😂
We only stare at westeners , asians like korean, japanese and especially chinese we do not stare coz their physical appearance is almost the same with us.
I think the Filipinos are more friendly to foreigners, especially the Caucasians.. A local won't go to the local slum areas alone where they are unfamiliar with, while it's safer for foreigners to do that 😂

Like in japan and China i felt like a celebrity there
Haha here in the Philippines we do not stare that much on East Asians!!!! Because they are common here especially Chinese
That Spanish guy, like most of all of people from Spain, or from Spanish descent, use insanely over exaggerated accent, he was trying SOOOOOO hard to get that sound.
I visit a friend in a small town in Nebraska and people stare at me, maybe out of curiosity.
Yea probably 😏
The Spanish guy, his accent is so Filipino HAHAHAHA
😆😂😆
Hahaah 😁
Filipinos tend to speak English like they were Mexicans or other Latinos not as much as "Asian". 30% of words in Filipino languages have Spanish etymology, 350 years of shared history.
Jose your accent is similar to your Cousins in Central & South America.
I'm going to Iloilo in 10 days. I can't wait to get there.
Awesome! Have a wonderful trip 🥳
@@Livingabroadalex Thank you I'm going to the Philippines for 6 months. 🤗
🥳
Because they want to be like them. 😂 As you can see. They’re following the styles (hair, fashion). And the top 1 why they stare it’s because of their look.
there's a texan dude who's been living iloilo city for a for while a now .... that's what his vlogs are all about & his name is "tito tim" ...... pre,you might reach out to him if you go to iloilo ......
Great idea!
Because you have different looks from us, and the heights, color & more
curiosity ,want to engage conversation or just want to help in case your lost.
Males sense 😊
Good vlog Keep up the good work Thank u

Sometimes im curious..or if they need to something or ask,im willing to help specially if i saw someone walking in tge street at night 😂..i try to stop this behavior..
Id like to add my comment on this video though im pretty late i myself as filipina really stare foriegners the first thing is i love the height the color they look handsome to us anyway
They stare because they admire good looking foreigners
I find it kinda funny lol..Of course we Filipino's always make our eyes useful😂,We can stare who ever we want to stare and Scan them up &down😂..
From iloilo here👍
Hello!!
🌺🌷😊
We filipino like to stare at foreigners because we admire their beauty. Also we filipino like to have a fair skin thats why we envy foreigners lol.
Curiosity maybe but nothing to worry about.
I feel the same way 😊
It should be no Surprise to Foreigners why Filipinos Stare at YOU.
Because we have eyes.
We stare because you look different. Its really just to admire not really to offend you guys 😊✌
✌
Yes, Foreigners are so far different from Filipinos. They have high noses, very nice complexion, pinkish, tall, blonde hair and slang.
We stare if he is handsome,if ugly we also ??????😁
Haha then u guess nobody is safe 🤣
Filipinos really love western look. That’s why they always stare at foreigners cause of handsome/pretty faces also height.
speak for yourself.
That is a good content sir alex. Why filipinos stare to a foreigners? Im waiting for the video.
Glad to hear 😊
It’s the same thing in the US. If you go to rural places where the majority are Caucasian whites and you walk in at a restaurant you’ll get the same stare down. Sometimes a not so welcoming look. The kind of stare like what are you doing in our town. Get out of here kind of look. If your different and coming into a place you’re not common in. Then expect to get stared. It’s like your a Martian and you’ve touched down on earth for the first time
Well it same only if flipino go other country some people stare to filipino
I think it's normal for any other countries to stare at you specially if your color or race is different.
"What are you up to?", that's why they stare. Oh no, the spaniards are coming back😁😁😁
Hahahaah 😅😆
Filipino love’s Foreign celebrities. They think u r Keanu Reeves
🤭
So I'm a bit more inclusive and just walk with earbuds in and try to keep a straight stare and don't even look at people
curious! just smile back at them and say hello!
Great idea!
Hahaha very funny but true, but ! Not all coz my uncle is American and when my uncle comes out of his room she hides because she got mix emotion between scared and shy and scared to speak coz her English isn’t perfect.😂
Curiosity is the reason all our life we see Local and then this foreighners are around so you got the itch to check them out
😊✌
Filipino stare foreigners with smile mean welcoming act.
😊
We only stare at westeners , asians like korean, japanese and especially chinese we do not stare coz their physical appearance is almost the same with us.
We stare because they are different even from philippines if your not from our place we will stare also to filipino
We stare because we find foreigners to be handsome thetefore it is for admiration
That's kind of the problem no?
Every foreigner is handsome?
Because they look different ( that's the only reason), same way when filipino living in Europe they also look at the Filipino 😉
Staring here means trying to get your attention for interaction..
People of limited means are fascinated by people who can afford international travel.
"CURIOSITY"
I think the Filipinos are more friendly to foreigners, especially the Caucasians.. A local won't go to the local slum areas alone where they are unfamiliar with, while it's safer for foreigners to do that 😂
Simple: bring 25 arabic women wearing abayas and let them walk at time square. See how the crowd will react. Curiosity is part of human nature.
USA and Spain our beloved conquerors without them Philippine archipelago does not exist!
