Love that they spoke on more than just "Queen Sugar" (great show), but the fact that Kofi spoke about his family background and the overall disconnect that black people in this country tend to have from our roots & culture was a very important topic to touch on (especially about how SUPER EXPENSIVE it is to go to those parts of the world, traveling from America). I'm 39 now, but I once went to Ghana with my Mother to attend her Grand Mother's funeral when I was 14, and at that time it cost over $7,000 for just she and I (because of her financial limitations, my Mother has not been back since. 3 of her siblings have lived in America for nearly 20yrs and has never been able to afford to go back at all). If you're black and ever wondered why more black people don't visit their "homeland countries" more often, it's because most African American families in this country can't afford the cost. Crazy how our people were brought here against their will, and now most of us can't afford to "Go Back To Africa" even if we wanted to, smh.

Known/interacted with several Africans. Never experienced shade from them. In fact they said when black Americans come to Africa, they are excited to see us and welcome/embrace us with open arms. I've known several people that have made the trip, and I've NEVER heard of anything less than an over-exceptional experience. But to me, any negative reaction to black Americans would be understandable, if I was African. A lot of us don't use our opportunity wisely and we don't stick together like they do. I think they find that baffling. And as a black American, I do too at times. Nothing should hinder blacks from making that trip.

(my opinion isn't just based on my family or small town .. I lived in various cities and also went to college at The University of Louisiana where I interacted with ppl from all over the state ... so I know a poorly impersonated accent when I hear one, lol) . that's my only hangup .. love everything else !

I recently got the chance to travel to the U.S and it made me so aware of how disconnected African Americans are with their African roots. It also showed me that a lot of blacks in America don't like each other that much which hurts cause black people are some of the warmest heartest people in the world. Africa is where we all from. It's amazing how much attention is paid to ignorant African Americans. Most of us are not ignorant. So why are people paying so much attention to the words of people who don't know who they are, would not go to their ancestral Homeland, and would prefer to go to Europe rather than Africa? They are irrelevant. and they don't represent the majority of us. Every single African-American generation has had that Back-to-Africa vibe. My friends and I went to Africa just three years ago. People need to focus more on the conscious people than on the ignorant people. Otherwise, don't be surprised if people assume that most of us are ignorant. You keep publicizing that.
