Hi dear, this the good job, I ask some question, server 2012 Active Directory Replication user, group are working, but all applications are not the same in the 2nd domain, all drives data are not to same, how is it poseable their data are the same both are in the domain, have you any idea.
Great vid Nick, helped me in creating my second DC. One question though, I have two DCs (intranet) DC1 is the root DC, and DC2 is my mirror/secondary DC. Replication is doing well bet the two DCs. But if I turn off DC1 to simulate a disaster incident, DC2 can no longer add a new users. It has an error when I open the AD users and computer console. Is it normal? Or am i missing something. Thanks in advance.
Hello Markus, the first thing that comes into my mind is. Are the AD users and computers console connected to DC02 or DC01. It is possible that it is trying to connect to the primary DC in your domain and when it is down it is not working.
+NLB Solutions thanks for the reply, you are right the ADDS of DC2 in pointed to the DC1. I never touched/or manually configured it. I tried to set up 2 new DCs to compare and check. What might be the cause why it is pointed to DC1? The mirror DC should can stand alone even if the primary is down right?
Markus Sandoval I think it could be related to the fact that your primary DC holds the FSMO roles and more specially the PDC Emulator role. The secondary DC will work (partially) when the FSMO roles are not present. You can check my video on the topic FSMO roles.
+NLB Solutions thats what i thought cuz all is good with replication, even the dhcp fail over is working for both DCs. I am new with server and been struggling with it. And actually your FSMO vid is the first vid I watched before this vid..excellent channel and the vids are very helpful for beginners like me. One last question Nick, so the mirror server is some kind of a back up and a load balancer? Will watch the FSMO and rstore non auth and auth vids from this channel.
Markus Sandoval There is no difference in the two domain controllers (except the FSMO holder). They are both read-write DCs and can pretty much operate the same. Yes, the second DC can be used as a backup DC if something happens to the primary one, but in general there is no difference between both.
Thanks for this video. I have two Domain controllers on different sites. All AD information replicates but the Group Policy does not replicate. What do I do?
hello anyone! Am new to server admin. How do i administer my child domain controller from the parent domain controller. Looking forward to an answer, thanks
