Great to see a survivor from this era. Here in Germany there were very similar bikes from domestic brands like DKW or NSU. They were very popular in the post-war era. And they could be easily repaired and serviced by the owner himself. Very important in those days.
You're completely right. Yamaha YA-1 was made based on DKW RT125. And, YA-1 is very well built and achieved good results in Japanese races. Nowadays, it is treated with great care by enthusiasts😊

The BSA Bantam that I learned to ride on was a lot like this Yamaha. It was a 125 two stroke. The Bantam had a 3 speed gearbox.
The Yamaha YA-1 is very similar to the BSA Bantam you talked about. It's a small difference, but YA-1 is 2 stroke 4 speed gear box.
