I think these filmmakers seem to forget their the actors are not a medium to tell their story. Their story is medium for the actors. No one fell in love with "diary of a wimpy kid". people fell in love with the characters these actors brought to life. The hubris is thinking a stick figure story is enough to carry a franchise.
I remember when the notmyroderick trend started and the internet of course would be relentless toward this guy just because of their unfamiliarity... Don't think I can ever wrap my head around the fact that people were willing to send DEATH THREATS over a fictional character just to satisfy their first world problems. Im glad Charlie found a way out of his depression and I wish him luck in his modeling/youtube ventures.
I kind of get why people didn't like the movie: It wasn't really "Wimpy Kid", none of the characters really matched the originals. But despite this, I remember genuinely enjoying this movie. I remember watching it in theaters with my dad and brother, and we had a blast. We all loved especially how Charlie played Rodrick, we loved his dumb characteristics and it made him really funny. In conclusion, it's not really a diary of a wimpy kid movie, it's more of it's own thing.

He could’ve gone to do amazing work in other films and shows but all because of some unfortunate casting choices, the negative sentiment towards the portrayal of his character, and the film itself not being that good led to the death of his acting career 😢😢😢. I hope he has strength and success in whatever else he pursues because this has already soured his life as a whole and unfortunately ended one of his careers already and all for not being able to properly wear the shoes of his predecessor

Though I've long since quit the game and stopped caring about the fandom, I remember hearing that when Brig released in Overwatch, players were so enraged at how unfun and broken the character was to deal with, that they began legitimately threatening the voice actress, who probably doesn't even play the game. That anger should be directed at those who are actually in charge of the game.
Internet Mob Mentality = ONE BRAIN CELL HIVE MIND COMPLEX It is stupidity at its finest hour ,for people unable to think independently and want to justify their feelings inside a brutal blender. Everyone in this universe should be able to do and enjoy things without people putting their feelings on edge like its executioner's row.
The old Rodrick actor literally acted like Rodrick in his “passing the torch” video 😂
The fact so many people were calling this guy ugly with no one sticking up for him is sad
I'll stick up to him he's gorgeous
I honestly think his hair cut had a lot to do with it. Dude looks nothing like the character from the books. Roderick never had hair like that, and it was clearly a lot taller
I kinda feel bad for Charlie, he did he’s job the best he could, the only people to make fun of is the producers
Tom looks like the type of guy that says "Dat's how digby do it".
You really brought humanity to this story, it’s nice to actually have a person to relate to in this story and seeing the full picture it’s horrible. Thank you for making me aware and others and thank you for plugging his TH-cam 🙏 hope he can get a fresh start
I recently saw his videos, trending and I’ve been watching him and he’s pretty entertaining. I’m glad someone made a video about this.
The first three movies of diary of a wimpy kid are peak, but we don’t talk about long haul around these parts…

8:03 he sounds and looks a lot more like Devon’s Rodrick in this clip for some reason. Maybe it’s because he’s not trying to act too hard.
Imagine being such a failure of a human you harass an actor for not being someone else and the writers giving him a bad script
Tom's the type of guy to make a video about Diary of a Wimpy Kid in 2024.
It’s probably because Charlie wrights TikTok about playing rodrick blew up recently
New Rodrick seems like a cool dude

I will never understand people hating actors for... acting. Especailly going after them irl. The fact he was a kid made it even worse. Vile.
Because it feels good 😊
@@Queen-3gu Not when it nullifies an actors new chances, and gets him death threats.
I started following Charlie about a month ago. Dude is pretty chill and looks more like rodrick now. Crazy what they did to them.
Im glad you provided links to the guy you made the video about.
he looked and acted more like rodrick when he was alone than when he was playing as rodrick 😭
Thats what upsetted me after getting thru the vid. They wrote a TV show charcter, for him to play imo. All he had to do was be given similar material to worl wirh as the OG Rodrick. They dummed him down waaay to much and acted less of a aversge teenager but just a purely dumb one
U can see the hurt in devin bosticks voice he loved his part so much
I remember when the notmyroderick trend started and the internet of course would be relentless toward this guy just because of their unfamiliarity... Don't think I can ever wrap my head around the fact that people were willing to send DEATH THREATS over a fictional character just to satisfy their first world problems. Im glad Charlie found a way out of his depression and I wish him luck in his modeling/youtube ventures.
This is one of the most Zoo Wee Mama moment of all time.
Tom the kinda guy to take a picture then say “that’s a keeper!”
I just saw that guy’s TH-cam channel recently
bro charlie didnt do anything wrong, blame it on the studio.
I feel bad for actors that get bagged on like this. It’s not their fault casting agents didn’t get it right. He’s still getting his bag, but millions of people hating on you has to effect the psyche in some way. Then there’s like the twilight actors, which was more poor writing than a poor performance.
Wrong channel bro, this one is for the brainrot and skibidi not the good videos
"keep punishing greg" even though he was just an actor he couldn't resist saying it😂
Why did people go after the actor when it was the casting directors that chose him? And actors also aren’t responsible for shitty writing/directing
Classic twitter, getting mad at a new actor because an old actor is no longer a teenager.
Jeff Kinney's brother was one of my teachers in middle school. He gave us some insight into some of the inspiration on his books.

They really did him in with the weird haircut and the writing/directing. It just seemed like a completely different character without any of Rodrick's likable traits, tho people took it too far with the death threats
Rodrick has likeable traits?
@@atanaZion OG Rodrick does dumb or asshole-y things but in a charming way, not an annoying and cringeworthy way. Even a villain who actually kills people can be entertaining to watch, depending on how they're presented. The version of Rodrick that this guy had to play just gave off vibes like even Rowley could bully him or something
@@Rey_Palpatine I'd not call his entertaining villanous act "likeable trait", if I had an older brother that acted like Rodrick irl I'd hate him asf, specially for how ungateful he is (look at Rodrick's Rules in special)
Ppl are way too biased when talkig about the Heffley family as a whole, odrick is pretty much a pos, while Susan is a cringe, but well intentioned mom at worst. Not like I hate Rodrick, but he has very few redeemble qualities in the source material (again, so does Greg, but you don't see ppl calling him "the most sane in the family")
I just don’t understand how people hating on the new cast because it’s not the original goes to people calling Charlie ugly and comparing him to Devon, not just acting in but also looks. I won’t lie, I find Devon more attractive than Charlie but that doesn’t mean I will call Charlie straight up ugly.
Charlie literally acts like Rodrick on his YT Channel, I wish the directors just made him act like himself.
Dang I feel bad 💀💀💀 like yes his acting may have not been the best but at the end of the day he was only doing what he felt was asked of him as a actor for the script and unfortunately because of all the memes and just overall negative sentiment towards the film for multiple reasons some not even related to him but unfortunately his being a big reason it unfortunately killed his acting career.
Hi Tom , been a long time fan of the show. Are you circumsized? Keep up the good work man 💪💪
What the hell kind of question is that
Straight to the point lmao
What the actual hell??
Dont hate the actors, the directors are the ones to blame here
Maybe this is my nostalgia speaking because this was the first wimpy kid movie I watched when I was younger, but I never understood why ppl hated the new Rodrick so much. He was funny. Ppl said he was “too dumb” but they always seemed to forget that Rodrick was stupid in the books too (like, really stupid. Especially in the Long Haul book).
Bro has the proportions of an alternate 💀💀💀
Honestly the old cast with a slight change in movie lore like instead of middle school Greg was in high school would have been better then the long haul we got
i hope he's okay now :( ppl bullying him always rubbed me the wrong way
So many child actors and adult actors are given so much HATE for the roles they were made to play! Star Wars is a great example of how people will make an actor's life HELL for being made to act. like omg LEAVE THEM ALONE!
He didn't deserve to receive hate and mockery just for being cast in a movie.
I didn't really watch these growing up or anything. But I would bet money the rodrick thing was more on the director than that actor, and the script as well.
I read all the books growing up. Seen the movies. I love this Rodrick.
This video just feels like an ad for a bad kid movie series.
bruh did you even watch the movies
Broooo I haven't seen that meme at 5:55 in YEARS. 😭
It's still hilarious.
Tom the type of guy to be a wimpy kid in high school
I prefer the OG cast, but the actors did not deserve all of that hate. They got a job, and they took it. The only ones to blame are the people who decided this film would be a good idea.
Can't believe they got alex g to step in
the new rodrick dude being compared to shingo shoji was scarily accurate
My main issue with the movie was it was very different to the book, only real similarity story wise was that there was a road trip, but the reason fod the road trip and what they did for it was completely different
