@@OrthoEvalPal hi there, how do you know its not arthritis? I have pain in the same area but it feels like the bones are hurting. Is this unusual? Hoping it's metatarsagia and not arthritis of course.
Hi! My sister after taking vraylar prescription, developed diabetes..type 2.. it was probably the reason, she now has those claw toes it seems like they are gonna stay forever now.. she’s trying to walk but she has a lot of pain in the area u showed on ur channel..also on the top of her foot it is swollen .. so do u think that those insoles will work? Or what else those pads u showed under the insoles? It is so painful! Please help..
Wow, underneath. I've been checking out the pads that you stick on top. I was wondering why they told me to place the pads where it's not even my problem area. Makes total sense now. Thank you.
Thank you so much for explaining this. I have had this pain 😢 for 2 years, seem doctors and physical therapist, pain pills, expensive shoes...still no relief. I have a large callous on left ball of my foot but the pain is on top of my foot between the 3rd and 4th toes. No pain from the bottom of foot but when I squeeze my foot, so much pain. Plus severe knee arthritis and short left leg as well.
Thanks Joe! I actually have a new orthotic system on the way I'll be doing a review video of. I finally found a semi custom insert that anyone can buy and move the met pad where needed. Stay tuned! Best, Paul
I have been having pain in the ball of my foot below my big toe. After a year of experiencing that pain, I saw a podiatrist. He placed that tape in such a way that it took the pressure off of the metatarsal area below my big toe. Yesterday I went hiking and I sprained my foot. Now I have metatarsalgia below my third toe. It looks like my podiatrist made it more likely for me to develop this new problem. I wish he were to use the padding in the shape shown in this video, that allows the pressure to be taken off of all of the areas. This injury is devastating for me. It will heal within the next 6-8 weeks. This means that I will be completely losing the remainder of the summer (I am writing this on July 24)...
I just watched this. SO helpful! Thank you! I am confused about the exact placement of the pad. It seems it should be lower than the end of the toes. Is that right?
So glad I happened on your page. I have Metatarsalgia and have been dealing with placement of the inexpensive pads and have gotten relief. But wasn't sure if I was placing it in the correct position Apparently I am placing it correctly.
Is it normal for an orthopedist to not know how to put on a metatarsal pad? I asked mine for help putting it on and he put it directly under the heads, which hurt. I eventually moved it further back as per this and other videos and it was so much better. So wondering if that's a sign I need to switch to a different orthopedist.
Thank you so much for the great explanation. I have tried a medical shoes (Brooks brand) and customised insoles which were recommended by my physiotherapist but unfortunately there is no benefit at all and my right foot still hurts unbelievably. Also, I have an appointment for MRI scan and a surgery is an option as I don’t like to get cortisone injection because I need a permanent solution. Therefore, would you recommend to use the staff that you mentioned? Or do you believe that the surgery is the best option in this situation? Thanks 🙏
I went to see chiropodist who advised I had metatarsalgia in pre-subluxation syndrome in both feet. She advised me to buy budin splints and she put a foam piece on the shoe insert similar to your foam piece but looked like a ball. She also prescribed toe stretching exercises and using a tennis ball to relieve arch cramps. It has been several months and things are still pretty painful but not quite as bad. Do you think the splintes are a good idea As they are right underneath the area that hurts. It hurts when I walk depending on the shoes I wear I try to wear the good ones that I bought on her recommendation. Is it usual to have this in both feet? Also my winter boots are a problem I am just wondering what I could buy that would work better than what I have I live in a very snowy part of Canada
There are not a lot of strengthening exercises for this. I stretch the calves a lot with this. th-cam.com/video/XMS0MoRyLHE/w-d-xo.html I also like an orthotic with a met pad. th-cam.com/video/MSYzdTfcczA/w-d-xo.html Best of luck!
Nice video. But what is the material you are using for the pads? I have purchased every shoe out there as well as at least five brands of inserts. I also had custom ones made from a podiatrist. The custom ones were a joke and at $500 a bad joke. My foot was worse with them. Finally I developed hammer toe on my second toe and had surgery to fix it. It worked. Now my other foot has developed metatarsalgia but not a hammer toe. Stretching is the key to fixing it long term. Not just the calf, but from the tip of the toes up to your glutes. Shoes with enough room in the toe box to allow the toes to spread is second and a decent insert with ample padding helps. I have tried the over the counter pads on the top of inserts…no help. But if I can find the material you used I will certainly make custom drops. Thanks
Thank you for this, very useful. What are the forecasts for a 54-year-old? Only an improvement or possibly a return to the previous ones, ie. recovery?
I have custom orthotics that were built for Morton's, recently went to the Orthotic foot specialist and he diagnosed me with Metartarsalgia, he said the built up part for the falling off of the met heads is not high enough, should I do as you recommended in the video until I can get my new orthotics made. Been having pain for one and a half years now and am desperate for relief. Also how long does it take to get better from this problem. I thought your video was very well done.
A retail store is selling 3 pair of orthotics for a person with arch pain. They fit them with the shell extending to the sulcus NOT proximal to the MET heads. I always fit mine proximal to the MET heads. Any experience with the retail product fitting with your patients?
Super video! I was just diagnosed with Morton's Neuroma and the chiro said it is a result of my high arches and how that affects my gate. Have you had success treating MN with just a foot pad or is a whole orthotic with high arch support needed?
Hello. Just watched you video and have better placed the pad, thank you. I wanted to ask? Can I put one in the other foot orthotic? Even tho it’s ok. As I have both right and left foot pads in the packet.
There is hope: It can go away. The most recent literature suggests resting, wearing padded shoes, strengthening and stretching the big toe and calf muscle. The cause is unknown, but people with metatarsalgia tend to have bunions or hammer toes or both. Flat feet too. When the big toe isn't strong enough or can't do its job (as is the case with bunions or narrow shoes), weight is distributed inefficiently through the smaller metatarsal (MTP) joints. This happens faster during high-impact activities like running, jumping, and dancing. It's difficult to stretch or strengthen the calf because of the pain. If conservative treatments don't work, surgery can treat the bunion, hammer toes, and the metatarsalgia directly.
I have pain in 1st MTP joint majorly in left foot. I have got custom insoles but I feel pain in knee and sometimes just below and just above it after putting it on, not sure why that happens?
Hi Paul. My podiatrist diagnosed me w stress fracture of top of metatarsal on soft area leading to 4th and 5th toes right foot. This happened after PT had me leg presses for first time and next morning i had a cramp there which then turned into pain leading to wearing a boot. What kind of padding or orthotic and shoe do you recommend. My left feels irritated just from bearing the support my right foot needs. Im wearing Saucony integrity go walk since January. Thank you Paul for any help. Im grateful for your compasdion to help us.
Hi Cynthia, If you have worn a walker boot for a while and now into a sneaker, I would recommend anything with a rocker bottom to it that doesn't fold too easily.

Thanks for the video! My podiatrist said I have metatarsalgia and suggested pads as well as metatarsal show inserts, which I've been wearing. I've been wearing them for about 5 months but my foot still hurts the next day after even taking a slow walk. Any other suggestions? Do I just need to get orthotics for all my shoes and wear them the rest of my life?

I have intense foot pain in the ball of my foot all the way across. I work for the largest snack food provider. I've had mris and been to 2 podiatrists. And nobody has been able to help. I had custom Orthodics and they didn't help. The podiatrist told me he would prefer them to be softer so I got a 70 dollar pair of inserts off Amazon m100s and they were a micro better. All I feel I have left to do is get dermal or fat injections wich I feel will only deform my feet due to pressure of walking. I know I need a job where I'm not on my feet as much but what would you add to the comments in the mean time I am a soul provider for my family? Any info would be greatly apreciated

This is my first day eith that pain, i have a foot massager, will it help or make it worse? Because i was off my feet with plantar fasciitis for weeks untill i used the foot massager & it cured it in two days
Thanks for the video. I have had this problem for decades , and I just tried and insert with meta pad built in and I could not even walk with it in my shoes. It was too painful...
If the pad was built into it, it may just be in the wrong spot for you. I always like to trial the met pad in different spots to find the right area. Not on the sore spot but just behind it.
Can l ask what your job title/ position is. I only know of podiatrists and in Australia they don’t do what your doing. Then we have surgeons/ specialists. So what person am l looking for as l can barely walk.
I have just got custom made orthotics and I am experiencing more pain on the top of each foot. Should I continue until the pain goes away or should I have them adjusted? I am two weeks in. The feet hurt whether I have them in or not
Thank you. Well done. Can custom orthotic work in a high top basketball shoe, playing competitively. Will it stay in the correct place during lateral defensive moves or offensive push-offs? Or are my ball playing days over?
I haven't been able to walk on my left foot for 3 months. Underneath my 5 toes it is swollen and they hurt when I put pressure on them and when I try and pull my toes back for excercises, it is extremely painful. Have you heard of a condition like this? I thought it was Morton's Neuroma but the pain and swelling is mainly on the first 3 toes especially the big toe. Thank you.
My pain is at the base of my large toe and the large ball connected to it. I keep being told nothings wrong with it. Arch supports made it worse. What do you advise?
I will occasionally try a lateral wedge at the heel to drive the weight more toward the big toe. I might also use a wide metatarsal pad to offload the 5th. Remember calf stretching on a board is super important
#1. Stretch the calf well. # Rocker bottom shoes can help with this. Couple links to help. amzn.to/39fEmRV (HOKA sneaker) th-cam.com/video/XMS0MoRyLHE/w-d-xo.html (Stretch video)
I have bone marrow edema in my second and third metatarsal... consistently for over a year now. I think I'll try something like this unless you have another suggestion/advice for it! so far all the health appointments I have been to have been pretty unhelpful as far as treatment (diagnosis was helpful though!).
I saw your video on Tread labs insoles. My problem is just the ball of my foot. My arches are so high it's the contact point and of coarse the heel. I have to wait for new shoes to break in so the ball of my foot can fit into the deep well it creates during break in period.
Will try it. Thanks. How long before I can start running again. I run 100 miles a month and did not get any relief after 3 weeks off. Will start using an orthotic tomorrow and go back to swimming to maintain cv fitness. Thanks

I have been to so many types of doctors, from chiropractors to orthopedic, over the years. None have ever been able to source my pain. Finally, I bought some hard-soled Birks and the tarsal arch support did the trick!!! Problem is..... I can't find boots for the fieldwork I do that support this. Do you recommend trying this trick for workboots, or is there a product with the tarsal pad already built in? Thanks so much for this!

Try wide shoes. Red wing insoles that you bake in the oven to mold helps. Roll a ball on your arch and strtch your lower back.

I avoid it. Causes a lot of trauma to the metatarsals. If needing to do them though, do it on an Airex pad.

This is my first day eith that pain, i have a foot massager, will it help or make it worse?
Because i was off my feet with plantar fasciitis for weeks untill i used the foot massager & it cured it in two days
Thank you this helps alot
Can metatarsalgia cause referred pain into the Achilles and calf?
I was wondering that. My hamstring started hurting at the same time as the metatarsalgia pain 😞
@@OrthoEvalPal You may be right, thanks for the reply...
Thank you so much. This was really helpful, I will definitely try these inserts.
Can l ask what your job title/ position is. I only know of podiatrists and in Australia they don’t do what your doing. Then we have surgeons/ specialists. So what person am l looking for as l can barely walk.
I have mortons neuroma in my feet. I dont want surgery. What can I fo with my pain? I can’t be barefoot and also I’ve lost my arch!!
I have just got custom made orthotics and I am experiencing more pain on the top of each foot. Should I continue until the pain goes away or should I have them adjusted? I am two weeks in.
The feet hurt whether I have them in or not
what is the difference between sesamoiditis and metatarsalgia?
Thank you. Well done. Can custom orthotic work in a high top basketball shoe, playing competitively. Will it stay in the correct place during lateral defensive moves or offensive push-offs? Or are my ball playing days over?
Many athletes use custom orthotics. You should not have a problem with that
I haven't been able to walk on my left foot for 3 months. Thank you.
Did you relive the pain with anything? I also have this problem
Thank you.
My pain is at the base of my large toe and the large ball connected to it. I keep being told nothings wrong with it. Arch supports made it worse. What do you advise?
Had for 10 years. I had a 6 pack at 30 and was an athlete, now i dont want to walk across the living room for the tv remote as i know it will hurt
Also can you advise on shoes to wear am in the dark regarding how to treat this bilateral neuroma
I like the Hoka th-cam.com/video/tbh_aeK2_1U/w-d-xo.html
Combined with Tread Labs orthotics with metatarsal pads: bit.ly/3P3o6Z4
So where are the links to the custom orthotics/inserts?

Where do you get those from
Do you think I can put these pads under Superfeet insoles?
What about the 5th what can be done? Thanks
I will occasionally try a lateral wedge at the heel to drive the weight more toward the big toe. I might also use a wide metatarsal pad to offload the 5th. Remember calf stretching on a board is super important
Thanks this helps me
My discomfort is under my big toe. What suggestions could you give me?
How would an individual know how to do that.
Dude super dope yup thanks man perfect
What type of foam is this, if I want to make my own?
Neoprene.
I have hallux limitus. My big toe feels stiff. I am wearing a cheaper orthotic. Any suggestions. My calf is really tight as well. Thanks
#1. Stretch the calf well. # Rocker bottom shoes can help with this. Couple links to help.

Shoes have not worked for me. Do the shots hurt
Would this work with insoles? I no longer use orthodics i realized they made my feet weaker.
How can I get my heel down after surgery
I've developed nerve damage in the ball of the foot and under my 2nd toe, the pads and ordoctics don't seem to work! Any ideas??
I have bone marrow edema in my second and third metatarsal... consistently for over a year now. I think I'll try something like this unless you have another suggestion/advice for it! so far all the health appointments I have been to have been pretty unhelpful as far as treatment (diagnosis was helpful though!).
What kind of pad are you using
I saw your video on Tread labs insoles.
Thanks
HI Matt, varies with everyone, offload the metatarsals and stretch the calves. This is what I use with all my patients ezslant.com
Athletes love this for the portability and adjustability.
Hi Doc I got turf toe during soccer and it hurts to put pressure on metatarsal bone/part. It's been 6 weeks will using pads help relief pain and allow me to play again without pain? Thanks
Update?
Matatarsalgia/mortons neuroma pain started Thurs. morning, urgent care fri headed to dream trip to Greece on aug 16....on steroids day 3..... please help me so I can continue to my bucket list
The steroid will help but you ultimately may need an orthotic. In the meantime, a super cushy insole may help
HI Zoan, I would seek the help of an orthotist and get a custom orthotic made.
Hi, would you have any help for nerve damage in the second toe? I've gone to physiotherapy, podiatrist (orthotics) etc. with no luck. Any suggestions?
Thanks Des
PS The nerve pain is in the same spot on the second toe on each foot.
Hard to tell without looking at it.
Can I actually get over having metatarsalgia or is it something I’m stuck with for the rest of my life
Q
Yep I feel the pain
I’m going three worse pain honestly
About to play a footy game with this 😅
There is hope: It can go away.
I bought metatarsal pads , hope so it would helpful
