Messy next week as Tasman Sea low tries to move in

- A powerful high pressure zone will continue to affect NZ’s weather well through next week, but NZ is a bit in limbo between the exiting high and a storm forming in the Tasman Sea, closer to Australia. The low is not yet forecast to hit NZ but it may still bring us wind and rain next week, in part due to the nearby high.
The high - which broke NZ’s 135 previous high air pressure record this week - will remain to our east for all of next week and may complicate the timing of rain, and where rain might fall.
Meanwhile Australia’s skifields have a number of days of natural snow coming - but NZ looks drier and milder for now.
We have a detailed forecast covering rain, snow, frosts, wind and temperatures - and a 7 day rainfall map for NZ. - บันเทิง
Thanks Phil and crew. Good to see that things are progressing much as you forecast earlier in the week. You're good at this forecasting thing!
Love the detailed forecasts you bring each day. Hope you and the team have a good weekend.

Cheers WeatherWatchTV
Oh my goodness -8, we would hibernate here in Queensland😅
Hey Phil, since I've been watching your forecasts, the weather has been really great. You're a great presenter. Keep up the good work. Don't change! The weather is doing enough of that 😅
Thank you very much, very kind! :) Phil
Aussie got the snow last winter as well
Woo hoo a new record...!!
In the last 5 years or so, I have seen these snow bearing systems come into the Australian SE and dump good amounts of snow on the ski fields, while we miss out completely. This is what happens when we get the blocking highs to the east of the country!
I have a new fire being installed next Thursday and Friday and we also have the interior walls of the house being insulated so hope that it does not get too wet. My barometer recorded 1035 here in New Plymouth. Today a cold and nasty SW wind blowing and these winds make the home (built 1953) cold and I burn so much wood ( 2 fires) going. Be glad when the inbuilt fire gets done. Thanks.
Good luck with the new fireplace!
it's a classic case of it's to good to be true then it usually is. looks like the end of the month is going to be custard. but we still need more rain - who would have thought that a diary farmer would be asking for rain in July when the calving season is in full swing.
Yeah it's certainly a weird set up - I feel like a broken record talking about people needing rain, and now some dairy farmers are wanting it so spring doesn't kick off too dry.
WeatherWatch is great!!
Thanks very much!! :)
Cool bro cool..seen this all happening before
Interesting to see that our climate is the same now as it was 135 years ago
Mate, can you ditch the use of so many colours?? Yellow, white, purple...for those wind maps...just use a warm colour for high pressure, & a cold colour for low pressure
Hi mate, you may not like our videos as we're explaining what is making the weather - it's not just a forecast. That's what your local forecast is for - the temps and rainfall etc. Our videos are for those who want to understand WHY your local forecast is the way it is. Cheers, Phil
any big snow events coming ?

thank Youhooo want to keep it Mate 🫠
Phil I'm just wondering if any high pressure has ever gotten to 1050 hp?
And you all have a great weekend

Google says “ 1083.8 mb (32.01 in. Hg) in Agata, Siberia on December 31, 1968”
Yes, if you look at places like Antarctica you often see highs in their 1050s to 1070s. And as the other comment says, 1083 in Siberia. :) NZ area they usually peak in the 1040s. I think 1048 or 1049 are the highest ones Ive seen near NZ. Phil.
Should I get out my snow flurries ski equipment out for Torrington NSW 2371 on Tuesday the 16th of July?
You can try :)
Next update 15/7/24
Global electric circuit. Energy in through high's out through lows.
Not great weather for Gary next week 🐐 lucky he has a new house to stay dry in
Awesome to hear about Gary's new house!
High pressure in Australia means rain and lots of it! Which is completely opposite to nature. As for thredbo snow, What can I say Australia manipulates its weather.
Hang on a minute,... you quoted a niwa statistic... far out
The one time Niwa actually gave a normal statistic without hyping the heck out of it in the media for their commercial gain. So it made for a good nugget of data to use, although it also clearly showed NZ up for having no true historical records as even Niwa couldn't 100% confirm a record was broken due to their commercialisation of pubic records.
why dont you talk about the cloud seeding or geo in otago or are you a patsy for niwa
1) Everyone who believes in cloud seeding is aggressive to us unless we agree with them.
2) It's not done in NZ.
3) Everyone who believes in this stuff is like believing in religion. Nothing I say will convince you you to think differently.
4) We dislike Niwa management.
Clouds just shit on us hard, now the suns out. Farked up weather here on the coast.
Gone are the days when a high meant clear skies. Nower days high, low and its dog shit.
