    Disclaimer: I do not own the copyright to the 2000 film "Werckmeister Harmonies" by Bela Tarr. This is merely a fan-created work that attempts to pay tribute to this film.
    A trailer I put together for Bela Tarr's Werckmeister Harmonies after I learned there was no original trailer for the film (other than a short, slightly dull Cannes promo). Enjoy!

    One of the most beautiful, intelligent, moving, surreal films ever made. Lars Rudolph is excellent as Janos. If people don't understand the film well that's because they've been fed on a diet of sound and fury signifying nothing and films which don't encourage thought. This film is about power, control, political corruption, destruction of nature, unbalanced minds and vulnerable people, revolutions and a fear of the outsider. A total pleasure to watch, a masterpiece of the highest order. Thank You Bela Tarr.

With movies like Werckmeister Harmonies and The Turin Horse you opened a new width in movies for me....If there would be one person in the world I could spend one day with it would be him, his state of mind seems to be so depressing but still beautiful and deep! sorry for my bad english!

    Werckmeister Harmonies is one of the masterpieces of 21th century, the best film by Tarr, so beautifully shot with some of the best sequence shots ever... The influence of Tarkovsky is clear in the form, not so much in the point he wants to make, they have different beliefs. Ceirtanly who loved this movie go see Tarkovsky films, especially The Mirror and Stalker. They contain this kind of film pace and contemplation of life, human nature.

    From a mystical touch to revolutionary sociopolitical implications. Chaos and violence are manifested through the encounter between man and a creature of immensity (the whale) Allowing a friction that crumbles the social order and also understanding displacements as a way to appease such a radical situation. Exquisite film for all lovers of contemplation and metaphors.

      an incident? what do you mean? I read it more as a symbol

    • @jen4394
      @jen4394 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From my point of view, the whole movie is a symbolism, though its purposes are many. The whale is a bait that draws people around something else: the prince. He is a demagogue, a person who urges and convinces people to do certain things. In this case, the citizens experience a violent outburst. Their goal is to destroy the old in order to build something new, under the illusion of change. Of course in the end the prince is gone, the whale-bait is rotten, ugly and uncovered and destruction didn't bring change but pain. And of course power to a very small number of people. This film is also a poetic representation of Hungary and the years after the Soviet downfall. Overall, it is a symbolism about society, life, individuals, forces of power and the lost of innocence. One of the most magical films I ever watched.

    • @Gambit1138
      @Gambit1138  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is a process common to a ton of European films, from Dario Argento to Sergio Leone. Stars will be hired, speak in their own languages, and they’ll all be dubbed afterwards. Tarr also did this with The Man From London. Sometimes it’s because a name actor will want to work with a director, which can also help the movie be financed.

      It has horror elements, such as selling your soul for gain. One such moment was on Bravos 100 scariest movie moments. The gangsters in the movies are just ruthless, though I just felt it was a great thriller. Danny Boyle of 28 Days Later wrote and directed it. He said he felt that the more an artist learns how to make movies the less interesting they can become and he worries that he may be becoming that since, "Shallow Grave" is his personal favorite of his work. It's my favorite of his as well.
