    One of the best ASFs in the world by far. It was at one point considered by the Republic of Singapore to be purchased as their new fighter aircraft to replace their retired A4SU Super Skyhawks, however the lack of an Air-to-Ground capability back then was a major drawback and resulted instead with the RSAF purchasing American F-15 Strike Eagles instead. Good to see that the ground attack capability has been added, particularly so now that the RAF Tornados are either all retired or close to retiring from service. Brimstone and Meteor look very good too, and paired with the Typhoon this is easily a plane that can hold the mantle of "Guardian Of The Sky" for the RAF and the UK.

Not as expensive as F-35 but on other hand not as aging plane as for example Super Hornet. And overall from how the plane looks and how agile it is, its absolutely my favorite :D

      Why would Britain want to develop the Typhoon for the Royal Navy?
      At the moment the Royal Navy has two aircraft carriers that can only operate aircraft with vertical take off and landing abilities, like the F35. The only other airplanes compatible with the Royal Navy's carriers are in museums, such as the Harrier or that thing from the USSR.
      When the Typhoon was being developed the Royal Navy had a very old carrier which was on it's way out. I know they used the Harrier on that, but I don't know if it actually had a catapult for anything else.
      There is no point in the Royal Navy operating an aircraft unless it has something to land on or to take from.

    I am sure the technology built into the F 35 and its variants is top of line today and maybe for a few years but as time goes on time will tell if opponents of the West will learn to decipher stealth and make this plane average or not. When the F 117 Nighthawk was considered invisible and state of the art until it got shot down in 1999 over Yugoslavia by a ground missile. Just like Beyond Visual Range weapons which in theory are stand off weapons fire and forget and paint another kill on your plane go for a barbecue and tell stories many modern fighters have very effective defense against missiles to the point that you better make them count when firing or you might become a target as planes close distance quickly. Having grown up in England in a RAF household and other countries where my father was an Air Traffic Controller until the 80's I learned that you never how good your toys are until you actually use them in a real fight and only then can you mark your scorecard. I worked in the Canadian arctic for about 10 years during the cold war at many DEWLINE Radar Sites which were designed to detect bombers and cruise missiles and almost all of our military bosses were ex USAF fighter pilots who were Colonels. Our last boss flew F 4's, F 106's and F 15's before getting a desk job and then transferring to NORAD. The biggest issue I see with the F 35 is that it is not a tested platform in the sense of longterm cost effectiveness, reliability and mission capability. As far as Typhoon goes the only thing I wish is that they could of made it carrier capable like the French did with the Rafale. I hope the F 35 turns out to be a great plane for the tax payer and military because militaries tend to relegate equipment from the front line to lower tier roles when they underperform so they don't have to admit failure.

      Also in terms of nuclear deterrance that strategic bombers used to play big role in, I would bet that the end of the Cold War as well as the fact you can deliver nuclear weapons obvioisly more reliably and quickly to their targets via missiles, that really made strategic bombers kind of thing of the past. I mean you could in fact equip some multirole fighters with smaller nuclear missiles from what I have understood, so that too would eliminate the the need for strategic bombers.
      Also think of USA, even they have not developed new strategic bombers in long while now B52's have been in use since 50s, B-1 Lancer doesnt have nuclear capability anymore and only some 20 B2-bombers were ever built. Currently only USA, Russia and China have strategic bombers in their arsenal and NONE new strategic bombers have been built to replace the old ones since the end of the Cold War. So you could say the collapse of Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact really put hold on any further development and manufacturing or even use of strategic bombers.

    • @dumdumbinks274
      @dumdumbinks274 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In dogfights an F-35A would be quite a challenge for a Typhoon. They have different strengths and weaknesses as far as the airframes are concerned. To put it simply, the F-35A has just as much acceleration and better AoA tolerance, meaning it is a better low-speed dogfighter. The Typhoon being a canard-delta design is a better high-speed dogfighter, but is much more draggy at low altitudes or speeds.
      But as far as air to air combat is concerned the Typhoon is much more of a missile hauler, while the F-35 is designed to use it's stealth to get into an optimal position, ideally as close as possible without alerting the enemy.
      Also, the F-35A and F-35B are both operational, just not within the RAF or RN. I haven't heard any claims of them being fully operational though, only that they have passed IOC. Full operational capability comes later.

    If the US had watched from 3.40 to 4.21, they would have realised why stealth is smoke and mirrors for a fighter.
    Sure, for a bomber or reconnaissance aircraft, it's great. They don't need to detect targets so they can turn their radar off. A fighter which uses radar (like the F22) gives its position away as soon as it searches for a target, and radar can be jammed. The Typhoon can turn its radar off and hunt with PIRATE, which is undetectable and unjammable. Given that Typhoon also has the Meteor missile, far superior to the AMRAAM, I think the F22 has been relegated to the 2nd best air superiority fighter.
    Hopefully Typhoon and F22 fighters will never go head to head in real combat (though with the idiot in the White House, nothing's impossible), but I know which plane I'd rather be in. And it's not the F22.

      There wouldn't be a war between the UK and the US why would there be considering trump is half British.
      Plus we all know it would go nuclear if that impossible situation ever occured which it never would.

      @@para7843 Don't both countries have Nuclear weapons though? Unless the Brits are ever moronic enough to let Labour or the Democrats.

    The Typhoon is not the best Jet in the World! The Gripen is lot better as the Rafale Too, if not even more better than the Gripen! When compared to the Typhoon! The Typhoon should cost lot less or way less for sure as what you get for your money! The Price tack of Each Jet Fighter, the Typhoon and Rafale should be the other way around, that how much plane you get with that money, that Rafale should be more expensive (per plane) than the Typhoon!
    But which one is more expensive, the Tranche 3 Typhoon costing 90 million pounds (per plane) Or the Rafale C with or without the B, costing 80 million US' Dollars / Euros ( per plane), or even more (with all the weapons)! French weapons, missiles at least are expensive, if not very expensive, as some one has said!?!? And know this! The French Rafale is 5 TH GEN!, yes!, 5 TH GEN Fighter (at its' best 5,5 / 5.5 TH GEN), where the Typhoon might get!?, might get close to 5 TH GEN, or The 5 TH GEN!
    Gripen E/F is The 5 TH GEN or close to it, IF, if not OVER, over THE 5 TH GEN! But! Gripen IS NOT A REAL, is not a real = TRUE, true 5 TH GEN FIGHTER, 5 th gen Fighter, as The RAFALE, the Rafale is!

      It is not easy to say which is the best jet in the world. As for the costs, you are aware that those are estimates and in no way are the end price that a costumer pays?
      The Rafale is not 5th gen, the Typhoon isn't either. And nope, the AASM series is very expensive.

    • @Markus117d
      @Markus117d 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rafael is not a 5th gen, Fifth gen aircraft are defined by stealth rather than air to air dog fighting capability's, At most it's a 4+ or 4.5 Gen depending on how you prefer to write it, Same as the Typhoon 👍

      Is that why the Typhoon has outsold it by some 3 to 1 and continues to gain new orders while the French Air Force isn't ordering any new ones?
      Anyway Dassault are now in bed with Airbus to build a 6th Gen fighter (ROFL) so the Germans will be paying the French, Germans will order 150 to gain workshare and then cancel 100 and the French will demand a naval version and lead management meaning it will take 20 years, be 8 times over budget and cost 4 times what a BAE / SAAB fighter will cost. By which time the EU will have collapsed and Germany will have to export with a high value Dmark rather than freeload of the Euro funded by poor Southern Europe countries.
      Good luck with all that .....

      Well if we're going to debate Europe, let's talk about which European country contributes the most towards Europe's defence and training and has the highest NATO budget (soon to be increasing).
      Which European nation is the gateway of trade for both the US and Japan?
      Which side of Brexit has claimed the other will be missed?
