Watched your video, By respecting your inputs I would also like to add few more important points as a wrist watch collector and if you carefully review my comments will understand further
Rolex produce different models of watches using different materials and please be aware not all Rolex model considered in same league
Now coming to point of Mechanical, please be aware not all mechanical watches are expensive but those mechanical watches which produce IN-HOUSE Movements are expensive compared to rest
So Rolex produce IN-HOUSE movements which means every component is produced in Rolex own factory in Switzerland with high skilled Labour and nothing is outsourced
That’s same for Omega, PP, VC & AP
There are only handful of watchmakers who does in-house and all their prices are same or higher than Rolex
Other expensive mechanical watches specially famous within Indian community such as Tag, Longines, Rado, breitling, etc are having mechanical movement too, but they don’t do all their models in-house but outsourced ETA or SELLITA movement
Second reason is Marketing by spending millions of dollars on marketing campaign
Third reason is Non Availability for steel sports model due to low production ( as sir explained ) &. Articulate demand with long waiting list . You will not be able to purchase any Rolex sports steel models direct from store without a waiting period of years & long associate with brand. Due to this Rolex don’t loose value and in some cases even appreciate value
Please be aware this is not case with gold models which are most cases ready available or authorized distributor can arrange with within shorter period as profit is high on such models
Forth reason is Quality of product . Rolex is a pure workhouse and it won’t loose time not more than -2 to +2 seconds
Fifth Reason is Rolex is most valuable brand in this world and definitely that demands a premium
So on a nutshell that’s sums up why Rolex watches are expensive
But that said there high expense watches from other brands too but it doesn’t mean all their those watches are demanding within wrist watch collectors
In terms of history, sophistication, functions Omega or Zeneth watches are equal or better than Rolex
In terms of history you can’t go wrong with PP, AP OR VC
Eventually everything comes to individual preference, budget & availability of desired models

The 316L Stainless steel is far less scratch resistant than the 904L because it has a much higher Rockwell hardness. The 316L has less nickel in it and is far brighter in appearance and tends to stay that way. ... Rolex uses 904L primarily for marketing purposes - to differentiate their product.

Most of the premium luxury products, share same common high pricing structure.quality raw material, making,low volume manufacturing,and finally they select customer whom they should sell.
You are partly correct. The reason why Rolex is costly is because they artificially manipulate their prices, through supply and demand, in the way that DeBeers have done for diamonds. There are no shortage of Rolex watches, they purposefully limit production to create an artificial demand. This allows them to charge exorbitant prices. Rolex dealers also manipulate sales by requiring potential buyers to purchase some of the more undesirable models in order to later get the rarer models. Most Rolex dealers don't have any watches in stock and will ask that you be added to their waiting list. Most of the Rolex sales in the US are from secondary unauthorized dealers at charges over retail prices.

Rolex is a well known company due to some clever marketing techniques they’ve adopted during the past few decades and because of its resale value. But, if we are talking about craftsmanship, artistic value and quality, they are no way near other luxury brands available, especially the so called ‘Holy Trinity of Watches’ AP, VC and PP. I think Omega watches are equally good when in comparison with pricy Rolex watches. The only let down is that, Omega watches are not doing great in the resale market.
I agree, but all the major luxury watches have lost secondary sales value this year except for Cartier. Good time to buy a preowned luxury watch this year.
