  • Tent camping at Schoolcraft state park near Grand Rapids, Minnesota on the summer solstice. Greated by thousands of mosquitoes, this quiet state park is on the early parts of the Mississippi River and is a beautiful forest area. #nature #camping #summer

You may have invented a new dessert or the beginnings of a new cereal at thw very least 😂 #innovation Looking forward to a longer trip myself here soon. Excited to see where your travels take us! Ive always thought you needed a bigger tent lol. Standing room is underrated! Good show brother!

I'm more than ready for a bigger tent, and it's on the way. Hope your longer trip goes well and you get a break from the horrible weather you've been having this year, seems like every day there are storm chasers in central Iowa. Thanks, and be safe!

Those were actually regular-sized s'mores. Little known fact, Stinkleberry's a giant and stuff. Thanks for the info about the Thermacell, gonna get one myself, skeets really are crazy this year.

Yeah, they are horrible. I almost never even put on bug spray, but this year it's a must. Thanks!

Love all the animal sounds. I have to say that state park is our least favorite. The bugs were so awful we could hardly stand it. We are Minnesotans so are use to the bugs but that place...never again. Thanks, you made the place look beautiful.

The bugs were about as bad as it gets, maybe the fall is the time to go. Thank you so much!

Now that I'm in my 50's sleeping on the ground even with an inflatable pad no longer works for me. I use a cot now and it is fantastic. With my arthritis it makes getting in and out of bed easier as well. Sometimes I use the pad with the cot and sometimes I don't bother. It doesn't make a massive difference. The first cot I bought at Wal-Mart as an emergency because I could not get comfortable on a week-long camping trip. It was heavy (17 lbs) and took up more room than I would like when stowed, but was tall so I could sit on it. There are some excellent camping cots out now that are light (under 6 lbs) and compact when folded which suits my preference for hike/cart-in camping.

It might be the type of cot I have, but the one I use from time to time is pretty rough on my back. I upgraded my mattress for my next outing and I'll see how that goes. Thanks!

I think so too. It's hard to see, but there were 2 of them with young ones, so beautiful. Thanks so much!

Your s'mores look awesome! Thanks for showing a little gem of a state park. If you purchase a high roof tent you won't regret it. I made the switch a few years ago and it made camping so much more comfortable; and I second MFitz12 on using a cot. Having a tent with a screened vestibule sounds great. I look forward to your next adventure. Cheers!

If you are going to drive to every camping spot I have a Coleman Instat Tent that I like. You are not going to carry it on your back anywhere but, it is 9X10 and 6 foot high. It takes 60 seconds to set up.

Thanks, but I have a new tent on order and on the way for my next trip, if it gets here on time. Everyone is telling me Im going to enjoy a larger tent so much more, so Im really excited. 60 seconds though, wow that would be nice. Thanks so much!

Awesome!!! This is one of the smaller state parks and evidently it does not seem too popular based on bookings and availabilities; proly due to the non-electric. The red squirrels are pretty awesome and I am stoked to know the Barred Owl resides there! I scouted here on 5/4/24 and ironically Site#19 came up as number one on my list, looking to head back there this year and camp and also scout Land o' Lakes state forest, Bowstring state forest and McCarthy Beach State Park. Always good to see you man, you make my journeys to these state parks even more rewarding and memorable!!!

McCarthy was actually my second choice for this trip! Owls seem so rare lately, so I was really happy to have one around, although it scared the the living heck out of me the first time it hooted. Next week I'm headed for a week long trip to some of the least known parks in Minnesota, ones I have never been to, should be fun. Thanks so much. P.S.- you are now the official animal namer of the channel. Most of the time I have no idea what I'm seeing, and you know!
