Each weekday morning, "CBS Mornings” co-hosts Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson bring you the latest breaking news, smart conversation and in-depth feature reporting. "CBS Mornings" airs weekdays at 7 a.m. on CBS and stream it at 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

During parts of this interview with Sammy Ramsey, it definitely seems as though they don't understand how devastating this Latern Fly can actually be to the ecosystem and our produce farmers.
It reminds me of the movie Don't Look Up when the news anchors aren't taking them seriously about the impending doom. Now, these bugs are no asteroid, but, they can cause tons of damage. Those trees and plants we love in parks and in our yards can be killed. The price of a lot of produce can go up from the bugs destroying most of the crops and leaving little to sell.

OMG! My home is under attack. Here in PA, it just seems that the more I smash, the more comes. My family and I have been “choosing violence” for 2 years now. Spray has not helped, they are so annoying. It’s stopping me from sitting on my front porch some days and sometimes we just choose to enter through garage. I’m am over them, smh!

I know.. this is the first spring / summer I've physically been able to get out in the yard. Let me tell you, I'm flabbergasted! The Nymphs we're everywhere because I have such overgrowth. I'm getting the landscapers to come cut and dig up the rest of my seasonal plants and any trees, that I can afford. Gotta do my part or they'll just be back next spring. 🤷‍♀️

I live in PA as well and have seen these insects all over my property. It is impossible to smash them in mass. There has to be another way to get rid of them without harming people, pets, and vegetation.

@@tracylee4451 The very first thing that I can see for PA. D. E. R. doing is cutting down all of the tree of heaven. If ya know that tree, just look at how many there are just in Pa., (even on vacant land/property). Then, look at how infested they are with the SLF. 😳 IT'S CRAZY CREEPY!
They can't figure it out yet though.

I just saw one in my yard, thought it was a butterfly or type of moth at first. When I went outside it had its wings open, it didn't fly away it jumped towards my fence then I couldn't find it anymore. Glad I googled and kind regards from brooklyn, n.y. thanks for this video.

The life expectancy is only one year, and since we didn't really notice them too much last year they wildly spread laying their eggs last year and now I'm finding all of the dead bug bodies littered all over the ground in New Jersey and Manhattan.

The 2nd top import from China next to covid. Where are the environmentalists? Imports from China accounts for the most invasive species and viruses. I live in a shipping state. We have lost so many species of trees to bugs imported from other countries.

They are an invasive species. They don’t belong here. If we could send them home, we wouldn’t have to eliminate them. Without natural predators here, there is nothing to check their population size. They will take resources from other native insects, and they will destroy native plants. This will only exacerbate the damage from climate change. So many trees have already died in fires and droughts.
