That’s the trade off between the 2. X-plane has the best flight modeling system in the background aside from maybe a professional version of prepar3d. MSFS has a bigger community with more mods and aircraft with better graphics, however it doesnt simulate flying it simulates a box of air around the plane that moves with it. Also the weather engine is terrible in MSFS but xplane is only marginally better.
Hello! Nice video. Really love it. Just one question: Do you have tested others 'Map type override' ? Idk but BI (bing) for me looks verry blurry, and my textures are on Maximum.
Generally I've had it set to Firefly, which for my 4GB limited RTX 3050 Ti card, it works well enough. Usually if going to a new airport I'll spawn there first so it can at least get most of the ortho tiles downloaded. I've noticed sometimes it will give up trying to download a few random tiles until the next time you're there. I've sim flown a lot around the West side of the US, parts of Canada, Switzerland, Italy, France, UK, and the AutoOrtho cache is still under 40GB with the Firefly option.
Also, I have noticed the AutoOrtho tile resolution is directly tied to whatever the texture slider inside the X-Plane Graphic Settings menu is set at. So for my limited 4GB of VRAM it's usually set on medium, in the middle. I assume that's so X-Plane can fully manage the amount of VRAM you have. It will always try to show full LOD textures on your aircraft, but sometimes it changes LOD on the fly with textures on ground objects like static planes, cars, buildings, etc. to somewhat blurry. Sometimes it will choose to shove it down to low, but that's usually also when flying over metros with lots of buildings, and can't see the ortho textures that much underneath all the buildings anyways. It does pretty good with managing my amount of VRAM, but really, 8-12GB of VRAM would be way better for X-Plane 12. We'll see if Jensen can manage to deliver an equally low wattage RTX 5050/60 class GPU for notebooks before I decide on an upgrade. LOL
Thank you for the Tutorial even though I wont use it because it takes many frames, but it works and I would reccoment to chance the titel to "Enhancing Your X-Plane 11/12 Experience: Installing Auto Ortho Scenery Tutorial" because it Works with X Plane 11 on my Pc and its and good Tutorial.
As much as I love XPlane and have grown with it, I had to go back to MSFS. It was a good run. Over a decade with XPlane
