    This video took quite a while to record and edit, because I kept getting names wrong (ie. 95 South & 69 Boyz) as well as misspeaking when talking about each song. Did you catch any mixups? When do you first remember hearing the phrase "Whoo(?)! There It Is!"?

    1993 I was 14, my mama hated rap, but she loved 3 songs, Digital Underground Humpty Dance, Cypress Hill Insane in the brain, and whoomp there it is... Anytime those songs came on the radio in the car she would crank it up. She was 49 at the time. She passed away May 31st 2018. R.I.P Mama I miss you

    FINALLY! Somebody did the side by side! I was in college when BOTH of these songs played in heavy rotation on radio and with videos! 📻🎼📺🎶 I liked both versions but preferred 95 South's song better. Thank you! Wow, a time when twerking wasn't a word but the action was simply called "booty shaking"! LOL 😆

    So I'm not crazy. I remember arguing with my older brother for years about there being 2 versions of this song. I remember one said "Where the booty at?" & one didn't. He was trying to say that one was the clean version.

    I remember hearing both songs on the radio and always being confused as to how 2 songs , by 2 different groups, could be so similar. I also remember having a cassingle, which I believe was the Tag Team version.

    I remember in 1993 hearing 95 South 'Whoot! There it Is'. Went to Target to get the cassette single. Didn't realize that I grabbed the Tag Team Whoomp! There It Is instead. Had no clue at the time that they were 2 different songs. I didn't even hear of the Tag Team song until I bought the single.

  • @sonofabeach71
    @sonofabeach71 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Tag Team stole the idea.
    Tag Team was squeeky clean with generic rapping while 95 South's Version was more street and much better imo. 95 South blew tag team away live on Arsenio. 95 South had the better album and longer career too.

    I have the same memory as you and others. I had both on cassette, definitely had the Tag Team maxi-cassette not sure if the other was a maxi but def had 'em on tape.. The 95 South was "first" but it didn't quite crossover the same way whereas Tag Team's track was a perfect party banger. The Kano sample was genius and it's a "more fun" song than the 95 South which was a little bit more street than street party. You also knew immediately when both songs came on because they had the shout-out thing at the start. One thing I also remember is that there was some discussion up north (at least in North Jersey/NYC) about exactly what "Whoomp there it is meant". I was in middle school at the time, but a lot of us heard through the grapevine that it was something you said if you pantsed a girl in a bikini at Freaknic. Back then (and pre-Internet and before No Limit and Cash Money and even OutKast being household names), a lot of Southern and Midwest hip-hop culture was a mystery up here. It was like yeah there's 2 Live Crew in Miami and the Geto Boys in Houston, but everything else (to me at least) in the South was sorta underground. But I digress, the Tag Team version is a 10/10 for me..I'll give the 95 South one a solid 8.5/10.

    While I liked both versions, I preferred 95 South’s version because I’ve always been a fan of “Miami booty bass” sound. I remember going to 18 and under clubs in West Palm Beach in the late 80’s and getting to see some pretty big names. It was a great time in music.

There It Is" and were so confused because i always thought the song said "Whoomp!" Come to find out, they did! • @knight6
      @knight6 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tag Team won the Arsenio Hall show based on the audience reaction. Back then when I was 11 when I watched it, I wanted 95 South to win that battle. After watching both on TH-cam years, I think that Tag Team won due to them hyping up the crowd more and their showmanship on stage whereas 95 South did great on their performance but not as much hyping up the crowd. Perhaps the Tag Team’s baseline also gave them a slight edge to counter the lyrics of 95 South.

    Grew up in Florida and when these tracks dropped I was in high school... 95 South, 69 Boys and Tag Team... DJ Magic Mike... these were the jams. Rocked them in my car with a pair of 12” subs and a big amp. For me... I never liked “Whoomp there it is!” by Tag Team. It was always a rip off of 95 South’s “Whoot there it is!” which I still think is a much better song. Thanks for this video and shining a light on some of this history.
