I don’t think for TA, GA or Tutor they would consider software experience.
If u r TA for software engineering course it might help but it doesn’t work that way.
But for ur job search it might be helpful

If you get admit you can. But there are few more things which you should consider before choosing UC Merced.

Yah lot of universities offer hybrid courses.
You can attend classes online but you might have to do presentations, exams offline.

If you are actively enrolled you can only work for 20hrs even if it is summer.
But you can always check with international office at your university.

Just asked one of my friends who is studying in university of Dayton:
If u take one subject in summer you can work 35hrs
If you take 2 subjects you can only work for 20hrs
