Not to mention the abuse coming from all sides; coworkers, customers, and management. And how you can't even fight back. I've learned that you don't need to do something bad to get you in trouble. You just need someone to perceive you doing something bad and make the right amount of complaints. So, essentially, if the customers don't like you, you WILL be fired eventually. So, not only do you need an education for an entry level job, but a truck load of charisma as well. But then you're dealing with harassment as well. There's just no point in getting a job.

@@deconstructingnarcissism3062 I remember I had a coworker who was 16. The customers loved her, but many of us knew she was a lesbian. Older customers would come in and either flirt with her or try and set her up. It was creepy. She wasn't allowed to tell people she didn't date men, or call out grown men for hitting on a minor. She was miserable, but forced to endure it.
Unlike with her, customers would pretty much hate me. They'd try to talk about very personal things or ask stupid questions, then get mad when I'd be honest. Like, they'd ask why the registers were so small. I'd tell them it was because they're meant for customers with small orders. Then they'd get mad and act like I just insulted them. The fair wage debate is a symptom of something else. Imo, minimum wage shouldnt be super high due to it being essentially the same as "minimum productivity required to get a job" to employers. This prices out the young and handicapped, it leads to employers asking for more requirements which affects those 2 groups the most.
However, wages overall havent kept up with inflation. This is the real issue, as this is where cost of living expenses will hit people the most. Prices for things like a home go up so much while wages only slowly rise. Imagine being in a situation where you save as much money as possible but the cost of the houses around you go up faster than you can save. This isnt an uncommon situation at this point, due to wage stagnation, which makes people feel like they arent getting paid enough to have the future they want. Not even talking about a lavish future, but a middle class future.
This is the type of stuff that makes people talk about how we're moving towards neo-feudalism. However, the medieval surf probably had it better in terms of job security. The cost of labor is purposefully kept as low as possible in order for execs to reap the rewards. Productivity generally goes up every year, but wages have not kept up with the productivity growth.

Despite bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars in billable work, I still only made about 25% more than our group admin (a 49 y/o women with no degree). After about 5 years I realized how raw of a deal, how out leveraged I was. How, in my mind, I was a professional: I had degrees, certifications, a "professional job" with an office and willingness to work hard. Yet, I couldn't afford to buy furniture, eat well, service college debt, or date respectable women. As long as it wasn’t management, high paying, government, or information security sensitive jobs they didn’t do that much to verify my claims. Unfortunately those jobs demanding education and experience can be done by someone with a high school diploma with no experience. And the pay is a joke.
They demand loyalty yet it’s so easy to get fired and replaced. Cost of everything has gone sky high. Pay hasn’t risen to match that. There’s no point in working, or at least working very hard, just enough to pay your monthly expenses. If I didn’t have my older brother with his house for me to pay rent for a tiny bedroom there, I would be screwed.

@@TheLegitAlpha Yes and no. What you are saying is essentially correct in my opinion just not deep/extensive enough. I like the idea I just dont like that when people say this that they only say the CEO. Because the wealthy argue back that splitting up the ceo pay between all the employees would not be much of a increase for all the employees. Which of course is a dishonest argument because that would also include giving a piece of his/her pay to other overpaid executives. So what should be done is docking executives and some upper management pay. This is because if the overpaid CEO that sucks all the wages to the top is making 30 or 40 million a year there is no chance his circle of executives immediately below him are making reasonable salaries.
On a slightly separate note I have no problem with executives and bosses/managers making more than the average production/floor worker. Although the amount of difference is insane. No one does $30 million worth of work while other people only make food stamp wages.

Around here almost all jobs pay around $16 an hour give or take a dollar. IF you want $20+ you need a degree or enough experience and willingness to deal with the stress to have a management role. But no rent is under $1000 a month except for subsidized housing you can't qualify for on $16 an hour full time. So after rent, utilities, food, household expenses, and your phone you have nothing left. The real livable wage around here if you work 40 hours a week and don't have a bunch of student debt to pay back is like $25 an hour. At $10-$15 to that if you have the student debt. No one pays that unless you have a STEM degree AND 5-10 years experience and even then the number of those jobs is very limited. So most people have to have work at least 50-60 hours a week to make it either in a couple hourly jobs or with an hourly job and a side hustle. Or they work 40 hours a week and have to just be ok with living pay check to pay check and no left over money for entertainment or putting into a 401K or savings and no vising/dental/even in some cases health insurnce. And that's if you don't have credit card debt. It is no wonder some just give up entirely.

Totally agree man. A $15/hr job is for teenagers still in high school. Those kind of jobs are fine if you have a primary income where you're getting much higher pay and perhaps 35 hours a week and want another 15 hours to help supplement, while perhaps having different scenery.
Otherwise you may want to look into getting a CDL B or A, where there are a ton of positions that they're having a tough time filling and pay livable wages you can get a little ahead on depending on the job.

Thanks for the update. In Canada the woke & liberal government decided to open up a huge loophole on their immigration system and bring in hundreds of thousands of Temp Foreign students from overpopulated countries like India & China, making sure these ppl never to return after graduation and allowing them to apply for Cdn work permit, than later Permanent residency. They get a kickback from the colleges since foreign students pay triple the tuition as locals, the same time libs also get a kickback from corporations because these temp students now with work permit in hand, unable go on welfare, so they have to jump on every and any job avail out there, so you see them in Walmart, DQ, KFC, Pizza H and other places employing them for minimum wage, part time, or on call, temp, short contract, etc. Later these folks now permanent residents will get hired to do the jobs you are applying for, only for half the money. This is how the Government makes sure you remain poor and corporations maximize their profits, while resolving a large demographic issue, NA currently faces.

In the 50's and early 60's profit margines were about 10-11% on average.
    Now they're about 14-15%.
In the 50's Unions was 33% the population. Now its only now its only just over 6%.
In the 50s it was common to find a good job right after highschool where you could put in 30yrs. Now to get an entry level job you realistically need at least a college degree and 5yrs experience. Only entry level jobs that dont are fast food at retail.
50's all the way to even the early 2000's it was possible for a man to support his family by himself. Now both parents need to work just to rent while both kids are raised by questionable daycares.
In the 50s divorce rates were about 66% or less. Now they're 70% or higher.
In the 50s 9-5 existed. Now we still call it 9-5 but its really 8-5 where many of us are expected to donate a free 30mins of labor to the company.....or we're unpaid for 30min lunch....when many of us would rather just not have a half hour lunch and instead go in at 9am instead of 8am. Its just a scam to keep us at work longer but still pay us the same.
Yes, racisim and sexisim was a thing back then. But undoubtedly there was a lot of good things fot american workers. Better wages, everything was more affordable, better work life balance, and marriage stability (the glue of society). I think we all want what the 50s provided but want it for everyone of all races and sexes.

I understand not very many folks are in my position, but we owe it to the people coming after us to force large companies to compensate fairly. I work for a DSP, which delivers for Amazon. My company overstaffs to make sure we have enough people to cover routes, because dropped routes = paying Amazon for it since they then have to Flex them out (basically have gig workers deliver them) and pay the people to deliver them.
The job starts at $19 an hour, $3 up from when I started (I now make $21 an hour) where I live. However, it's still barely enough for people to live on, especially for someone like me who lives alone. It needs to be $25 an hour starting, because delivery is a dangerous job.
They've been hiring like crazy because people keep getting fired over dumb stuff (safety issues). Nothing required, just be 21, have a valid driver's license, and pass a drug test. These jobs requiring all this crap for entry-level positions are ridiculous.

      @MD-gk4uh ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahahahahahaha😂
They been saying this for 50 years. It seams like they just implement enough of the "mashine work" to keep people in check.
"If you don't want to do it for cheap we will replace you with mashine and you got nothing at all" scare has worked since the "be lucky you have a job in time and age where robots are becoming more and more used" is a sales pitch every manager has used in every line of manual labour work I ever did. But when you look at the budget reality of any bussnes it becomes clear why that is not gonna happen until robots can make other robots without ANY human involvement - a.k.a self replicating. But what will the rich elite do to us when they TRULY dont have any use for us and we are nothong but "freeloders"? Did you know there is a increasing "consensus" amongst the powerful elite that world population should be brought back to 400 milion or so? Just saying. We had Hitler, Stalin, Mau and others who had no problem killing 100's of millions. They wont nees our consensus when they can have bilions robots do the soldiers dirty work either.
My place has us building custom stuff out of wood and no CNC machines or nothing.
We jokingly call ourself "modern day Amish"
Why? Cause we are cheaper then the mashine. They would have to pay up front for the mashines and other equipment and pay more for the "operator" there after which companies don't like doing.
This is why they dont buy printers for example. They pay per page printed and the cost is more palatable from one pay period to the next.
Also, even thought I do high skill wood working they don't give me any official title so they pay like unskilled labor. I as individual can go someplace else that will do the same since no one will hire me despite my skills since I don't have a peace of paper saying so.
But that doesn't change overall picture since my company would just do this to someone else.
I used to think positive of education systems till I realised why they truly exist -making sure companies have labour they need. They bring the cost up so you always have large segments of "uneducated" people for cheap labour, even tho most of us (in my company) do SKILLED labour that takes 6-12 months to learn, not 6-12 hours, and 2nywars to truly be "on your own". If more people go to school they increase the fee till they cant and all is good again.
An individual can do better for themself but not us as society. When we all say "to hell with it" and there is labour shortage the government starts hiking the rate till the labour becomes cheap again.
There is no free market or capitalism notion of "supply and demand" here. Its all rigged in favour of the rich elite. When product demand is high they have no reservation raising prices but when labour damand is high they (republican and democrats hand in hand play their voters people like a flute when it comes to this) will make living condition a hell and invite MILLIONS of "migrants" over to "fix the problem" and ultimately underline any power the working class has.

They don’t get back to you because hundreds of people are submitting an application for the same job. A lot of larger companies have software that pre-reads resumes and cover letters, and filters out applicants based on content (or lack there of). The best way you can get in to a company is having the right connection… it’s not always what you know, but who you know. Creating a network is important for almost any occupation. Getting rejected by an employer, and not getting call backs isn’t fun but you gotta get over it and move on.
People don’t want to work because there isn’t as much to work up to as there was before the pandemic. Entry level wages around me have skyrocketed, McDonald’s workers around me are making $18/hour now, before the pandemic they were making about half that. On the flip side, mid-level worker wages have either stayed the same or slightly eroded to the point where they are barely making more than someone asking if you want fries or a drink with the burger. Benefits have eroded too, so there is even less reason to stay loyal to a company. Add in the insane level of inflation, and it’s not difficult to understand why the middle class feels crushed.

I remember in the 90s when ppl went to college they took low-level base jobs just to pay bills and some on books, because college was a secure spot to get 27 to 32 dollars an hour, i know this is fact due to how my sister moved that way back then. 17 - 18 bucks for a college grad is a disgrace to society as a whole, its NOT even worth it to go to College for anything anymore unless your trying to be a high level doctor or lawyer. smh damn

Ignore their wish list. If they meet you and like you, they'll hire you. The big three that really require an education are medicine, law, and engineering. You could even become an architect without a college degree if you start early enough (10-12 years working at a firm and passing the ARE test.) I became a computer aided designer, and I didn't even have my GED at the time. I took one week's worth of classes at a small training center, got a pirated copy of AutoCAD, and drew some stuff following along to some TH-cam videos. Emailed those plus a well worded resume and started taking interviews. College grads ask for a lot of money, so I undercut them by a little and I was in like Flynn my friends!

So many of America's problems would disappear if working Americans were just paid a decent wage for a change. They are suffering from a half-century of stagnant and declining pay due to voodoo trickle-down Reaganomics which we were promised would lift all boats. It didn't.
They are long overdue for a very substantive raise.
My understanding is that if pegged to productivity (because “hard work is rewarded”) the minimum wage should be well over $20, and if it went up at the same rate as Wall Street bonuses (hardly work?) it would be over $40. Can you imagine what it would be if it went up at the same rate as CEO compensation? Over 1000%! From BusinessInsider: “The typical full-time salary in America would be $102,000 if wages had kept up with growth - but the economy has failed 90% of workers...”

  • @jasongates-
    @jasongates- ปีที่แล้ว +2

When I saw the title, I had to pull up the video to hear what you had to say. Cause, you're right about there being so many job openings, and then we never hear back. Not even to tell us that they received our application. As of this coming summer, I will have been an adult for 23 years, and for that ENTIRE time, I've been applying to no avail. Not even an interview. Not even at the simplest companies for the simplest jobs. TWENTY THREE YEARS. It's like I'm just starting kindergarten, when I've been an adult for so long. There were people who were born the day I became an adult, and THEY all got hired when they were still minors, and everything, but employers won't even interview ME. And, some even got on me for applying. Like I did something wrong by merely applying. When we're supposed to apply, and THEY said "Now hiring."
In fact, I've seen positions that were open for over two years, yet they say they can't find anyone to hire. Surely they've had at least one thousand applicants in two years. But they can find NO ONE to hire?! Not even ONE person fits their requirements? And then, the one person who DOES fit their requirements, even THAT person is not hired. But, they're looking for the applicant to fit their requirements. They're NOT looking for someone to fit their requirements. They're looking for Sally Sue to walk in. Hey, employers! Sally Sue is NEVER going to walk in!
Obviously, they want to go out of business. Which, guess what. The employer, himself, will wind up in the unemployment line, like that. But, they would much rather that happen, than to actually go ahead and at least give the person the 90 day probation period, and then re-visit the question to see if they still think the person is not a fit for their company, at the end of the 90 days. That would be good for both parties, if they did that. The company, because they would at least still have the job get done, and at the same time, the applicant, because he would be able to have some sort of income, and also have at least something to put on his resume to show that he's willing to work. That's how it would be good for both sides, if they did that.
And, like you were saying, they're only willing to pay minimum wage, and so many jobs only offer part time. Even with a masters degree and 20 years experience, and two promotions. Still, minimum wage, part time. That's if the person even gets hired. And, so many people aren't even being interviewed to be able to get hired. Then everyone everywhere, including those very same employers, and even including other unemployed people, say the applicant literally never applied for a job in his life, or that he did something wrong during the application process, to make the employer say "No." There is something wrong with either the system, or the thought process of those in charge / the witnesses. Or both.
And don't forget, what's worse, is that employers no longer offer pensions, like they did in the 1980s. It's either 401K, or you get nothing / Social Security as your pension.
I'm glad you made this video. I was waiting for someone to make a video to point out the problem, because it needs to be pointed out to those who are part of what's happening, on both sides. The employer's side AND the applicant's side needed to hear it. So, thank you for making this video.

He is correct- has anyone tried to fill out an on line employment application for Target??? There is a personality test of over a 100 ( it seems) questions before you even get to the real employment application info. Many people give up on it before they get through the personality test ( or so I’ve been told). He is also correct that wages are too low and inflation too high. If you make 20$ an hour- it’s like making 10$ an hour because since inflation over the last 3-4 years your money does not go as far. Think about all this before you go vote.

I just retired after working 30+ years. I can tell you these last few years were the last straw. Employers at one time at least showed they appreciated you and if you were a solid contributor, they rewarded you accordingly. Companies are now laying people off not because they are struggling financially but because they missed their short-term quarterly targets or the greedy af executives want to pad their compensation package because they are not paid for running a company well. They are paid according to how the stock price moves, not whether the company is run like a total shit show or their products and services are total garbage.

I haven't worked since about a year before the pandemic. I worked in a salvage yard for 10 years before that. Loved my job. My boss passed away, then I quit. I was only making $700 a week.
I have enough passive income to where I don't need to work. My home is also inherited and paid for. Both my parents passed away and left me taken care of.
I'm thinking of leaving America and going to a South American country and opening a business. Maybe a small general goods store.
I'm divorced with a daughter. My ex won't let me see her despite having court ordered visitations. They don't enforce them.
I want to get married and have a family and American women just seem like a lost cause. I tried and it backfired. Theres a whole movement I discovered where American men are going to other countries to find decent normal women to start families and now I want to do it. Find a strict Catholic Latina and open a business and start a family.

Employers/Businesses don't want to pay you...even when you get the job. The employees do the work of the business, but the owners/management get all of the benefits of your contributions. Better to do something on your own in the long run. Otherwise, you will be nothing more than a slayve.

One of the explanations that makes more sense to me, and one I have experienced a number of times in my career, is employers deliberately slow walking a hire to squeeze additional work out of employees who are covering. They will do that until employees start resigning then blame low level management. Always follow the money.

You Americans have to start getting together and form co-ops. In Finley Ohio on July 10, 2021 the owner of Heavenly Pizza decided to give the days profits to the employees instead of keeping for himself to honor employee appreciation day. His employees all made $78 an hour for that day. They would be making that kind of wage everyday if Heavenly Pizza was a worker co-op. The bosses at your workplace are not required.

The reason businesses are requiring a bachelor masters or an associates degree and a few years experience in because 41 million millennials have one of the three and all of them are applying for the same 12 jobs millennials love the most across the country and businesses need to thin that out enough to find what they are looking for
