My defence is currently mid-priced heavy, but it can change before the start of the season. I have Mckercher, Short, Farrell, Mills, Perryman and Coleman. It's high risk high reward.
From what I've heard from match sims is that Mckercher won't play wing, and will play mid-halfback. Short is set to take the primary roll off half-back at richmond and likewise for Farrell. Mills seems to be a safe pick if he plays midfield. Perryman is training with the midfield and went to Collingwood to be a midfielder, and with Mitchell and Daicos having injuries, he could slot in and get CBA's. Coleman is pretty cheap and will probably be there for opening round.
The structure I've got currently means I don't have any rookies in defence, which I like because I don't love any of the options. I have Travaglia and Allan on the bench, with El-Hawli in my utility, but with Travaglia seemingly playing wing, he might not be the best on-field option.
I am also considering a defence of: Sheezel, Sinclair, Short, Mills, Coleman and Travaglia/Allan.

Mid pricers are a very risky game to play to that extreme volume as 2-3 will fail and be must trades.
McKercher is training on ball and at half back but we know that these position are very fluid as there needs to be 36 players out there and half the time teams don't have enough to fill each position so some have "Fake" position changes.
Mills is all role based as you said
Agree with the Perryman point and is my swingman for Mills
The problem with your structure is best 18 and how you will probably have many 80-90 scorers but not the big 120 scorers. Take for instance Sinclair Sheezel and El-Hawli costing 39k more than Short Mills and Farrell but if we look at best 18 keeping 2 scores and dropping 1 score: Sinclair (102) Sheezel (112) El- Hawli (60) beats out most likely Short (95) Mills (95) and Farrell (90) because 214 beats out 190 etc and thats with the potential upside of Short and Mills included wereas Sinclair and Sheezel i have at their current price point (I believe). Thats 24 points *3 plus the fact that Mills/Perryman has to sit out thats turns that into potentially 100 points gained for those with guns compared to too many midpricers
