Hubby and I are headed out in February for my birthday. I love fishing Big Stone. People always talk about the big perch, which are great, but forget about the huge bluegill. Congrats on the baby!

Standing on the first ice on lake Stella in front of the old creamery, meeker co. Minnesota 20+ people standing in the open jigging walleyes and. passing around a fifth of Peppermint Schnapps -- a depth finder is an ounce lead weight . Would not trade an inch of that for to-days electronics. We all knew who our neighbors were and helped them plow their snow. But what a bunch of secretive fishermen, hide their lures every time they pulled them up.

@@CNCoutdoors 17"? Think you're a little optimistic; fished green bay all my life and have yet to catch a perch over 16". I'd suggest putting those big bluegills back and doing a repro? Why? A 10"on Stone lake would not be that rare if people did that as it has outstanding fertility. This kind of selective harvest on bluegills yields the best return because the larger bluegill take the best spawning sties and genetics can play a key role. Unlike e.g., with Green Bay perch where avg. life span is about 6 yrs and keeping largest fish has less impact because they have less time to reproduce and to offer future re-catch opportunities. Good luck.
