I really hate the Ozempic weight loss trend, my mother has diabetes and keeps getting her prescription flagged because it's being abused. I've had to explain to pharmacists multiple times and even had to have her doctor yell at them because they weren't giving her the life saving medicine she needs, all thanks to assumptions and not bothering to look at her other prescriptions.

If they have diabetes they could just take insulin. My friend takes it for diabetes and they fill it everytime for him it's just harder to find at a pharmacy. I'm type 1 diabetic (not the sort Ozempic is prescribed for) - during the pandemic there were (non diabetic) fitness influencers who had discovered CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) and were using it as a diet fad/hack to "hold themselves accountable" - this led to shortages worldwide for people who actually need it to monitor our glucose levels which keeps us alive.

      @tabitha8707 ปีที่แล้ว +139

yes! so glad he discussed this. and honestly it’s real cruel how a lot of content creators are making fun of people having loose skin. If someone is extremely overweight and goes on a diet, they’re almost guaranteed to get loose skin. If someone else loses weight in an unhealthy way extremely fast, they may also get loose skin. But in that case I’d say most of those people are dealing with body dysmorphia and disordered eating. Neither is a reason to make fun of them. You can criticize the drug without claiming everyone who takes it for weight lost and under eats is now ugly🤦🏻‍♀️

    • @krisdiane
      @krisdiane ปีที่แล้ว +113

@@vukemi No. The skin is like a rubber band that's been stretched for a long time, and when you take the pressure off it's still stretched out. There are treatments that can tighten the skin a bit (only things done in a doctor's office unfortunately) but it won't snap back on its own.
The face is just the part that everyone sees - the whole body does this. Some people have more elasticity than others and they can lose weight without looking deflated (some will look worse than most too) but without treatment the skin will remain stretched - and that will only get worse with age.

I'm a primary care doctor. The number of patients who come to me asking for Ozempic that aren't even overweight is maddening. And some other side effects not mentioned here are severe abdominal cramps, watery diarrhea and sometimes gastritis. I'm the states insurance won't pay unless you meet specific criteria, and patients come back angry at the doctors, sometimes hostile and verbally threatening, because we can't force the insurance companies to pay for it and it's very expensive. More than one patient has demanded I lie in their chart so insurance will post this drug. So I despise this trend.

Generic is easier to get therefore they have more shortages, if you cannot get your medication you could try brand name it’s just harder to get the prior authorization to go through with insurance. You have to call and bug your doctors, pharmacist and your insurance provider. Like I’m talking a few days a week until it goes through. However if you are still having issues make sure you call your pharmacy a week or two before you get your prescription filled, pharmacies are only allowed to order a certain amount of drugs or controlled substances. My point is I wonder why speed worked on my body and my weight kept down although I kept eating but oddly enough long before drugs entered the picture I was always the fat girl my smallest weight 150pounds and I was only able to maintain that 150pounds with extreme minimal eating, one week dedicated to liquids only and walking along but I tried the whole going to a gym which the gym along with correct healthy eating still wasn't enough for me to loose weight I hated..
Eventually drugs entered the picture I enjoyed the small figure but finally got sober and knew soberity meant going back to being the fat girl and now that I am enjoying myself and not restricting my eating habits to the points of starvation I am up to 210pounds at 5'2" and I am just this close to giving up and going to a dietician for weight loss prescription pills because I feel like that is going to be the only thing to work and guess I will have to go back restricting my food intake even of that means going back to the days of having horrible headaches & nasua but hey if it means weight just a little less I suppose the headaches nasua and feeling like dog shit will be worth it...

@Mercedes Velasquez Speed and other drugs like it are stimulants. That’s why you, and others using these types of drugs, experience weight loss while using them. Even though you were still eating the speed was burning through those calories. A lot of weight loss pills, especially ones from years ago, are basically legal speed. It’s why they often have side effects like nervousness, jitters, shakes, racing thoughts, etc.
Congratulations on getting clean. It’s not an easy feat.
Please don’t return to those unhealthy ways of eating. Doing those types of things are very unhealthy and actually can cause even more problems plus it’s just no way to live. If you can see a dietician and a doctor that would be great. Not everyone can lose weight simply by eating healthy and exercising. There are so many factors surrounding weight but working with your doctor and a dietician can help you get some answers and make a healthy plan to meet your individual needs.

I'm a type 2 diabetic and it took me almost a year to get my insurance to approve Ozempic because they wanted to make sure I wasn't just using it for weight loss. That was another year of 3-5 insulin shots per day, checking my glucose levels constantly and still having insane highs and lows with my glucose levels. After I finally got approved my glucose levels have evened out at normal levels and I've lost 40 lbs. I'm completely off insulin shots and just take pills and the weekly Ozempic. I just wish it didn't take so long because vain people ruined it for the people who need it for medical reasons. Love your videos James! I started using ozempic last fall because I was pre diabetic. I started at .5 mg and lost about 25 lbs in 3 months. I didn't really have side effects then. But the .5 mg wasn't working as well in month 4. I found myself eating through it. So my doctor increased it to 1 mg. And that's when I noticed the side effects. I was projectile vomiting, nauseated all the time, and had a major increase in the number of migraines I was getting. So I just stopped taking it. I wanted to start taking it again last February but they only were making the 2 mg dose, and had discontinued the lower dose. I didn't even bother trying that dose because I knew it would be too strong. But good news, my last blood work shows I am no longer pre diabetic!

Literally just existing becomes painful. You have to have some sort of condition to be able to accept living so poorly. And oftentimes that's a mental condition i.e. an eating disorder.

      - As someone who was bedridden/housebound for nearly the last decade, due to severe bariatric complications - all due to lifelong undiagnosed underlying hormonal issues..
Where now I have had most of my stomach removed, and ended up with kidney and liver issues, as result - including nephrogenic systemic fibrosis; which, is fibrosis of the skin and osteoarthritis from exposure to too much barium contrast, used in CT scans - and am now unable to absorb vitamins and minerals effectively, because the only way to save the part of the stomach re did was to do a gastric bypass, which, I didn’t initially want..
And turns out I was morbidly obese due to severe hormonal issues, as well as 6 stress disorders - one of which, being Cushing’s Syndrome.
All my symptoms started around the age of 6.
Doc’s always told me to lose weight, in order to fix my knee/ankle pain.
No one took me seriously, when I couldn’t play PE in school - and saw me as fat and lazy; even though I was in pain CONSTANTLY.
I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Though, being it never progressed and I didn’t require medication - a rheumatologist said there was no way (however, NOW I have the markers, result of later mentioned intervention).
Turns out, it was from my adrenals attacking my body.
The pain didn’t go away until last year - which, I was walking with a cane, at this point - until I cut out corn and corn-derivatives.
Which, also, reduced inflammation in my brain - as I now have emotional and physical feelings/sensations I never had, prior (autistic).
However, though some of my weight was result of poor eating, because I didn’t know better (before I had unlimited access to the internet; as I am from a small, rural town) - most of it was from unbalanced hormones.
I mean, what 6year old has a hormonal belly, and its normal?
Patients AND doctors need to come to understand fat distribution tells A LOT about the underlying reasons of their obesity.
All I have to say is - way to go OP, for speaking up for your aunt.
      I am not anti-bariatric surgery.
However, people are getting this surgery and they aren’t even morbidly obese - doctor’s aren’t even thinking twice.
      Obese, sure.
Though, RIDICULOUS for this to be the first resort - especially because, nowadays, obesity has become a disease and there are so many underlying health problems that aren’t effectively addressed.
There are such risks for people getting surgeries, who have underlying health issues.
      Sure.
Bariatric surgeries are far less invasive than they ever were, prior to now.
That doesn’t imply it’s guaranteed to go smoothly and effectively.
Again, I am not anti-bariatric surgery. Though, it should not be the first line of defense - EVER.
I don’t, in any regard, regret what I went through. Though I, legitimately, was bedridden/housebound for a near decade, when it was suppose to be a simple corrective surgery.
I lost my life from age 26-34; and only started to begin rebuilding my life, the last two years.
And I have permanent health issues, as result of such medical intervention.
It feels like I died and came back to life, in a lot of ways.
The world has changed so much, in the last decade, and I only got to take part in it, for the most part, by way of social media.
I mean, what I went through.. It’s too much to convey, here.
Though, between the HORRIFIC health issues, surviving a near decade of Munchhausen’s by Proxy, at the hands of my “caretaker” mother (I have diagnosed NPD in my family), as well as surviving California’s most deadly and destructive wildfire, in 2018, when I was so incredibly sick..
Well, if I don’t get a Netflix or Hulu show with streaming royalties, once I write the screenplay - I’mma be PISSED
‘Cause my real-life can give shows like American Horror Story a run for their money.
My experience is unlikely, for most - though, that is not to say that there isn’t major risks, each person faces.
My cousin, also, had difficulties with developing a hole in her stomach - which, was where all my issues started.
And for the record, it wasn’t an inexperienced doctor, either.
I went to Cedar Sinai, in Los Angeles, and my surgeon was the head of bariatric there - hell, I even met Dolly Parton when we both walked outta the same doc’s office, and waited for the same elevator.
Though, he kept telling me the healing was a “waiting game.”
Which, caused so many other issues, because of the pain meds I was on and how they affected my system - on top of having no clue I had developed fibrosis and kidney/liver issues.
I even ended up with two MASSIVE necrotising infections on my legs, due to the edema the medication caused.
Point being with my whole damned written lecture..
Though I don’t think a stigma around weight-loss surgery should exist, in the sense of it being an easy way out, as many people do see it.
Though, there SHOULD be a stigma about it being the first line of defense, as it has become for the medical industry - as well as influencers - and dealing with what has become an epidemic of disease-induced obesity (also, pure laziness. I can not believe some of the bodies I have seen online, which, are applicable for weight-loss surgery. A few months at the gym and cutting out fast food/crap would do the trick, no problem. No morbid obesity insight).
However, I understand that desperate feeling of desiring to lose-weight - and I remember what a relief it was to get weight-loss surgery.
And prior to my becoming ill, as I had the surgery the month prior to my 19th birthday, and became ill the week prior to my 26th - those five years I had A FREAKIN’ BLAST, when I lived in Hollywood.
And I wouldn’t have had the confidence I had, if I didn’t lose weight - entirely result of bariatric surgery. I was nearly 350lbs prior to surgery, and dropped down to 200lbs, at 5’10 (and I am in no way dainty, even after losing weight AND muscle mass, lol. Though, I wear a size large, now).
So, I get it, for sure.
      However, I’m still gonna say..
Way to go, OP, for being the voice of reason.
If you’re aunt does end of getting bariatric surgery - cool.
I pray for her best success.
If she doesn’t and stays doing what she’s doing - same. I still pray for her best success.
      Whatever works.
Though, great job on convincing her to try other options out, before permanent alteration of her body takes places.
I pray you and your aunt are doing well.
      Warmest regards.

As soon as I hit puberty I suddenly stacked on weight. Went from a tiny, skinny slip of a child to a very curvy, very round teenager. And I’ve never been able to go back or even lose a significant amount of weight, no matter what I did. I was active, I didn’t overeat or eat a lot of processed foods, but I just always stayed in that overweight category. Now I’m genuinely disabled and because I stopped all working and all the running around I did, my weight ballooned out again. The stress and activity were the only things keeping my weight down to just “fat” rather than “obese”. I barely eat anything, sometimes not eating for a day or two, and then I ever only eat one small meal a day. When I’m in hospital and actually get three proper meals, I’ve actually lost weight as my metabolism seems to fire back up. In the last two days the only thing I’ve eaten is a chicken wing and a few slices of cured sausage. But I have so many health issues, making myself food is often impossible. People need to change their idea of what makes people obese and also how possible it is to actually lose weight and keep it off. It is not just calories in/calories out!

    • @TheBaumcm
      @TheBaumcm 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

CICO, calories in/out, it is actually that simple HOWEVER what no one mentions is how difficult the task is of accurately determining calories out and even in some cases in, especially if you are restricting which can turn on those starvation mode genes. My husband was in the hospital for mono and gained weight! One, you do need to be honest, via weights and measures, as to what you are eating. Two, the activity is always simply more than what you are doing now and must include some form of strength training (the body stagnates in cardio and can actually reduce metabolic response to it). I was 50 pounds over (about 40% of a reasonable weight over) and I started with walking at night with my husband. We actually started just to have time together and talk. We started losing weight and started looking at our food. I was amazed at how many calories I was eating and how taking honest stock changed my view of food. I was able to focus on getting enough protein, consider my calories like a budget (is it worth it/bang for the buck, and does it get me as much nourishment for what my body needs to be able to do for the calorie count). We didn’t restrict ourselves and we changed our entire lifestyle over the course of a year. He dropped about 100 pounds and I dropped 50, in that year. I still stick to what I was doing, as I said, lifestyle, and every now and again, indulge in eating what I want when I want but for the most part, food has become a supporting player in my life it always should have been, not the main character.

Although I have disordered eating due to mental health, it's never developed into a full-blown eating disorder or other weight-related health condition. And novo nordisk made Rybelsus - its semaglutide in form of oral tablets, but some ppl with diabetes dont want them because Its not so good for weight loss (And Its because nausea is not si common side effect ....lol)

Just to clear up some confusion (my fault with terrible script writing):
Ozempic - prescribed to Diabetics (FDA APPROVED FOR SUCH)
Wegovy - prescribed for obesity and other health issues (FDA APPROVED FOR WEIGHT LOSS)
Both can be prescribed for weight loss off-label. Not as the FDA approved them.
Both (and other brand names) contain the active ingredient semaglutide.

Ozempic is a lower active ingredient and use for weight loss is off label. Likely neither being used for weight loss will be covered by insurance, as it’s considered a cosmetic treatment. I currently am on a compound version of semaglutide, I’ve never taken Ozempic or wegovy, but I take a version of it that is the main ingredient with b-12 as well that helps the headaches and nausea. I’ve been on it for 3 months now and have never had nausea. I know it is not something I can continue to do long term, I only wanted something to help me get on the path of losing weight and living a healthy lifestyle. I was pre diabetic and obese on the bmi scale before, and now I have lost 22 pounds, am not pre diabetic and I am now overweight on the bmi scale. My physician and dietitian recommend a low carb diet while taking semaglutide. I am insulin resistant, have PCOS, and this drug really works for me. I’ve seen many people say they won’t lose weight at all or just barely, but I find it’s so hard to eat, every day feels like thanksgiving. I only plan on being on semaglutide for another month or two, I have a goal that I know I can reach without the medication with discipline and hard work. I just wanted to share my experience so people can know that it does work for some people, maybe even most people. I’ve lost 70 pounds before doing keto and exercising, but that was more than 4 years ago and I found that it’s been very hard for me to lose weight since then.

I tried ozempic for a year and I only lost 15lbs but the entire time I was EXTREMELY sick. My doctor didn't want me to get off of it, until I officially made the decision. I was nauseous all day and vomiting several times a day. Ultimately, weight loss surgery was the way to go, and I'm 3 months post op and I feel SO MUCH BETTER. Having less severe and less frequent migraines and way more energy was reason enough to get the surgery.
I love how you explained everything in this video. People were slamming those who were using it for weight loss, without thinking of the countless of other reasons besides beauty to lose weight. I've always been big, it was never about my image and all about my health. But you're absolutely right, if it's taking away from people with medical reasons to use it, doctors should not be prescribing it. Thank you for this take. I haven't seen this perspective on social media. It's been really negative and a difficult thing to discuss when the topic does come up.

I agree, chronic weight issues deserve special medical attention too. It’s a condition that leads to other conditions down the line. Why wait till you actually have diabetes? This is exactly why it became a “trend” in the first place. Doctors saw the promise for other metabolic conditions, but then the medically privileged took advantage of it.
Some of the outrage was necessary, but a lot of it was downright ignorant. It just goes to show our bad mindset about healthcare. You aren’t worthy of medical attention, until your pretty much at deaths door. People using it for weight loss wasn’t the issue. The issue comes down to unethical medial supply lines, that create strategic scarcity to keep prices high.

If you have any chronic pain associated with your PCOS, I’d look into low dose naltrexone. It’s an anti opioid and helps to manage chronic pain. It has helped me tremendously with my hEDS and fibromyalgia pain as well as endometriosis pain. I’ve lost a lot of weight on it too, which my doctors didn’t think was previously possible due to Cushing’s syndrome. The only other thing I’ve changed is cutting out yeast from my diet due to an allergy. Thought it was a gluten issue for ages but was tested and turns out I’m allergic to yeast and it’s in almost everything. I feel better now though and have continued to lose weight probably in part because of this change (I don’t recommend this for others unless sensitive or allergic to yeast) as well as the medication. Just thought I’d recommend the naltrexone though, it’s been a miracle for me on both the pain and weight front. I hope you’re doing well and I’m glad you’ve found success with weight loss surgery!

You have to totally stop eating sugars/carbs along with the shot. Either way, stopping eating sugars will help you bc PCOS makes you have insulin sensitivity/intolerance. I have PCOS too and felt the same way you did abt knowing something was wrong with why I couldn’t lose weight and finally saw an endocrinologist and I never realized PCOS affected you metabolically like that. I tried Wegovy and ozempic and wegovy which is specifically made for weight loss was much easier on me, however ozempic is the only thing I can get and I have to get it from Canada. So you might consider a different type of a similar med and ensuring you follow all the diet requirements, bc hormones control everything your body does and I eventually stopped having a period and only saw an endocrinologist at that point. I never knew why diets and exercise seemed to have no affect on me. But after 2 weeks of ozempic the side effects faded away and I’ve lost weight for the first time in yrs. I’m sure these meds will get more sophisticated in the future and just wish you luck in your journey bc it’s not easy. Just happy there’s more options out there for us. Take care.

While I have struggled with my weight most of my adult life, the last 7 years I’ve been fighting for my health against rare diseases and disabilities that hit me left and right. One of the worst was Myasthenia Gravis, a neuromuscular autoimmune disease that ran my body and my energy level into the ground. At my worst a 20 foot walk left me completely breathless and required a 3 hour nap to recover from. At my best I can run errands like grocery shopping, and general things you might do on a typical day, but then I’m sleeping for 18 hours straight and in bed for the next 3 days. Needless to say exercise isn’t on my radar. I take a lot of medication just to stay at the 80% wellness I’m currently at. A few years ago I went from 180lbs to 120 through willpower and calorie-counting. I lost 1-2lbs a week and looked great afterward, just a smaller version of myself. But then I got into an abusive relationship and the stress caused me to drop 20 more pounds really quickly over 4 or 5 weeks. When I'm anxious or upset I completely lose my appetite, like I will gag and choke if I try to eat so I was surviving on smoothies and soup which just weren't enough calories. 100lbs is actually not an unusually low weight for my frame(5'1"), but the rapidity of the loss made me look "deflated". Saggy skin, sunken eyes, wrinkles, I looked like Gollum lol. I got rid of that guy and am healthy now, but it was pretty scary to barely recognize myself for a while.

As someone with PCOS, Ozempic has been the only way I've been able to lose weight. I was able to lose around 40lbs (18kg) and was able to keep it off for months until I broke my ankle and began stress eating. With how it shrank my appetite, it has changed the way I see food and how much I truly need in order to keep my body functioning. I stopped using it around the time of the shortage due the side effects I was experiencing, and it was more important that someone who needed it for their quality of life and necessity, that they had access to it. I also think it's important to add that a "healthy" diet and exercise should not be done only with the intention of losing weight. This can (and does) lead to disordered eating and negative relationships with exercise. Plus, eating "healthy" and exercise doesn't automatically mean someone is going to lose weight, disease or not! Instead, we as a society need to focus on eating intuitively and exercising for full-body wellness, not conforming to standards of what an "ideal" and "healthy" body looks like.

    • @PugandOwn
      @PugandOwn ปีที่แล้ว +14

breaking down diet culture "health" advice is always so frustrating. bc yes you need fat and sugars in your diet for your body and especially brain to work. no red meat isn't the devil, it's nutritionally dense in a very helpful way (especially for iron; anaemia gd sucks). yes your body will have fat on it and this is good unless you REALLY like breaking your bones and freezing to death. no feeling more energetic after cutting out [X product] from your diet doesn't mean it was a ploy by Big Supermarket to poison the populace, you probably just need to look into your gut health.
and like, setting aside that not everyone's able to reach a state of being ~healthy~ (no amount of exercise will fix an autoimmune condition lol), health looks drastically different from person to person. the gymnast built like a twig can be just as healthy as the powerlifter that looks like a sapient bulldog. and both of them are definitely healthier than the instragram influencer advertising laxatives to teenagers.

I go with "I diet and exercise to maintain my health." That helps me psychologically remember that there was a time when I was underweight, physically weak and injured, malnutritioned and had stopped eating and I do not want to go back there even though I'm technically obese now according to BMI. I also have mental health conditions so the last thing I should do is do a "diet" to bring on sudden destabilizing mood swings. Much better if I do a slow process of stabilizing my brain and body in sync. I really like the holistic approach instead of only relying on one thing like body image or pharmaceuticals or ...meditation ( I hate meditation it does nothing for me) or the gym ( I come out of the gym workout anxious. I don't know who these calm gym people are) Lol! I take low doses of medication off and on. I have a personal trainer once a week, I walk up hills, cycle, swim, dance and play soccer-football. I like Pilates, yoga and zumba. On a good day I like the cross trainer and rowing machine ( hate the treadmill) and enjoy working out my legs and back ( arms are annoyingly weak) I go to three support groups a week and I have a therapist through better help. When I am well enough to cook, I put together protein, fibre, green veg and a few carbs and am satisfied. I love fruit. I have a sneaky chocolate bar twice a week. I try to do 10000 steps a day but I don't beat myself up if I only get to 5000 ( some days I have terrible fatigue,PMS or I have a cold then I need to rest). Because if you do anything as a punishment or restriction or deprivation, it's hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle over all..mentally, physically and in your relationships. I know men the same age as me( 40s and 50s) who struggle with sexual dysfunction because their whole body is overfilled with adrenaline and cortisol and women who are the same ( 30s, 40s and 50s) but instead, they are depressed with too much cortisol, zero input for dopamine, serotonin, endorphin or oxycotin and other hormonal ( estrogen, progesterone and testosterone rapid cycling) battles. Most of that you can't fix with a pill believe it or not ( they've tried). And I can tell you nothing more soul-identity and self-image destroying than losing your sexual function before retirement age.

I've lost 98lbs in about 10 months using Ozempic. I have had to really overcome the guilt of using a diabetes drug for weight loss, but I was "morbidly obese" at 248 lbs, have PCOS, had been trying every other option under the supervision of my weight loss clinician for over 3 years and my A1C was in the pre-diabetic range. More notably, health insurance in the US will do ANYTHING to not pay for drugs that expensive ($1000+ a month) if they can figure out a way. The way I finally convinced myself to be ok with it was that my insurance company NEVER argued about covering it for me and I know other people with the same insurance who have been denied. And if the insurance company thought I needed it, then I needed it.
The worst early side effect was the constant nausea, but I never had headaches. I already take meds for migraines though, so that could have been why.
I do have that "Ozempic Face" problem and it truly is because you can't control where the fat leaves from. I lost pretty much my whole a$$ too and my knees, shoulders and tailbone have no cushion anymore either.
But most importantly, I'm no longer obese, my A1C is now in normal range (no longer pre-diabetic) and I no longer have to take blood pressure medication. Plus, my back and knees don't hurt anymore. And that's the real reason I did it. It's just a bonus that I'm not too self-conscious the wear shorts anymore. 😂

@@omgitschristina0 Kickbacks are not at all legal, and any doctor or pharma company engaging in that sort of thing in the US would face serious consequences. There's no need to make stuff up -- the system is bad enough as is. Prescription drugs are heavily marketed to both patients and physicians, and when you combine that with the horrible culture around weight and massive weight-loss industry, it's easy to see how this can get over-prescribed without any direct financial incentive for the prescriber (though if they're a private physician for rich people, making their clients happy is enough of a financial incentive). Insurance companies would also rather pay for a quick, easy pharmaceutical solution than expensive, long-term lifestyle interventions (physical therapists, personal trainers, dieticians, etc.). It's a mess, but most healthcare providers at least try to be ethical.

The American Prescription Service is a racketeering conspiracy. My mom's a nurse who worked in 4 different countries in the Caribbean, In the UK, in Libya and in the USA. She always tells me not to allow doctors to drug me with lots of medication unnecessarily. We are literally guinea pigs. They used to prescribe pure cocaine and barbituates ( opioid based) to people in the 1930s and 40s and then had to lobotomize and institutionalize them. If you can find a non-medical intervention way to do it, do that. I watch the guy on the raw juice diet documentary and all his medical conditions and prescriptions when away! Fair enough he was monitored and that was an extreme version but I always feel better when I do my 10,000 steps and drink coconut water and raw green juice. Earlier this year I was quite ill and struggled to eat so I started making green soup: kale, spinach and broccoli with chicken stock. I started to feel better within a week. As long as I'm under 60, I'm going to stay off unnecessary medications for as long as possible. Some medical staff even wanted to give me "preventative" antibiotics when we already know that people develop a resistance to them in the long term. I refused and said until my results say I have an infection then I do not want to be injected with antibiotics. I took the pandemic vaccine due to travel necessity but I have friends and acquaintances who never travel anywhere so they say no point in taking it and I support them in their decision.

I also want a breast reduction but where I live I'd have to pay for it myself bc of my bmi, hence why I was thinking about asking about something like this. If I could lose some weight it'd really help my feet and joints and it'd probably be easier to move around just bc I'm lighter. I'd probably also actually find pants I can wear too. I'm just worried about how it would affect my body in relation to my health issues and many medications, I'm not insulin resistant and my values are always good so I'm guessing I'd be ok but adding another medication to the cocktails I already have just makes me worry a bit.

I think it's important to note some peoples brain can be so fixated on food (through ADHD or just years of coping mechanisms stuff) that "just eat less" is the same as when people tell depressed people to cheer up. This drug gives those people 6-12 months of not craving food so their brain has a chance to reprogram. Not me I'm incredibly lucky (?) that diet culture made me so afraid of food I can easily go a day without eating ha ha I don't it's ok!

This. Especially those of us who were undiagnosed ADHD. My relationship with food is so poor that even when I got diagnosed and on dexys, I know it’ll make me not want to eat. So if I want to binge food, I won’t take my ADHD meds. Everything in my life quickly falls apart.
On Ozempic, it’s a choice once a week to jab myself, which allows me the frame of mind to then take my ADHD meds each day because I’m not obsessing over food. I don’t know how this ends, though, because I can’t see myself ever not needing it (yes, I have a therapist).
Either way, it’s nice to have a little relief, even if it’s just for awhile.

I got diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes end of Feb. Started on Metformin. I was offered Ozempic initially, but didn't want side effects and stress of shortage of the pen. Also monitoring my sugar with home blood testing. So far, have lost 10 lbs. Doing my blood sugar testing really shows me the right kind of diet helps big time. Cut out sugars, white rice, and more. I am one of the lucky ones that does not have to rely on this injectable medication.

You’re not lucky, you’re putting in the work! Most people can avoid being dependent on these meds if they do what you’re doing. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it to avoid insulin, metformin, or Ozempic and all the awful side effects that come with them. Great job! Keep it up, you won’t regret it!!🙌👏

@Ki Ki actually Metformin is working for me. It is helping me regulate my blood sugar levels. I am working on behavior modification, and losing weight. Once I lose enough weight, I believe I can quit the metformin. My body will be on track. The hard part will be maintaining all of that. I don't plan on being on it forever, just until I get things well under control.

    • @KiKi-tf8rv

@@lorifrederick2367 Oh I totally get that! I almost went on it, but because of other underlying health issues I didn’t want the side effects. Are you having any bad side effects or are you doing alright? I’m able to keep my blood sugar in check, but I have to be extremely low carb. I’m on a ketogenic diet, but it’s almost carnivore. It works well for me. Part of the reason I don’t want to be dependent on medications is because I’ve been on meds for many years (for other things.) I’ve had doctors, pharmacies, insurance companies, and the government take my medications away at different points in my life. I don’t want to be dependent on something that someone else can take away from me if I can help it! Good luck on your health journey, you definitely sound like you’ve got the right mindset!♥️

i am taking mounjaro (similar to Ozempic) and i have been fat/obese/heavy *wtv* since i was a kid. it's not fun and now that i get to be in my 50s i look back on the times where i was able to move without my stupid joints expressing their discontent *LOUDLY* at me for having the absolute disgusting audacity to try to ride a bike for 20 minutes without crying or dying 🤦‍♀🤷‍♀ I am diabetic, which is on me ... well, 50/50 genetic lottery and the adverse reaction i have to exercise 🙊🙈 but i have a kiddo now and he's going to be needing me and his dad for a while yet. dx w/autism at 2 on the moderate/severe end ... and he's just turned 17 this year, still can't be left alone ... so... me and mounjaro and trying to lose weight so that i can be here for how ever long he needs me to be.
As usual your content is awesome and almost as amazing as you are 😊😍💗💗💗 love from the crazy fat lady in Utah!
i forgot... yeah, the mounjaro is like the O, and there's Trulicity too. I haven't ever really "over" eaten, just had a bad bad bad habit of liking cheesecake (crème brûlée) over other things. now i watch what i eat and i try to at least exercise 20 minutes every day. the kiddo is absolutely worth it. There was a major shortage a little bit ago, of it seemed like all 3 of them (O,M,T) and a lot of the people that needed it couldn't get it. I was going to CVS for my prescription of M and they decided to not carry it anymore, so i moved the prescription over to Costco. Haven't had any problems since.

In the US we have also recently had this problem with adderall - people taking it for weight loss off label and then people with ADHD (who literally cannot function like a normal person without it) cannot get their RX and are forced to become even more anxious worried about if we can get our medication that month. It sucks.

We live in Ireland and here the demand haven't eased at all. For about 6 months now it's a struggle to get the Ozempic injections for my diabetic mom. Over the last 10-15 years there was nothing else that worked for her to have her blood sugar levels under control. I have to keep calling around to a dozen pharmacies every time she needs the next pen. Usually it takes me 2-3 days to locate one if I am even able to do so. It's crazy.

I work in a pharmacy, and the number of people trying to get Ozempic when they aren't diabetic is ridiculous...The shortage is purely because of this "trend". We have to turn away customers who are wanting it for weight loss, because we just are not getting enough stock for these people as well as those who ACTUALLY need it. We keep the stock for our regular diabetic customers only :/

Obesity is also a chronic and relapsing disease that deserves treatment. It has many of the same outcomes as Type 2. Most Type 2 diabetics suffered from obesity for many years before developing diabetes. Treating obesity is not vanity, it's healthcare. The only people that don't NEED it are those looking to use a few pounds and are at a weight where it's not medically indicated. The shortages of Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro are the responsibility of Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly, and physicians that are prescribing the medication without medical need.

So I worked last year with a physician who prescribed Ozempic to most of her patients for weight loss (she was a weight loss specialist) and I think in the US with the current physician shortage, there are incredibly long wait times to see providers and the drug lasts in your body at least a week so if you feel like shit (Nausea and vomiting and heartburn are huge symptoms) you 1. Can't see a provider that quick to discuss what is happening and 2. You feel like that for at least a week not to mention that I've literally seen people get addicted to the weight loss where like they will literally fly to Canada to get it, it's also about $1200 per month without insurance and without dietary changes it might not even change any of your health problems like high BP and high cholesterol. It's basically the pharmaceutical equivalent of a gastric bypass but it's literally being marketed en-masse, and we don't have nearly enough research on potential long term effects

I’m on it cause for the first time in my life, I’m overweight. But like 60lbs overweight in just a year. Only 28 but even my liver took a hit, high testosterone, sugars are getting high so this is extremely important that I lose the weight. I was walking 4-6 mi a day and eating better at a deficit, but it was torture as anything less than 3000 cal made me feel like I was without food for 3 days. Now I’m eating 1200-1500 no prob and it has inspired me to taking care of myself more in all aspects. Even things I’ve never had control of eating, I’m eating healthy portions. I’ve lost 10lbs in this first month alone. I’m not worried about the “ozempic” face as my skin is super resilient and honestly, my overall health is much more important. I do think there is a scary influx of people getting it to lose just 5lbs or even get down lower than healthy levels when they are already at a healthy bmi. It shouldn’t be used for that reason.
