Chasing a SUB 41 10K (Exeter Racecourse)

  • Exeter racecourse 10K in Devon is the first race in a year. Whilst a sub 40 10km run was still a stretch, a sub 41.30 (and maybe even a sub 41 10K) seemed like it might just be possible in my current state of fitness, and following a very helpful 8KG of weight loss over the past year. Thank you to the organisers: it's great to be back racing again.

    Thank you Harry. As entertaining as ever. It's a real fillip to see official running events slipping back onto the calendar.
    Can't wait for my first proper, timed race since ... I keep having this dream where my next competitive run is a long, obstacle infested trail run (not unlike last year's New Forest Marathon at Wimborne St Giles) that finishes in a cobweb infested castle and a long queue stretching away from a bedroom occupied by a sleeping princess.
    Hopefully it will actually be the Eastleigh 10k on July 4. Hoping to crack the 50 minute barrier: just a week and a day after the return of parkrun!
    Everyone: good luck on your next chipped run! Stay lucky!

      Quite the dream David - maybe one day JOG ON can create fantastical running adventures for people.

    Hi Harry . Good effort. Would have joined you if i had known being up the road in Barnstaple. Have run Exeter racecourse as well when it was part of the Haldon 10k which is a good race a few years back. GAZZ and Rileyboy. 🥁🥁

    Nice one! I've got my 10k PB in the wake of a full marathon training block. 10k almost seems easy in the aftermath of that. Can recommend scheduling a 10k a week or so after target race.

    Great running Harry, you looked comfortable at that pace. How did you manage to drop 8kg in weight? thats a lot of weight to drop i'm looking to shed a few kgs myself hoping it will improve my times.

    • @thisisjogon
      @thisisjogon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question Gary. Running and weight is a weird subject, and I guess different for different people.
      The biggest thing for me, has just been eradicating the concept of a dessert after a meal, just having a cup of tea instead.
      So basically cutting down on sugar intake, and as that is happening, just taking the mileage up a little, for me this has been to around 30-40 miles a week (still nothing compared to some I know!)
      It’s a slow process, and not that fun, but just trying to see the bigger picture of, I really want to be a bit healthier and I really do want to perform better during races, kept me fairly on track. I still have another 7-8kg again I can lose to really be in great shape, and I think it can happen with a consistent and focussed effort.
      Thank you for watching and all the best with your own running journey Gary.

    Enjoying ur videos P.s.. what is the vo2max of the average sub 20minute 5k runner? Just want a number to work for on the aerobike while injury recovering. Luckily aerobike doesn't trigger it.

    Good race man.What are key sessions to run a sub 41 min. 10k currently stuck at 44ish?

    • @thisisjogon
      @thisisjogon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can get yourself to a group session on an athletics track once a week consistently that would be a big difference, then try to get at least a steady 10 miles in on a Sunday. Those can be two of the most effective sessions (if you aren’t doing those already)
