    Thank you!!! My USB plug instructions just said "line" and I had no idea what to do with the load, so I just taped off the hot and neutral load wires... Of course, it didn't work. I thought connecting both the line and load wires to the same node might be bad, so I didn't try that.

    What if my new outlet only has one screw on each side and no "quick release" holes in back? Am I supposed to hook both wires around the screw stem?

      What country is that plug from? United States?

    • @billtruttschel
      @billtruttschel ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DIYGEEKTEXAS Yes, U.S. I figured it out. The screw had a little metal "plate" underneath it, and both wires get straightened out and clamped under the plate when screwed down.

    Is there any vampire drain when usb plugs are not used?

      Great question, I have tested vampire drain on my test bench, fortunately there is NO vampire drain with USB ports are not being used.

    How powerful are the usb plugs?

      You can buy these USB wall outlets with different USB power capacity from 2.1 amps to 4.0 amps. Here is one I recommend from Amazon which provides 3.1 amps: amzn.to/3mCQEsU

    No, no, no... you sell this house, and someone comes to inspect this and see 2 wires tighten down by 1 screw they will fail it..... use pig tails, people use a wire nut, take all the hots, put them together with one going to the USB outlet, the same with neutral it's alot safer and up to code... I can see alot of house fires are going to start with these things

    I wonder how much electrician charge to do this wall outlet to usb outlet replacement?

    • @DIYGEEKTEXAS
      @DIYGEEKTEXAS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would guess, a licensed electrician would charge $70 to change just one, but if you have a few to do at the same trip, should be much less, the wall outlet with USB plug itself is only about $12 each from Amazon: amzn.to/3mCQEsU

    Whenever you change an outlet you should install ground prong up. "Upside-down" If something happens that a cord gets pulled out a little something can fall and bridge the connections causing a blown circuit or fire. Whereas if the ground prong is up its safer.

      Sorry, I don’t agree. Our outlet was upside down and the refrigerator cord was bending from the plug, to me that’s more dangerous
