I can't remember where I read about it but I heard that getting about 20 minutes of sun on your face and arms everyday is enough to absorb adequate amounts of vitamin d. I always protect my face but let my arms and legs soak up sun for short periods of time before putting on sunscreen. And after researching the effects of chemical sunscreen on the environment and ocean life, I always wear physical sunscreen now.

Advice from my garden loving mother in law- with seedlings you want to keep them moist all the time. The best way is to spray them with a spray bottle instead of just straight up watering them with a watering can because it's too intense for them.
Sunscreen does block vitamin D absorption but it’s still so important and way better to wear a physical (not chemical) one. The ingredients in chemical sunscreens are not good. A ton of people are deficient in vitamin D even with sun exposure, I always am low when I get bloodwork so I supplement daily! One recommendation I’ve heard is spending around 20 min in the sun without sunscreen for the vitamin D and then apply sunscreen to minimize risk!
That is what I heard too..20 minutes without. I am always low too!
You may look at research on cold weather and hot weather crops! Things like lettuce, cabbages, carrots, beets, radishes, certain herbs and some other things only like cooler weather! Here in Texas I only plant those kinds of things in the early spring and also in the fall. That may be why some of your plants aren't doing well if it's getting over 80 degrees during the day. I do hot weather plants here in the summer like tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumbers, pumpkins, okra, zinnias, black eyed peas and lots of other things! Hope that helps some!! Love your videos!! ❤
I'm a little late but Rachel Vinn has a podcast called A Small Amount of Drama and she just had her dermatologist mom on. They talked a lot about sunscreen and sun exposure!!
I had Vitamin D level issues so my doctor told me to expose my arms and legs to 20-30 minutes a day of unprotected sun. It took several months, but now my levels are normal. She told me I was overprotected via sunscreen and clothing. And on the topic of packing cubes, I LOVE them! Game changers for packing and for easily finding things in a hotel without unpacking into drawers.

I have read that if you sit outside for 15mins in the sun without sunscreen/sunblock on you get your daily doze of Vit D.

Love your videos Allison! Just an FYI on cilantro, it bolts in the heat as well as lettuces. They like cooler temps. Kale and Collards do well in the heat and cool weather too. I live in SC and all of my cilantro is now bolted as well and now I am about to harvest the seeds. Hope that helps. :)

bravo gardener gallll!!! Advice on the lettuce and rosemary - your climate may be too hot to grow these outdoors in this season...lettuces, spinach, kale, chard, and more of those delicate leafy greens really dislike the heat-you could try them indoors or in a colder season if you have one in FL!

I would put the water feature near the balcony. The sound is relaxing.
You need to find out what birds would nest in your house and then where and which direction the house should face. Birds are very particular. Even bees are particularly.. We have lots of bees and insect houses and the bees fight over a couple of them which they prefer.

Hi Allison, I would recommend getting a plant thermometer for your outside plants, as the heat could possibly be causing them to die more quickly, I'm no plant expert by the way! haha. The average temperature a plant should have through the day is 72°F and through night time 66°F don't quote me on that, that's just what I got from research, hope this helps! 🤗🪴
A suggestion! Can you create your recipe book as part of a merch store item? It doesn’t need to include your recipes (a few would be nice, though!) - but more of a template / including the cover page(s), dividers, etc.

A little tip about your bell peppers is when they are growing they will almost always be green, they will start to change color closer to ripening which will let you know they are ready to pick.
