- Watch the Bowhunter Final at the 2022 Lancaster Archery Classic where Jeffrey Grubb, Luke Long, Andy Hunnell, and Dakota Smith compete for the title. The target distance is 18 meters.

My favorite tournament to shoot was the 900 round. At the time I was shooting it was still in yards, not meters. Bowhunters shot 40 50 and 60 yards. sights were not allowed to be adjusted after you started shooting and you were only allowed to use a spotting scope or binoculars between ends. If I remember correctly we had to use fingers too, no release. Shooting competitively most definitely helped me be a better shooter when it came to shooting deer from a stand. Any competitive shooting will make you a much better shot on deer. What I like is the skill level of the bowhunters class is so high their scores are as high as the unlimited class.

Yeah shooting at this level is difficult. So props to all the guys brave enough to show what they got. But I do think they should be rules that prevent equipment that is not designed strictly for hunting . No target bows or target sights. Hunting arrows and all.

Man, thought this was going to be “real” hunting bows. This would be like allowing recurve balancers in barebow.
I don’t get it I thought this was the hunting class but they shooting target bows the only difference is a little shorter stabs and no magnification

As a fairly avid bowhunter. I don’t know how you Classify this category as a bowhunter round. Those are target bowS, target sights and etc.
Whatever Lancaster sells in its hunting category, those products should only be used in this class
Lancaster doesn’t sell everything. Plus everyone would have to have a new bow to compete.
I mean i hunt with a target sight i just put a pins scope on it and hunt with it. I also used to hunt with my target sight and target scope and just set the sight at a yardage and ran with it
I'd love to know more about Dakota's sight . Really like the fact that he does not have any glass in his sight. It's almost the trueiest bow hunter set up. I think the bow hunter set up needs to become more like the bare bow rules , in the way that it's the "True" bare bow: So no target bows, no glass in the sights, and no electronics on the bows other then maybe a sight light. Maybe a little bit different targets for them as well. But really not as important as making it a true bow hunter class. As far as stabilizers not sure what max front length is.
But I've seen people hunt with 24 inch front and 12 inch rear bars out west. But back to the target. I'd like to see darker circles in the yellow only because I've got old eyes, but also because the yellow holds 3 points where blue and red only have 2 each. But really not as important as the bows and the set up of those bows! Plus I think an inspection should be done by an official at the line before the start. I mentioned this only because there has been a few times in the past where a camera angle will look down the bow arm and show the sights and " to me it looks like they have magnification glass in the sight. Not much. But even a 2x would give lots of advantage.
The problem is defining target bows. Some hunting bows are 35 inches. The new Hoyt is 36.

@@adamrecon I don’t think bright colors give a distinct advantage lol but that’s pretty understandable. Only problem is that a lot of real tall guys hunt with target bows.
I hunt with the same bow that I shoot indoor NFAA 5 spot and indoor 3D with. Have hunted the last 3 seasons with a target bow and will be hunting this year with a target bow. Even killed my first last fall with an echelon 39 out of a ground blind then 2 more 10 minutes apart out of a climbing stand.
There are some glass lens that have no magnification they are just a piece of glass so the shooter can shoot a dot if they choose to do so
I have to say that while I love shooting competitions, and I shoot hunter class in the local 3-D scene, this is a far cry from a bow hunter class. I get it, this is an indoor competition, blah, blah. But let's be honest, shooting a target bow with shorter stabs and no lens, but shooting 27 DIA arrows and what not in this class just means you know that you have no shot winning the open class.
I shoot against guys like this all the time at leagues with my hunting rig. I even accidentally knocked an arrow one day that still had a broad head on it. Keep this class open for the guys and girls that truly want to shoot a hunting rig. Not hide from the open guys.

I’m fine with guys shooting target bows in this division to a point because you can hunt with any bow. No sight magnification and arrow ID limits would be more realistic though IMHO.
There is no magnification allowed in this class

Actually the 12 dot is smaller it’s 1.5 cm while the regular 11 ring is 2 cm

That division founder is a pretty funny guy. Definitely need to shoot out of stands next year.
How can that even be a "bow hunter" class, Nothing they are using (bow/arrows) would not be used in hunting. Seems deceptive.
I think the only rule they should change is arrow diameter max 5/16".

Hunter rules state that stabilizer lengths, no magnification, and a no adjustments can be made at the stake.
Btw, those guys could kill a deer with those same equipped bows if they wanted…
If you want primitive, watch the bare bow class and settle down….
These guys work hard to get to this point and the competition is twice as tough bc everyone wants a piece of the “Easy” class!!
To be fair you could kill a deer with a .22 as well. Do people do it? No because there's better options. I think the main gripe guys are having is that they're still using target bows, i don't have a gripe about the sights because there's a good amount of guys using single pins nowadays especially in western states. I would love to see them use actual hunting bows or maybe even cap ATA length at say 34". But hey I'm sitting here still watching it either way lol
I think that if you shoot Bowhunter then it must be a hunting bow. If your taking a target bow to shoot bowhunter then you’re in the wrong class.!!
And if you think it’s ok to use a target bow in the bow hunter class. You are not a hunter!
It's the unlimited side bar length that gets me.
The last time I shot bowhunter class, 5 minutes before I stepped on the line I was unscrewing my broadheads.
Yeah anytime I shoot that class I use my hunting bow and arrows. I don’t change to fat arrows even.
Well besides the paint job there's not much difference between bows, they are limited in stabilizer lengths and people do hunt with fast eddie movable sights... Who cares if they're camo?
I shoot in the bow hunter class for leagues. Some of the open guys were making fun of me for still having my quiver on the bow. I also took out an arrow from the quiver that still had a broad head on it.

"bowhunter division" let me fix it.... 34" ata max. no fat arrows, 60lbs min draw weight, no blade rests. then it would be bowhunter.

People use to hunt with 40 plus inch bows all the time and i know a lot of people who hunt with less than 60 pounds so i don’t think your logic works i agree with the arrow size i mean you could do that i suppose but what constitutes a blade rest if u think about it i mean does an old TM hunter rest constitute as a blade?
@@blakebrosmer5518 you want to go trucking thru the woods with a 40” and a TM hunter be my guest. Old construction saying- “they don’t build them like they used too!! , and its a damn good thing they don’t!!” First bow i hunted with was a golden eagle falcon 48” ata with a tm hunter and brass pins! Not sure i would go back to that.
@@jaysonsulser6099 oh i agree i don’t wanna go back to it either I’m just saying that it is very possible to hunt with longer bows and it has been done for years I’ve actually hunted with my target bow before and got a nice doe with it as long as it’s somewhat quiet you should be fine

Where are the hunting bows?? I don’t know anyone shooting 38 inch axle to axle. Come on Lancaster? Make it 34 inches an under or 2 classes for sub 32 and 32 to 36. While also having to pull at least 60 lbs. or quit calling it bowhunter class
A lot of people hunt with less than 60 pounds so a draw minimum isn’t exactly bow hunter people used to hunt with 40 plus inch bows all the time
If it's bowhunter they should be using hunting bows not target bows and out of treestands yeehaw
This is dumb.....u ain't hunting with those bows....should be atleast a 60# draw rule and none of these target bows....they just using target bows with shorter stabs... totally ridiculous
So your telling me you have never seen someone hunt with a bow under 60 pounds because i know a lot of people who do i mean bows are so fast now you don’t need to be shooting a ton of poundage and you don’t need knockdown power or power to drive through bone if you make a well placed shot
