- Carrying on with early world war two defences of great Britain, I pay a visit to the Isle of Sheppey which is in the South East of England, and visit some disappearing pillboxes belonging to Warden point. I couldn't find much info on this defensive area, until I got back home. A bit more `digging ` revealed that this area was used by the `chain home` radar system. This defensive area used the chain home `low`, which picked up low flying aircraft. There is also a very broken pre-radar concrete dish called `sound ` mirror which try's to detect the sound of an incoming aircraft engine, and try`s to detect the type of aircraft it was. In this video, I ended up slipping inside one of these pillboxes, which goes to show that it`s not the safest of hobbies to take up. . Luckily I wasn't injured . Thanks for watching !!

6.50 am back in the 50s and 60s we used to play in the bunkers they were on the top then and the dish fully intact, we would try to turn the generator round great days and memories great video
Good morning William. Priceless memories indeed. Thanks for watching and commenting. ❤️😊
I grew up on Warden Bay, I spent 15 years playing along the coast line you're documenting in this video, the pill box half way through your video I spent years with my mates back in the days chilling on. It was alot higher, and slid down the cliff over time.
Over the last 15 years that cliff side has eroded atleast 10 meters.
I always remember me and my dad cycling along the road near from this shelter and it just falls of the cliff, 30 years ago it was where my dad's friends house was.
Hi Charlie. Its just a shame what's happening to our east coastline, and the amount of properties that are being washed away. Parts of the history that you used to play in will be gone forever. Hopefully great memories for you. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
I worked at a caravan park at Warden Point in about 1978, the site had a concrete box on the cliff edge, then it was just gone, slipped over the edge. A handful of days before ,me and one of the sons of the site owner were standing next to the box , then it just slid down the cliff. Surreal moment, did we imagine it on the site edge!?😮
I never new those were there, will investigate this summer. Cheers!
Hi john. Check the tide tables. Much more access when its out. And be careful. Those pillbxes are very slippy. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😊
The building with the concrete plinth in is the generator room . The generator was mounted on the plinth . Nice work very interesting 👍
Hi James. Thanks for the information. It did look like a munitions store due to the extra outer walls, at least i know what it was used for now . Thank you for watching and commenting 😊
@@bunkersfortificationsandme7688 No problem 😊
be carefull out ther good vid
Hi Colin. Thanks for your concern. I will be a lot more careful next time . Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
I play in this in 1970
I can bet that its changed a lot since then. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
I can't help thinking the Omaze Kent house (which was a WW2 gun emplacement "the gunnery") will end up like this?
Morning nigel. Sadly the coast is eroding, and if the gun emplacement is on the cliff edge, it's possible to end up in the sea. Along the east coast you can see our defences crumbling away. Its the same on the French coast. All part of history that we can never get back. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Hope you are well and not too bruised ! Just wondered if you have any plans of a visit to Torcross, (Shipton sands), where the American forces did their training for the D-Day landings , and where the beach landings came under attack, I think this would make a good video. Stay safe. Richie
Hi richie. Ive been to slapton sands before, many years ago. I didnt document anything then, but its on my list. Im off back over to europe soon, and im visiting a bunker where those german schnellboats were based that did so much damage during operation tiger. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
@@bunkersfortificationsandme7688 Same here , went to Slapton about 1991 to the tank memorial, (before they stuck keep off signs on it !!). The American cemetery in Normandy has a plaque, (Walls of the Missing), commemorating the slapton attack and if memory serves, I think all those that were lost have their names engraved .
@@richieRichard613 Hi Richie. I've been to the American cemetery as well. I didn`t know that those lost souls are commemorated there. I will have a look the next time I visit. Thanks for the information. 🙂
@@bunkersfortificationsandme7688Sorry, gave you a bum steer there ! it's not the American Cem, it's at Utah beach memorial, plaque was erected at Utah Beach, Normandy, on the wall of a former German anti-aircraft bunker. I'll have to get a better memory chip fitted ! LOL all the Best richie
@@richieRichard613 no problems richie. I would have googled it first 😁. Thanks anyway for bringing it to my attention 😊
