Pretty much the same thing that happens in the old Romero films, too. Law enforcement completely fell apart because too many people took their guns and ran.
In Walking Dead everyone is infected and reanimates after death, making incredibly difficult to cointain infection by normal means. You put up a blockade, but one guy in your rear gets heart attack or appendicitis, reanimates and wreak havoc, killing others and raising them as well, so you have to pull out troops to kill them. If you have a lot of people, threse incidents can spring all the time, making dents in your organisation untill it collapses entirely. Small groups at least can monitor their own constantly.
The moment the Stormtrooper in the Star Wars movies hit the protagonist either crippling, injuring or killing them. I bet 1,000,000,000 dollars that All Star Wars fans and nerds would shout out. "SLANDER!!!!" As if the Stormtrooper is forever destined to miss and it's invincible levels final.
Bro you didn’t watch the whole scene. These soldiers are high on cocaine, meth, and mushrooms. That’s why they keep missing because they’re seeing double. Some of them even think that the fence wirings and the ground are the zombies.
From my understanding based off the soldiers reactions of the horde they are new probably 18-20 year olds. They have no experience so doesn’t really surprise me

@@SpartanJoe193 Not sure if I can agree with you there. The problem with the TWD strain is that -anyone- that dies becomes one. Any pockets that fall all become walkers, and in a city full of high rise buildings that rapidly becomes thousands or tens of thousands. Utilities break down, logistics fail, and just like in TWD soldiers begin to desert to protect their families because the problem is -everywhere-. It wouldn't take decades to overrun a country - the zombies appeared in every single village, town and city at the same time. Also look at the scenario in FTWD. They put all the civilians in that stadium because nobody was bitten. Fine. One person dies, bites someone else, and suddenly you have a horde.
@@SpartanJoe193 - I did a quick Google search, and 8,152 people die per day in the United States (2023 data). That's 50,000 a week. About a quarter million a month. Almost three million a year. That's just deaths not caused by walkers. I think it would get out of control very quickly.

i hate how they show "the military got overrun" in zombie movies .Now if they are different kind of zombies like the mutations from Resident Evil or the fast zombies from World War Z i understand but there is no way in hell the military could get overrun by slow moving corpses
The RE games I think make a good case for how the military would get overun even with the Walker type zombies when you have other monsters and mutations stemmed from the T-Virus like Lickers or Hunters. Fast zombies make sense as well for obvious reasons such as the 28 Days/Weeks Later Rage Infectees or Dawn of the Dead 04's zombies But yeah when its just walker type zombies, I'd imagine any military force while not easy, would at least make a substantial effort in zombie numbers
Let's see... >Setting up the main fence behind the small building at 1:04, which only gives a blindspot to even the soldiers on top of the tower. What they should have done is set up the fence alongside that building and even position some soldiers on top of it. >No floodlights illuminating the area outside the fence, making it harder to spot zombies and especially bandits from a distance. Aside from the base itself, their surrounding is completely dark. >Nobody warned the base of the THOUSANDS OF SLOWLY APPROACHING ZOMBIES until AFTER they're at their doorstep. No scouts to disperse them, no sniper to study their movement, nothing. >Firing in short bursts instead of full auto. It's a large group of zombies and you're unlikely to miss, what the fuck are you saving ammo for? >No use of frag grenades, incendiary or even flash grenades to slow down the horde. >Using a flimsy fence as the only line of defense. No sandbags, spikes or vehicles are used to block the way. >No barbed wire on the ground, which would have been more useful than on top of the fence. >No trenches in front or behind the fence. Not very useful for soldiers, but it can slow down zombies as they fall in the trenches and are forced to climb back up. >No backup fortification in case the first line of defense breaks down, which it did. After the fence all we get is a wide area as empty as a football field. >No line of plastic explosives to detonate in front of the base for when the zombies are close enough. >No .50 Cal emplacement. The M2 Browning could have easily torn the entire horde apart. >Not using the chopper to provide fire from the air and also distract some of zombies away from the base to focus on the chopper. >No fucking intelligence from the soldiers. The two soldiers on the tower didn't climb down to safety when they had the chance, so now they fall down and die. The guy who was bitten apparently forgot that rotating helicopter blades can be fatal (If he actually tried to kill himself, why couldn't he have just used his gun?). >No intervention when the soldier gets bit in the neck. Where the fuck are the medics? Sure, they can't cure the infection, but they can at least ease the pain. >No officers or NCOs barking orders at the soldiers. Everyone is completely silent and no direction is given. As soon as the fence goes down, everything falls in disarray. Am I missing anything?
That M60 and all the other soldier’s with M4’s together should have shredded those walkers, and why is no soldier equipped with frag granades ? The would have taken them with ease if the logic would work 😂
This is what drives me nuts about zombie movies. If they were the fast type like world war z I could see militaries having troubles. But please please tell me ho in tf a modern military wouldn’t be able to handle slow moving bunched up target in the open. Wtf kinda base doesn’t have at least one or multiple truck mounted 50. Cals. One 50. Cal machine gun could’ve shredded that entire hoarse with ease. Shit even if you missed the head shot a 50. Cal would blow them into pieces ad the rotting flesh on top of that it look like a zombie purée in front of that fence
Easy. They can’t fight against hundreds of millions of zombies. No matter how many head shots. People in the show knew how to get out of the way. Not just fight head on or stay in a lost safe place. Also, the military isn’t a group of survivors, it’s a pice of society in the process of collapsing too. Why follow orders? Where to get amo and food? That said I hate how the show just shows no walkers dying. I get that acting out and trampling actors or having them form piles of corpses is not practical. But still.
in the korean version of ALL OF US ARE DEAD, 5 well trained soldiers took down the entire zombie school with stealth and perfect accurate headshots. it was somehow realistic to me and they move like what you expect from trained soldiers. these FTWD US Soldier version is so incompetent i wonder how did these soldiers become soldiers in the first place. atleast in GEORGE ROMERO land of the dead, it was explained that the soldiers we see are just untrained civilians who panics and the real well trained soldiers are extremely hard to find or just move elsewhere.
they didn't kill all of the zombies in all of us are dead, they killed about half or a quarter maybe, and they weren't really stealthy, but i get your point
While the World War Z book makes a pretty decent case as for why the army would struggle containing the initial outbreak (y'know, stuff like the battle of Yonkers, the fact that regular explosives are surprinsingly ineffective against hordes, or that the military is trained to aim for center mass, and it's hard to switch up to headshots-only while also taking into account the fear and adrenaline the soldiers would be experiencing), it really does seem like the soldiers in this scene were armed with blanks, because they keep shooting but i don't see them actually hit any walkers. The only evidence to the contrary are the bullets hitting the fence (without actually cutting through the fence wires somehow, so i guess the fence is made out of Kevlar or something?)
Even at Yonkers they had far more Success. Yonkers was a perfect Example of how Incompetence and bad Leadership screwed up. The unnecessary Gear and Equipment, the overly large Media Coverage, no Ammunition but Electronic Warfare Equipment...
the more i think about it: the more this scene actually makes sense its clear the showrunner wasnt trying to make the military incompetent, but trying to show that there were too many walkers that overwhelmed their position. they DO infact take out tons of them but there was too many walkers, hence why they had to retreat. i just think they did a shitty way of showing that off. the only real issue i have is that the georgian national guardsmen in the og series have MOPP gear but the californians in this spinoff dont, which is a inconsistency but i can get past that. also, at 2:10 you can see two NG's try to push up and seal the breach, which is a rlly cool detail tbh.
Right bere ladies and gentlemen, is where logic leaves the chat. If this was real life, I'd say the zombie apocalypse would last a week. Because word will spread quickly about aiming for the head kills them. If everyone isn't infected, yeah I'd give the walkers a week. 2 weeks at the most.
Fear the Walking Dead was supposed to show the fall of civilization from the very beginning. Instead we got a 3 week time skip and a group condemning hundreds of people to die because they wanted to rescue a druggie.

A message to the future generations. If you plan on making any zombie movie, tv show, or game.. make the military non existent in that universe. No smart man is going to believe zombies defeated a military
I question why the military had built a very weak barbed wire fence and not a strong fence such as the commonwealth's gate, the military should know that fences like the one they used here are very weak, I mean sure the walkers shouldn't have been able to overcome that one but I'm assuming from sheer force of them pushing each other against the fence that they were able to break it. And I know someones gonna say they didn't have enough people, if they can't build a decent concrete wall around the base, how the hell did they even build the base?
Army National Guard in FTWD (and most movies and TV series): incompetent as fuck (durr) Army National Guard IRL: competent as fuck. Even if they did eventually get overrun in a situation like this (with the chain of command, logistics, and supply lines being absolutely fucked) they'd put up a hell of a fight. They'd drop those zeds by the hundreds. Really, it's only when they run out of ammo that they'd lose the upper hand. and like others have said, they would have been able to see the horde coming with proper advance. I know people hate on the National Guard, but trust me these guys know their shit irl. Give them some credit, folks.
This scene really baffles me. What were the writers/director going for here? Showing a bunch of well armed soldiers shooting point blank at slow zombies only to miss every shot is not scary at all. It doesnt build the threat of the zombies, or even the incompetence of the soldiers, if that was what the writer/director was going for. It just makes the scene frustrating to watch. Needless to say this is where i stopped watching this tv show. A real shame since it had a strong start.
Even if there isn't knowledge about zombies in this universe, heck, you can see one of the soldiers in the watch tower lands some hits on the head of some of the undead, effectively killing them. How much intelligence is required to understand that "if bullets to the center of the mass don´t kill them them try to aim to the head". It would be logical to assume as a last chance that the head should be the only organ which the undead cannot dispense with. Destroy the head and there is no possible way for the body to still be working. The brain connects all the neural and motor functions of the body, without it there is no possibility of continuing with their attacks. Also......are we supposed to believe that trained troopers from the United States are going to fail so many shoots again slow monsters and lose their accuracy by shooting to the fence instead of the head?. The zombies heads are big enough when they accumulate in the fence and also the fence holes are big enough for a bullet to trespass them. PD: They also should have created a more robust barricade, made of concrete, for example. I know this is a TV show and everything but even if it is fiction this is hardly believable. In fact is hard to believe that slow zombies even in masses in open areas could terminate humanity. With fast ones I could see it but with the classical slow ones..............
1. military is trained to aim for center mass, they wouldnt discard that training hammered into them at a whim. 2. the closer a threat is, the higher the stress level, the higher the stress the less reliable the aim. now take this cause of multiple hostiles advancing on your position, the shots you see landing dont make them fall. you see the hoard behind them, you hear the hoard behind that.
@@agelessrebellion8271 okay so I was just in the Army, infantry to be specific, and I'm telling you right now that if myself or other people I know from my old unit filled up someone's body with shots and they don't go down you best believe I'm going for their head Also yea sure that would be intimidating for the horde to be that close but considering the soldiers were about 10 feet away from the fence at most it'd be like shooting fish in a barrel, the fence only gave way due to them not being able to kill enough in time and having shit aim, not to mention how the zombies bodies would just start piling up in front of the fence and they'd have to start walking over top the piles Not that they should even get that close to begin with considering the soldier with the M60 in the construction lift (Which is incorrect because the US Army hasn't used that weapons platform since the 80s, it's the M240 now) would be able to easily take down most of the horde in front until he has to reload, which even then it won't be a problem because of the aforementioned easiness with shooting the ones that manage to get up close to the fence the reason the military trains to shoot at center mass is not because they're more effective than headshots, but because most engagements are going to be medium to long range, when we went to the range our targets were at least 25m out to 300m, hitting someone's head from even just 25m is hard because of how small it is especially if they're moving, even with Acogs which are the zoomed in versions of sights used on M4s currently, which also most soldiers in my unit only had CCOs (Close combat optics) with a red dot The biggest problem that could potentially happen is the soldiers simply run out of ammunition due to the sheer amount of undead they're facing, but also by the time that would happen reinforcements would almost certainly arrive to back them up, also with all conversations people have on this topic they assume only ground personnel and vehicles would engage the walkers, and not something such as an AC130 or Apache, which would absolutely tear through a horde with missiles and howitzer cannons, also unlike the ground units the undead have no hope of ever reaching them

(taking out deserters and those lost from firefights with armed criminals) now, lets say everything else is equal...how long can the military hold out against 50 million undead countrymen? 100 million? the current total US military is less then 5 million strong. so how well do you think you guys would hold up against those odds? how quickly would you burn through ammo and fuel?

Zulus are living people which means any vital organ hit can mean a kill....the undead dont give a shit unless the brain is turned to mush or the brainstem is blown out the back of the head. all other hits will only serve to cripple a zombie IF they even do that much. and as i said in my other comment. anything in the air has to come down sooner or later. and with no one running the factories, good luck getting any resupply for fuel.

The telltale series set in the same universe mentions a army base being abandoned save for infected and one survivor named Mark who was surviving off the commissary food.

Small groups at least can monitor their own constantly.

i hate how they show "the military got overrun" in zombie movies .Now if they are different kind of zombies like the mutations from Resident Evil or the fast zombies from World War Z i understand but there is no way in hell the military could get overrun by slow moving corpses
The RE games I think make a good case for how the military would get overun even with the Walker type zombies when you have other monsters and mutations stemmed from the T-Virus like Lickers or Hunters. Fast zombies make sense as well for obvious reasons such as the 28 Days/Weeks Later Rage Infectees or Dawn of the Dead 04's zombies
But yeah when its just walker type zombies, I'd imagine any military force while not easy, would at least make a substantial effort in zombie numbers
i love how they just stand there and wait for the zombies to kill them
Let's see...

It’s almost like the soldiers forgot to shoot for the head lol. You hate to see it.
@@agelessrebellion8271 okay so I was just in the Army, infantry to be specific, and I'm telling you right now that if myself or other people I know from my old unit filled up someone's body with shots and they don't go down you best believe I'm going for their head
Also yea sure that would be intimidating for the horde to be that close but considering the soldiers were about 10 feet away from the fence at most it'd be like shooting fish in a barrel, the fence only gave way due to them not being able to kill enough in time and having shit aim, not to mention how the zombies bodies would just start piling up in front of the fence and they'd have to start walking over top the piles
Not that they should even get that close to begin with considering the soldier with the M60 in the construction lift (Which is incorrect because the US Army hasn't used that weapons platform since the 80s, it's the M240 now) would be able to easily take down most of the horde in front until he has to reload, which even then it won't be a problem because of the aforementioned easiness with shooting the ones that manage to get up close to the fence
the reason the military trains to shoot at center mass is not because they're more effective than headshots, but because most engagements are going to be medium to long range, when we went to the range our targets were at least 25m out to 300m, hitting someone's head from even just 25m is hard because of how small it is especially if they're moving, even with Acogs which are the zoomed in versions of sights used on M4s currently, which also most soldiers in my unit only had CCOs (Close combat optics) with a red dot
The biggest problem that could potentially happen is the soldiers simply run out of ammunition due to the sheer amount of undead they're facing, but also by the time that would happen reinforcements would almost certainly arrive to back them up, also with all conversations people have on this topic they assume only ground personnel and vehicles would engage the walkers, and not something such as an AC130 or Apache, which would absolutely tear through a horde with missiles and howitzer cannons, also unlike the ground units the undead have no hope of ever reaching them
@@agelessrebellion8271 You expect me to believe the British that went against the Zulus can take on a horde with just single shot breech loaders can easily win but the US military with assault rifles, machine guns, AFVs, and helicopters would lose against mindless walking corpses that can walk as fast as a grandma with a walker and unable to think for themselves? No, it’s BS.
@@TheAnnoyedHumanist 1. never said that center mass shots were more effective. 2. its common knowledge as to why police, soldiers are trained to aim for center mass. heres the problem with using any sort of air support, tanks, ect. those rockets can tear up the body for sure. might even vaporize a few dozen. but unless the brain is completely severed (at least going by the walk dead survival guide as reference) then that zombie will still be a threat because it can still bite. so yeah, you can blow bits off, cut them in half or completely shred the body. but how many thousand rounds would you pour into a hoard of undead to immobilize them? not every round will be a headshot. so you can sit in that airplane.....waste a few thousand rounds and maybe cut a hoard of 10k down to 8k or at best 6k. but at the end of the day you wasted a lot of ammo during a time where there might not be a way to resupply. on top of that you are assuming the world would carry on as is. you get support when requested, plenty of resupply, plenty of ammo and every soldier mans their post instead of saying "fuck you, im protecting my wife and kids first, country second". in all likelihood none of that would happen. global panic, unrest, military assists pulled from defense to try and control the population while crime would spiral out of control...at some point you would get armed conflict between the criminals and those sent to maintain order. then you got those pulled away to insure the safety of the officials, bases ect. there would be a break down of society-if it got bad enough, no one would be manning the depos to get you more ammo-because guess what? its john public that manufactures and ships the shit. so if no one is working the factories, no one is working the shipping then nothing is getting out of port or warehouse. so you aint got a way to restock fuel reserves, or ammo reserves. you might not have reliable reinforcement either due to location or availability. you are right about one thing, the dead cant reach airsupport....but at some point that air support has to come back down. now lets put a number to all this....since you say you are in the military and got all this education- how long can the US military hold out at..lets be nice and say be 80% combat effective for all branches, nationwide.
@@imgvillasrc1608 problem with assault rifles is dumbasses going full auto...which does nothing but make noise and waste ammo when the only kill shot, is a clean headshot. and as i may have mentioned before, you got a crowd of undead and your sitting behind an MG. yeah you go right on ahead and hold down that trigger. no trigger discipline means you waste more ammo then the dumbass with a assault rifle. but what people dont realize is even if you dont do that, people are different heights...so training that MG at one undead head level and sweeping over a crowd might kill a fourth of them if you are lucky...meanwhile you are overshooting shorter targets and undershooting taller ones. plus MGs are for suppression...thats their function. not quite the same as an assault rifle.
No one talking about the duo shield guys dying instantly xd
The walkers definitely would’ve taken over the military base but not as fast as it shows they could’ve took out a huge chunk
All actuality even with a standard outpost with of equipment they could easily handle it there was only about 300 walkers. 3000 would be worse but still a decent chance. Zombies are still so slow they easily could have propped more barriers up before Fences were down
@@thesovietvorona1007they don’t even need soldier in the battle field just lunch a fking horde of middle and holopoint drone back up with support helicopters
@@thesovietvorona1007they are trained to hit the main body tho
Has guns, gets into close combat. Smart.
What I could never understand is how in the hell are the military in TWD universe capable of being this useless?
Oh hell, even some of the common folks? I understand panic and such, but in places like America and such, you would’ve assumed there’s still plenty of people with guns that is going around and don’t mind killing them.
Yeah but I imagine in the beginning people were probably fighting and killing each other as much as the walkers remember everyone's already infected so if they die they become a walker so say someone just happens to die from a heart attack and comes back people are going to assume that everyone is threat to them and lying about being infected
Also due to even more budget cuts they couldn’t afford juggernauts or attack helicopters😂😂
Asshole Soldier: Don't make me shoot you.
Flashlight Guy: You should save your ammo.
[Horde of undead emerge from nowhere]
Are you telling me that the soldiers, having high-powered weapons, were not able to wipe out the hordes within 5 meters of them? Hell, they should go check their eyes!
What I find stupid about this scene, is why did they only have that one guard tower? They could have had multiple elevated positions around the base.
"IT WAS THE GUN!" - soldier 1
Really the M-60 didn't make any damage? Bro that m60 is enough to wiped those slow moving walkers
That old man is the smartest man alive in twd.
The power of a horde on display and this is one of my most favorite scenes as well as Daniel just strolling by all smiles before walking away peacefully 😂😂
this scene doesn't show the power of a zombie horde, it shows the incompetence of this world's military
the two soldiers who are pushing the zombie with the shields back are the olny smart soldier in this entire base
2:33 bro what was this scene💀😭
Most likely he knew he would’ve become infected and instead of slowly turning he decided to cut his head so he dosent turn and kill the rest of his pals
@@JustT123Just use the gun
@@AnakinSkywalker283 everyone got their own way of taking the easy way out I guess lol
"No he's infected, leave him" and then he just walks into the helicopters blades
Gotta remember there was also lots of military that sheltered out from the walkers and ditched operation cobalt one they found out it failed twd is in a universe that the idea of zombies never existed if it was like today the military would smoke em cuz they would know to aim for the head
They knew absolutely everything about walkers. You tell me that the police forces of that city knew exactly where to shoot and that they surely knew one hundred percent what was happening and they did not pass any type of information to the government or the national guard? I would believe you if they were an isolated squad or section, but wouldn't a damn base of operations where they are analyzing and carrying out experiments on people under the express orders of some idiot general or some son of a bitch politician know that? Doesn't that seem strange to you?
Not knowing zombies is onyl true in the TV timeline. Comics timeline has the term used.
