I had a friend who emigrated to Australia on the strength of his Trade he was a plumber, proper time served had and completed his NVQ exams nothing shonky about his apprenticeship in any way, had all his interviews in London, showed all his evidence, and he was accepted as someone who can emigrate with his wife and 3 kids to Australia, when he got here they wouldn't recognise his trade papers and had to retrain at college for 12 months before he could get his license, kucky his wife was a reg nurse and could work.

Strangely enough, I don’t think they mention that you have to undergo a new exam and training in Oz.
Apparently, this is required to ensure new sparks are compliant with Australian Regulations.
I was informed of this when I applied in 2014. It’s Oz’s way of earning additional costs out of newbies

Many of the jobs are fly-in fly-out jobs in the mining industry (mostly iron ore open cast mines) and involve working on heavy industrial equipment often operating at high voltage. Many mines also have their own power stations.

Spent 21 years as a spark/instrument mechanic in Australia. Awesome place but make no mistake you still have to work for your crust of bread and when it’s 48 degrees in the shade it’s hard graft, but the rewards are great. Now back in the UK due to family ties.
High voltage, instrumentation and heavy duty LV are the main stay of the mining sector and the pay is fantastic.
There may be a skills shortage over here then which I hope will be good news for me.

It was a ring circuit on a 45A circuit breaker, no RCD protection and was already a spur... People think electrical work is just live to live, neutral to neutral, earth to meh who needs that..

My very FIRST question, is why would so many want to leave? Easy really, Australia as a country is better run and employers pay better wages, together with the availability of housing and better health care (here its been unfounded for decades) The UK suffers very badly from the cheap labour syndrome, where immigrants are preferred over local labour- cheapness again. If I was young, after what ive seen over the years in our 'trade' I would go in a flash. I used to work freelance as a commercial tech. spark
