Here under 7,000 subs. You’re doing great. NEVER change your style, tone, editing or ANYTHING to get more views. What a great channel. Happy my photography algorithm brought me here.
The camera software does it. He takes a number of shots. The camera adjusts focus in tiny increments. Then the software blends the many shots together keying on the many focus points. I believe he is doing this in camera with a new model. … One can also do this back at home at the desktop with software.
Most likely using "focus bracketing". Some newer cameras have a setting that automatically adjusts the focus by small increments. Not many right now have it purely internal to the camera, for most it's still an external function often run by a PC.
His lens doesn't have autofocus and he changes focus by moving the camera closer while shooting burst mode. I use an a7rii. Very slow burst so I can't really do it well but I have gotten some incredible macro shots this way. Then after that it's got to be stack in photoshop. That has many tutorials on TH-cam. Just search for photo stacking in photoshop.
@@RonaldPlett The issue with moving the camera like that is that as you move it you wind up with slightly different perspectives and a slightly different field of view.. I've done that too (with my old Nikon D600, my a7II, my a7III, and my a6500), but the results are extremely variable.
I'm so impressed that you are getting hand held stacks with the Laowa 25mm. I rarely take mine out in the field because it's so hard to hand hold and usually use it inside on the rail. You've inspired me to have another go with it once we start getting into spring.
You're the first time I instantly subscribed to a channel after watching the first video. Superb macro shots, high quality video film and editing, everything is great, even the way you approached the mic problem! You're a natural, keep up the good work 👍🏻💪🏻
Your macro photos are not only interesting and beautiful but nice and sharp! And at f4 (stacked) I am learning to shoot macro on a 100mm canon lens and with or without stacking I must shoot above f8 especially without a speed light since the depth of field on this lens is very shallow! Keep up the good work I will follow you for inspiration📷
It's so great to see someone doing more "in the field" videos as opposed to endless lens reviews at a desk. Your videos are so much more motivating to get out and shoot. It would be cool to hear about your settings sometimes magnification level, aperture. Especially with things like slime molds and springtails. I had that laowa lens with my R6, but got rid of it when I went to om system. So now I find myself trying to create those magnification levels with a raynox and/or telconverter. Thanks for the videos!
Yes, would love a video on your technique for handheld photo stack with the Laowa 25mm ultra macro. I still somewhat of a novice to macros. I have the same lens and trying to improve my macros.
You mentioned the side lighting from your diffuser when shooting verticals. This seems to trouble very few people but it has caused me to try several designs for homemade diffusers that work equally well for verticals and horizontals. All have been failures to some degree even if a bit better than the standard diffuser type. I guess there is no market for this and many willing to buy those hoods. Good video.
I much prefer videos that emphasize images over gear. Nicely done, with spectacular examples. Thanks for sharing. You inspire me to do more macro work.
Very pleasant to watch and beautiful pictures as usual. Your hand-held technique is remarkable. Maybe you could tell us more about it in one of your next video. That would be great to hear from on how you get prepared and how you control the camera movement with such a high magnification And what about your flash management ? Keep up the good work Alexis, you are talented !
Applause for knowing and providing the names (common and latin) for your subjects. This places you WAY ahead of the many other photogs who can make pretty pictures. Applause!
Very nice video and photos. Just found your channel, looking forward to more videos! Spring seems to have come pretty far where you live, may I ask what country/region this is?
Thanks Micael, you were a big inspiration for me getting into macro around 5 years ago and now for starting on TH-cam :) I'm in Germany, generally these flower species appear around the end of February here and it will take a few more weeks for more insects to start being active, currently most of what I can find is on dead wood.
Happy to hear my channel inspired you! With this video you have inspired me to start looking under bark of dead trees. Maybe I can find some tiny creatures :) we have just gotten the white snow drop flowers here in Sweden.
Really impressive images and technique and great presentation. As stated by many a walk through tutorial on your stacking and maybe one on your edits would be great. Thanks for sharing.
Just discovered your channel! Love your content. Your pictures are ethereal. I’d love to see an episode on handheld focus stacking. You seem to be a pro at it. Just subbed!
Thank you TH-cam algorithm. What a lovely channel you have created Alexis. Your pleasant demeanour and photography skills got you one more sub. Keep up the great work. From the the U.K.
Loving your videos Alexis. I’m considering delving into extreme macro photography and I’m finding your videos very inspirational. Obviously ultra macro with this type of lens is extremely challenging but you make it look simple!
Beautiful work dude… I grew up with a father who has his phd in entomology- it’s really nice to see other people who are interested in bugs the same way he is
Many newer mirrorless cameras have built in focus bracketing or focus stacking, but those features only work using autofocus lenses. My lenses are manual focus only so I stack manually by shooting in burst mode and changing focus manually by moving the camera.
Really inspiring work! I'm not even in the field of macro photography but I do have an old Canon FD 70-210 f/4 that has a Macro function on it, possibly not true macro but I'll give it a try on my local forest just like you do 👍 greetings from the south of Chile!
Man, I kinda forgot how much I enjoy pottering around in the woods on my own taking photos of cool stuff, this video is so beautiful and peaceful. I love insects and can't believe the shots you're getting out there in the field on such a simple rig, plus those shots of the slime moulds are just beautiful.
You are a macro shooting Beast! Subscribed. I’d be interested if you wanted to share your journey because, to be honest, you’re operating at a level orders of magnitude beyond what I can identify with. Evolution of motivation, gear, techniques, mistakes made and milestones achieved. Help me understand how you got here & where you’re interested in going-or not. I’ll be here for the ride either way.
I shoot in 10fps or 15fps burst mode and slowly move the camera forward to adjust focus while shooting. Many cameras support built in focus stacking/focus bracketing but autofocus lens is necessary to use those features, and they are often disabled when using a flash
@@naturefold My camera has this mode, but it's useless. It only uses an electronic shutter, which is not very developed in my camera and most likely will not work well with flash. And it’s also difficult to predict autofocus shift at different magnifications. I didn't try to shoot macro with it, just landscape. And this also makes no sense. As I said, the electronic shutter is not very developed, so I get some strange 12-bit artifacts and a weak dynamic range... It's like I'm going back 14 years to my old DSLR image quality. So it almost always makes more sense to do it manually.
Hey Alexis, I just wanted to say that I love your videos, the pictures you take, the information you give about the subjects and the knowledge you convey. Keep up the good work! I'm just starting to take macro photos and I'm still using my Canon RF 85mm/f2 lens I already had for travel and portraits, so I'm still photographing flowers and funghi, because insects are to small for my equipment, but your videos and pictures made me want to dive deeper in macro photography. I hope that there will be an ultra macro lens with AF for the RF-mount soon, so I can use the focus stacking mode on my camera...
Thanks! Yeah an AF ultra macro for RF mount (or any mount really, I believe the m.zuiko 90mm is currently the only af macro going to 2x), although currently the RF 100mm seems like a pretty good option
Hi, just come across your channel, very impressed with your narrative and knowledge of your subject hope you continue with this first rate work. Result one new subscriber. 👍
i like your work but can you tell me what camera and flash you use, as i went out and bought a camera that did the photo stacking and flash but the flash did not work when the camera did the photos. could you be so kind as to let me know what camera you use and speedlite thank you and keep the videos coming kind regards Marilyn
Ok I want to learn how to shoot like this, so amazing !!!!! I am using a Canon 6D Mark II and the Canon 100mm macro lens, what do I need to get to capture similar those beautiful shots you show do I need a Laowa Lens ?
how/what do you use to do you do the focus stacking? Till now I only shooted single photos but I wanted to get into the focus stacking, and I'm looking for tips. Btw, great video!
Using a flash basically eliminates the issue of motion blur, the main challenge is just keeping steady enough that the angle doesn't change too much between shots.
Great content Alexis, Thank you from sharing ! Very inspirational. I registered immediately. (got to learn about "stacking" now, hope that you have a video that explains)
This is so cool. How would you recommend getting into this type of thing? Equipment wise, at least. I've always been fascinated by the world of insects and other micro organisms, ever since I was a kid, it's never gone away. I have kept a fair share of ants and other critters, but the best I could do in terms of photography was a little USB microscope still wasn't even clear enough for me to classify them properly.
Here under 7,000 subs. You’re doing great. NEVER change your style, tone, editing or ANYTHING to get more views. What a great channel. Happy my photography algorithm brought me here.
Awesome work. You make it look so easy. Could you maybe do a tutorial on how you shoot your photo stacks.
I'd be very interested aswell, I've not heard that term. But I am rather digital photography illiterate lol
