Let's take that tag line: Create your own fun. That's something someone would tell you to describe how to get into a pen and paper rpg (D&D, Deathwatch, Rogue Trader, Edge of the Empire, etc.). But the difference is that in those pen and paper rpgs, you have a plethora of different stuff to do, you just have to either try to look for thing and throw your Game Master a bone, or step in and pretend that while trying to flirt with that peasant lass you learn that something has been killing her livestocks, or if you play a merchant crew in a sci-fi setting, you are a trying to avoid bankruptcy but the only way to get your cargo to the market in time is to gamble by going into that uncharted nebula full of aliens and pirates. So yes, you can have people create their own fun, but they need to have the tools to do it as well as being given the opportunities to do so. A game like SoT gives you all the opportunities you need, but doesn't give you any of the tools needed to really get creative because they aren't there. At the same time, a pen and paper rpg gives you all, and I mean all the tools you could dream to get creative, but if you have a bad Game Master that thinks he has come up with this amazing adventure and doesn't let the players explore or do anything that isn't approved or decided by him, then you simply don't get any opportunities to use those tools. Tools and opportunities, this is what game developers working on stuff like SoT need to get both right, not one or the other, but both those things into the very core of the game.
I can tell you several things. 1. PvP can be made easier by just a simple Tag that highlights your ship. A "Swashbuckling" tag lets people know you are looking for a fight, and someone can also throw a "Swashbuckling" tag showing a mutually agreed PvP show down. 2. PvP Privater Guilds. And you don't need fully fleshed out factions like Horde and Alliance. You can just make diffrent colored flags like Pokemon Go. Have people select their color then beat up on all other colors. 3. Shipwrights and a way to save customized ships. They can also double as turn in points for ships that are captured. Also need more ships are needed. Even rowboat with a cannon, or heck a barrel with an oar would improve the game. 4. Some sort of lower flag and raise your own ship capture system. Capture enemy ship, stop the spawns. Make them spawn a new ship and take your prize to the Shipwright for Rep, Xp and Gold. 5. A race type PvP quest can help if you get tired of sinking each others ship. 6. Improve the combat system, add sail damage (and fire maybe) to ships. Also add a powder load to the cannons so it is a 3 step processes. Load powder, load shot, FIRE. Also different types of shots would be nice. You got chain shot for the aforementioned sail damage. Grape shot which is multiple balls but shorter range. And Canister shot which is a blunderbuss on Steroids. 7. Improve the player to player combat as well. Have ropes from the mast to swing down to deck or onto enemy ships (instead of a lame sword charge bug). Also vary the load out with melee and ranged combos. Along with a rifle you can have one with a bayonet instead of a scope. Got some melee ability as well as range even though the sharpshooter is king at range. Make range weapons do more damage but take longer to reload so you are forced to mix up range and melee attacks. You can have a brace of pistols (or make that three braces) so you can do the 6 guns thing with 6 shots but a lot of reloading. Need a better balance a Dueler's combo of a Pistol and a Saber so you have a range attack along with melee. OR you can go all melee without a blunderbus by a Drunken Brawler with a covered grogg tankard (to keep the rum in while swimming, and a cutlass. You drink you swing your cutlass wildly with drunken strength, you may not have a ranged weapon but if you drink enough you can vomit on enemies.
I love when a game gets everyone so hyped and then is a HUUUUUGE disappointment. When will gamers learn to wait for reviews? Honest reviews from people who actually bought the game and not given codes. You'll have to wait at least a week but at least it's an honest review. I no longer buy games day one at launch. My gaming experience has greatly improved since I started this practice.
"PvP can be made easier by just a simple Tag that highlights your ship. A "Swashbuckling" tag lets people know you are looking for a fight, and someone can also throw a "Swashbuckling" tag showing a mutually agreed PvP show down." People who suggest separate PvP areas really don't get what this game is about. Unlike what Act Man said, because he doesn't understand the game, the RISK comes from carrying treasures on your ship and having the possibility of being attacked at any time. After you finish a few missions you start getting paranoid, looking around for other ships, etc. The REWARD for attackers is the loot. You are a pirate, why would a pirate attack another ship? In order to steal stuff. I think this game caused a glitch in people's brains and they can't get out of it. Removing PIRACY from a pirate game is like removing CARS from a Forza.
Bryan Pate Video games became more mainstream so companies cared more about money than the actual game, hence why there is half assed games riddled with microtransactions and little to no content at launch(so they could rip off more people with half assed expansions)
@@scardor2630 i mean theres a lot of content compared to launch tho. You have tall tales which is a story and you got the world events which also have lore n story built into the flame heart ones. The game is a lot more fun now thats for sure and its only gonna be better with this new update which looks to be the biggest update in SoT.
The Act Man Hello Mr. Man. I have Sea of Thieves just like you. I don’t agree with your opinion, but I respect your criticism of it. This game is mostly based off of experiences with your friends. The content shown off at all the different conventions was exactly what we got. We weren’t told this would be an epic collection of awesomeness by Microsoft, (Cough Cough, EA Battlefront 2) We weren’t told we would get an insane campaign with awesome characters and amazing 4K balls to the walls graphics. As I said this is a game built of of experiences with friends. Again I really like your videos and I respect your criticism. You critique a game because you love a game. I think Sea of Thieves is awesome and I have fun with my friends. I’m sorry you don’t like the game, but that’s totally fine with me. Keep up the great vids. Also I agree that this game should be at least $20 or less. Bye
The Act Man Another thing, if the game had a progression system like customizing your ship and let’s say increase the damage of cannons or increase the durability of your ship would break the pvp. It’s always online and new people are always joining. If the customization was in the game and if the game is mostly online, we would have EA’s garbage fire known as Battlefront 2 all over again. Noobs would get destroyed by players who have all the customization they want. Granted this is acceptable is certain games (Halo Reach, Call of Duty, Injustice etc) but it simply isn’t meant for Sea of Thieves. Nice video though
AC: Black Flag is literally the only game that comes to mind when someone mentions a good pirate game. It nails the open seas and freedom feel people want when playing a pirate video game. I personally have never played Sea Of Thieves so maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. As always great video Act Man
It’s sad cause it got better after release (anniversary update and season 1-5), I’d say up to 2022 when it was in its prime after that the game died because of things like a 9 month season and now it’s truly boring
It didn't get better after launch lol They added a bunch of stuff, but the game is the same as it ever was Sea of Thieves is a game for people that like skins more than gameplay If that's your bag, cool. But don't try to make it out to be more than it is It's still just fetch quests for cosmetics

When No Man's Sky has more content than your game, you know you fucked up. Pirates are underutilized in games just in general. There are hardly any pirate games, hell there are barely any pirate themed levels or worlds in games. Like Sly 3 had a pirate chapter and it was great, but that's like the only game that has a pirate chapter that I can think of.
The Red Guy What abouy Assassin's Creed 4? That game was entirely focused around pirates. And it's not like it wasn't a well known game lmao EDIT: Just re read your comment and realized you said "pirate chapters" not "pirate games" my bad.
On one hand I'm like "Wow, you're a real piece of shit for griefing people" and on the other I'm like "Well, if the game had better, more rewarding shit to do maybe people wouldn't resort to that kind of behavior to enjoy it." Regardless, I didn't get suckered into buying the game, so it's whatever to me.
Megaton Aaron if it makes you feel any better I've met one crew in 4 weeks of consistent playing that didn't attack on sight to grief. Like you said, there's little to do so it really is just a griefing simulator, the gold is useless and you respawn ready and stocked to grief some more. Zero consequences for fucking with people, zero for getting fucked with
In Kindergarden when waiting for my parents to drop me off I would play this game. It still holds up with a van full of Nostalgia being towed right behind.
Idk, his idea of game progression is something that should be its own game mode in order to be good. It seems that this game isn't for him, and he likes skill trees, purchasable upgrades and such. He forgets to look at it from the other side of the coin, and fails to realize that this way, the game is balanced. Everyone has access to the same package of rules and constraints and its just up to the player, how well can they navigate through these constraints. I think that the game execution was done correctly, and gets better over time, though, I must admit, i am scared of the next update with the flamethrower skull.
Well, yeah I was skeptical about the whole progression thing and if the game would even be any fun at all before I bought it, but I can say it’s good fun, especially with friends. But I guess the game just isn’t for everyone. Only bought it when it came to Steam btw, so can’t say anything about the game when it first launched, but I think the game right now is in a pretty good state and the devs come out with new content pretty much every month so that’s not bad. I suggest people do some research about the game first before buying.
@@renzobuenagua6590 I play it with three of my mates as a crew. It's just a brilliant game to have fun and mess around. We do the tall tales which are quality but generally it's a good laugh. Not a game to take seriously imo and defintiely not one to play on your own

What really sucks is that high speed internet isn’t completely widespread yet; people who don’t have fast internet connections are left in the dust of video games that employ online-only features. They buy a physical copy of a disc, but are locked out of half of the game’s content over time.
@@mikemarks6136 As someone from a rich country, I only got decent internet last year. Before, I only had 5 Mb download. There are still many people less lucky than me here.
If you look into the real history of the 17th century Caribbean, you may just freak out about how it's different from what you expect, but also at the same time, just as you expect, except cooler. There really were different pirate factions, for instance. In addition to the privateers sailing under Letters of Marque (like Henry Morgan), different pirate cities grew up like Nassau in the Bahamas, Barbocan (now Tampa Bay) and Key West in Florida, and Isla de Tortuga in Hispaniola. The "true" pirates' favorite loot? Clothes and medicine, seriously.
I absolutely love that opening. Drunken Sailor is one of my favorite Sea shanties. I liked the game, but it was barren. Thanks for another good review.
Thank you for the Love, Act Man. ♥️ Play with your crew and see how much fun you can have being pirates together. Gameplay may be flawed, but your company should be flawless.
Hey Act Man! First of all I got to say that I love your videos and the level of detail and work you put into them is so much fun to watch. Four years ago I remember watching this video and completely agreeing with your analysis of Sea of Thieves I had bought it very close to release and came to many of the same conclusions as you; a barebones game with three types of the same content. I think my love for pirate games blinded me to it however and I for some reason stuck with it to watch it grow for the next four years and looking at the game as it is now I am really happy to say that so much of what we both wished this game is now in full effect and is awesome. Below I would like to bring up all of the different ways this game has improved and is now truly the best pirate game out there. 4:17 The Gameplay Loop of Sea of Thieves While the gameplay loop at its core could still be considered taking an item from point a to point b, it has been expanded upon so intensively that you never really focus on it. One of the big ways they did this was by adding more places to take new and different items. In addition to the original outposts there is now an extra outpost in a new location called the Devils Roar which features an active volcano on the island, two sea posts per biome (totaling 8) which each have a shopkeeper selling discounted items and a fishermen for the Hunters Call for selling fish (more on them later). There are also completely new gameplay loops through a three sets of story based quests, one of which is partnered with the Pirates of The Caribbean and a PvP focused game mode for instant combat action. 6:30 Incentive to Keep Playing and 7:57 The Three Main Factions Interestingly Sea of Thieves has stuck to a cosmetic only progression system, however there are many new types of ways to earn these items and often times are fun on their own even without a reward. As the game stands there are also seasonal battel passes, 8 experience based factions and 2 based on exploration and world challenges. Here's a brief breakdown of those factions: Tall Tales: The "Story Mode" of the game, it features an adventure to reach the Shores of Gold, an on going story on the return of Captain Flameheart, and the Pirates Life story which encompasses a story on freeing Jack Sparrow from the Ferryman's ship and helping him retrieve a world traveling trinket. Interestingly the story is cannon in both universes. Bilge Rats: The Bilge Rats focus on completing world bases challenges for a secondary type of currency. Examples of such are burning a certain amount of skeleton ships with an Ashen Winds Skull (a skull dropped from a boss which can act as a flame thrower) or sitting in all of the thrones placed across the map in difficult areas to get to. Gold Hoarders: The Gold Hoarders still give out x marks the spot quests and riddle quests but they also have vault quests now. Vault quests have you uncover a key to an underground vault that is filled with treasure. When you enter the vault you are on a time limit before the door closes behind you and the room fills with water. Order of Souls: They still give out bounty quests but they also give similar bounty quests for fighting naval battles with AI ships. Merchant Alliance: The Merchants have had a very large overhaul. They still have the animal crate quests but on top of that they have three new forms of quests. Cargo runs have you taking crates with special conditions like plants that must be watered or bottles that are very fragile from one sea post or outpost to another in the best condition possible. The second new quest are lost shipment voyages in which you have to track down a shipwreck using clues from the recovered log book of the ship. The last quest is a new crate system in which every outpost is in need of one type of crate and has a large amount of another. By buying the surplus and selling it to outposts in need you can make the maximum profit. Hunters Call: The Hunters Call are for everything fish related, they are only located at sea posts and reward you for fishing and can pay very well for rare fish like those that can only be caught in a storm or near a shipwreck. They also pay more for cooking the fish for them on your boats stove or at a sea forts stove (more on sea forts and world events later). The Reapers: The Reapers have no quests because they are completely focused on PvP. The reapers feed off of the emissary system in which players of the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, Merchant Alliance, or Athena's fortune can raise an emissary flag to gain increased rewards on their quests. The reapers hunt these players and sink ships for stolen loot and broken emissary flags which they sell to their own hideout away from the outposts. Athena's Fortune: After reaching level 50 in any three of the experience based factions you become a pirate legend and gain access to Athena's Fortune quests. They offer quests that are somewhat of a challenge mode that contain a mix of many factions quests and also offer their own forms of quests like a voyage for ancient artifacts requiring good map knowledge and puzzle skills. While Sea of Thieves has no end game really, this would be considered the next level up from doing the normal factions. Oh wow I hit the limit for a TH-cam comment lol. well for the other two factions and the rest of the game you'll just have to see for yourself, but as for the original video I made this comment because it has become somewhat outdated and I think that everyone should give it a shot again because it is truly a great experience now and goes on sale on steam a lot too.
yep somebody who left rare said they spent 3 years designing the boat and that a lot of the design team ( who did a superb job making the game look nice ) raised concerns about how repetitive and boring the game loop was.
The game still sucks. Its as boring as it ever has been. There is no incentive in playing, you only play to get money to buy cosmetics. Not to mention there is only 3 types of guns. Its still boring imo
@@sparky7523 i don’t think you are totally right. You can have your own opinion of course. But for me, this game is really about the encounters, the cinematic fights. And stealing someones loot, or defending your own. You can level up to become pirate legend and unlock athenas fortune. You can level up individual factions to unlock more diverse, diffcult and profitable quests.
85% of the experience of this game for me was getting drunk with my friends then voting someone in the rig puking on them and playing instruments the other 15% was just sailing around to do quests so boring
May I recommend Deep Rock Galactic? You can get drunk and pass out drinking beers that make you rocket all over the room or teleport out into space. But then when you had enough drinking you have an amazing co-op first person shooter with *gasp* content.
I had two instances where i had soo much fun in this game.. first was discovering that you can get drunk.. i had soo much laugh with my friend when we played instruments while drunk and puking.. second was discovering other player ship and doing pvp with them.. it was fun at the start, we kill them and take their chests while they keep coming back.. and then it turned into griefing lol.. we griefed them and then they also had a chance to grief us.. it was fun tbh.. but then that was our first day of playing.. the second day wasnt that much exciting.. we didnt have fun at all.. just sailing around killing npc.. getting chests felt like a chore on our second day.. after that we never played SoT again lol
@@ShaggyDabbyDank Eh, how? With the huge variety of mission types and bonus objectives Deep Rock has, I fail to see how "get chest", "shoot other ship", and "walk through story level" constitutes "more content".

coming here 5 years since the game's release, there's definitelly more content, and more variety, but it is still a very passive game. Personally I hate that there are no dedicated PvE servers and content, which is apparently a taboo to say in any regards to Sea of Thieves, because god forbid I wanted to spend my time in a game without worrying about some bunnyhopping clown quick-scope me at point blank wihile also managing to put all of the shotgun pellets in my face, and thus rendering any tasks I did for that session moot. The visuals are beautiful, and I can't praise the art team enough, but it seems like mechanically it has not evolved one bit. Combat is still just as broken as it was 2 years ago, weapon variety is only in the skins, for the 4 that exist, and often the spawns of the PvE enemies are some unbalanced shit, in the worst way possible. They've created more enemies to spawn, but me and a few friends discussed how it would be a noteworthy mechanic for the ghosts, the crab-folk and the skeletons to be different "enemy" factions on different islands, that shift around, not just entries in a unified spawn pool. This could also play into diversifying how you approach events, or islands. Say you have a mission on an island, but it's infested with the crabs. to clear the spawns and not have to fight them, find the sunken mermaid curse statue, and destroy it. To stop skeletons spawning, maybe you have to find and defeat the skeleton captain on the island, etc etc. There's a lot of possibly enjoyable potential in this game, for good pirate PvE, and the game world sort of already facilitates that, but more often than not, a random player crew will sail up, and without any communication (or if you're unlucky, throwing slurs and insults) just sink you, making any progress you've made completely disappear. And with the emissaries encouraging longer play on tasks, before handing them in, that can quite quickly build up resentment. But now that I've said all that, I await the torches and the pitchforks from the "Real" Sea of Thieves players, and them to spam "git gud" and "Sea of *Thieves*, not Sea of Friends" at me.
I completely respect your opinion on the PVE server but do not agree with it. I think that one of the things that makes sea of thieves such a unique game is the balance it has of PVP and PVE. You can go around and do PVE events and theoretically never run into another player. The thing is their is always a chance of that PVE situation turning into a PVP or PVPVE situation depending on what happens. I feel like if you got rid of this dynamic, of being able to do your own thing, but always have an eye on the horizon for potential threats, you he game would become boring. Honestly, the PVE by itself is relatively easy and if you where only doing PVE, would trivialize the process, and what is a reward without a little risk. I can understand coming across a sweat and being destroyed. I have been playing since anniversary update and I still get steamrolled all the time, you just got to try and learn from that experience and have fun. Sorry some people have tried to make you and your opinion invalidated by screaming get gud and skill issue but overall they are mainly trolls. No reason people can’t have a discussion about whether a game mechanic should be added or not. I do agree with about everything in the second paragraph though, I think the game is also beautiful and rotating enemie spawns and “clearing” an item could potential work very well. Hit reg is still a major issue but hopefully they are changing how hits are detected in the future which could help. I also think some new utility weapons could work, maybe not a whole new gun or sword, but maybe something small, like a throwing axe or boarding knives. Something to change up how people interact with the combat while still being fundamentally the same. I hope you have wind in your sails the next time you play.
@@netherwarrior6113 Nice to see some understanding, and if I step back from the salt, that I have regarding PvP, yeah, in of itself it is a decent mechanic. sadly it's, in my opinion, dragged down into the deepest pits of salt, all because of a plethora of unlucky encounters. I do admit that the ship to ship combat is fun, I just don't particularly enjoy how boarding works out, and also people spawncamping. I did make a reddit post a good while ago, that maybe a strongbox on the ship would be worthwhile, where you can hide 2-4 items, that persist after death/sinking. That would slightly mitigate the salt at losing hours and hours of progress. Sure most would just hide 4 chests of legends (or an equivalent), but if you already factor in the amount of loot lost, as well as the emissary status being lost, the "safety net" of having at least something to show for hours of play would possibly make me less bitter about engaging other ships.
You are right. It deserves so much more hate than this. I haven't had ANY fun in the game past the 3/4 first hours, personally - and I have been playing with friends. If that is what I get from a 70$ game today, I'd rather get back to DnD.
@@StevenT-sb2qt you must not be the sharpest knife in the drawer. Did you just say the game is getting FREE updates, are you that dense? King Edward "Longshanks" I, Hammer of the Scots, Lord of Wales and King of England look into skull and bones. The ac black flag guys took the ship parts of the game and are making into one giant game
Even after the updates, the game is still pretty boring. The main issue is there's really no point to the game since there is no progression system or leveling system. You can die and it doesn't really matter. You can get loot and it really doesn't matter. Imo, the best thing is to troll in that game which is frowned upon. If they had some type of leveling system with bonus attachments, upgrades, etc, the game would be legit. The devs are worried that new players would be at an unfair advantage, but sometimes, you never come across other ships/players in a match.
Literally. Even if they added progression though, the core gameplay is so boring. The combat is not fun or satisfying or interactive. Melee combat is legit just left clicking each other like in minecraft.
I don't even have a problem with games having dlc and additional content in updates, but I find it utterly disgusting when a game releases, and expects me, to wait for updates and paid dlc, to have content. One of my friends wants to buy the game, and I've warned him about the fact, that this game is about 7,3% of what it should be, and I will not buy it to play it together, because that 7,3% is just graphics and a repedetive loop that gets old so fucking fast, it kills me.
This is a game where actually being a pirate is just considered a jerk move, as it's better to just do some missions for the factions. IN THE GAME, IT'S A JERK MOVE TO BE A PIRATE.

Unless you really like the ship PvP, do not buy it. Even then you have to have your own crew for it to be enjoyable. They also put stories into them, but who cares about a story in a game like this? Their dev team is the most bizzare thing I have ever seen. They never add something entirely new, they just keep adding more of the same shit that's already in the game.

I just follow The Act Man for some Month, after watch so many of his video like about Halo, Star Wars Battlefront 2 (old & new), KOTOR, ... I already know he not like this game, but i didn't know he love Pirate game, so kinda feel bad for him, because he made this video
I think it’s safe to say that I lot of what The Act Man wanted to happen happened in one way or another, so I agree with some other comments that he should do another review on Sea of Thieves. Love the content nonetheless!
I remember him saying the Pirates of the Caribbean update, when that trailer dropped, looked cool to him and that he was interested in it. I wonder if he ever played it.
Yeah, there wasn’t much content when Sea Of Thieves released. It’s just one of the games that was released too early. But now the developers are working their asses off to make the game better. The game gets a new update every month. They added a new boss, new ship, new skeleton ships, new map area, new gamemode, new ship parts, new islands, new campain mode etc. I can go on forever, because the game has changed so much. Please, try the game one more time. Edit: You can't complain about the game if you haven't played for a couple hours, I've been playing for almost 2 years and I don't get bored. I'm a used car salesman and I've got the perfect car for people like you. Great price, low mileage and 3 year warranty for only $2,500. Now... The car comes without an engine...or wheels BUT these will come in a few months. Will you be paying by cash or credit?
would be cool if it had ports, shops that sold different weapons, say you started with only the cutlass, could add cannons, chain shot, swivels, upgrade your ship, would need to buy compasses, maps, hoard loot in your ship, have someone else be able to steal it, to protect it like a pirate you bury it in a faraway island, mark it on a map, keep the map on the ship, have someone attack you on your ship, take your map, find your treasure as you scramble to get another map to get back to your loot to protect it in a dinghy boat, that'd be so cool. AI opponents, ect.
I would love harpoons so that you could reel in other ships, going across the lines or bringing them in close enough to board or rope swing across. Gun reloads should be much longer and sword combat fleshed out to be more integral to gameplay. Destroyed ships should stay spawned in for looting, while some should be lost to better reward boarding. Pirate guilds should be implemented. They would also be able to take control of limited-time randomly spawning resource islands where those in control get a continuous stream of income and can build destructible bases with cannons and AIs to defend them that cost money. Money could also be revamped to include buying resources. A base 25% of capacity should be replenished after some time out of combat while the rest is either found or bought at merchants. Special, more expensive, very limited capacity items like grenades should be buyable. General player and gun upgrades should also be implemented, although they should be very expensive and only give, at maximum, 30% increases for balanced multiplayer.
Teal Thats a pretty damn good idea havent even thought of that and I have a LOT of ideas for Sea of Thieves... I efin LOVE pirates and its a shame that this game didn't fulfill it's potential as deserved, lets hope for updates or even a sequel that will.
Woah, woah, woah that's a little too creative there buddy. Way too many interesting mechanics. Surely you'd rather have some new cosmetics. Yeah, that's what you're saying essentially, you want more cosmetics right? How about some new cosmetics?
Dubrey Galigly, I would love some more cosmetics! Perhaps some glowy neon stuff and a bunch of other outfits referencing other games? How about a clothing maker that gives you the ability make custom outfits with different materials and extrusion of different pieces any way you want?
AC4 and Rogue aren't pirate games and they get too repetitive too quick. Skull and bones its an even worse pirate game, its just Call of Duty on ships, theres no piracy whatsoever in it except for sailing with a raised jolly roger. You want a pirate game, go play Sid Meier's Pirates, or Sea Dogs, heck go play even the new version of Pirates of The Caribbean Online.
The "there's no reason to play the game" still applies but there's so much more excitement on the seas that "The selling point is that you can sail with your friends" is exciting. Sailing from one island to the other island still happens but when you get harassed by giant sharks and go to the big world events it's pretty fun. If you succeed against those sharks or world events, sailing from point a to point b is even more fun because you're all full of adrenaline and messing around.
Rest in Pussy the point is they want every player to be on an even playing field. They don’t want anyone to be more powerful than anybody else because it will make new or casual players frustrated and battles more unfair because you don’t know if someone has better gear then you
@@sweeqydreamsnl Yeah I don't do a lot of combat, but I still like the progression of at least having levels in each faction you can work towards leveling up
@@sweeqydreamsnl the game now and always was fun, but in a different way where most people dont like it. You make your own story in that game and thats awesome, the adrenaline and the tension when battling ships when you have loot, or raiding other ships, exploding them and etc. You should try it man, I can forget how much good time I had with my friends in that game.
I agree with all of this, but I will say, my best gaming momment came from this game. We lost a battle for one of the skull cloud island things, so I snuck onto the back of the other gallion and rode with them till we got to a merchant place, stole the stronghold chest and skull, and fucking booked it lmao
Mcr2 Dcr3 me and a friend did the same thing. I waited on the ship, he hid in one of cannon towers. We waited for other team to finish and then he sunk their ship, I swooped in we took everything we could before they came and booked. Another time we finished and hid the key left like we had stuff, had them follow and sink us then we went back to the island and got everything
You didn’t even mention Cid Meier’s Pirates. That was a classic pirate game. I thought you might’ve played it or at least heard about it. You gotta try it out man!
@@ARI-ARI678 No black flag is still better. To tell the truth I bought this game on game pass because my friends told me to it is a disappointment as a game who Gets excited sitting on a ship for an hour to get 150 gold
The fact that it didn't have a story and that it was still $60 is complete bullcrap. Now there's rumours that black ops 4 won't launch with a story as well and mark my words it'll have the full $60 price tag. This is becoming the norm in video games
Cypress Stick it was mainly limes...thats why brits were called limeys...cuz of rubbing lime juice over ourselves to stop lice. Not anymore tho...well not very often!
A free to play pirate ship game on Roblox is better then this, your ships are actually destructible and I played it as a kid and I come and it's still great and it was made around 2012 and people still play it today
I knew the AC 4 main theme would show up in this video Also, apparently the AC 4 ship combat has more content than this game And when a ubigreed game is a good example in comparison, it looks not very good for sot
@@aziwazzi3352 ghost recon is picking up, as is r6. Don't touch assassin's Creed though, I've been a fan since the first game, and I'll tell you that AC will never get better.
This was a very fair analysis for the game at the time, I feel like everything he said then has been fixed now so I'd like to see his opinions on it now.
Not even close. They defiantly added content. Didnt fix the issues tho, still very very repetitive, and the fun only lasts the first or second time around
@@MrSeal-oy3fu Oh yeah, I know. Been playing it for a few weeks now constantly with the boys. Its a "Pirate's life" for me! ;) edit: It just seemed like an appropriate comment to make, given the context of the video.
I might do this with my dad and other family members; A pirate themed DND adventure where they're their own crew, being freelancers who can work for and/or against various factions, even being able to take down all factions or make everyone be in harmony. The real kicker is that they have a ship that, each will be able to upgrade in one of the 6 stats with telling anyone what they did and every other level, they ruin one of the stats on their ship. (Those being Strength, Dexterity, Construction, Charisma, Intelligence and Wisdom. The last 2 being more about navigation and dealing with the weather respectively)
Damn good comment! I might just pin it
I can tell you several things.
My gaming experience has greatly improved since I started this practice.
wow nice essay
"PvP can be made easier by just a simple Tag that highlights your ship. A "Swashbuckling" tag lets people know you are looking for a fight, and someone can also throw a "Swashbuckling" tag showing a mutually agreed PvP show down."
People who suggest separate PvP areas really don't get what this game is about.

Critical Nobody yeah, devs! Pong didn’t have crappy customization, loot boxes, or dlcs. And it was popular.... WONDER WHY? (Joke)

The Act Man Can you do a video on call of duty black ops 2?
Pirates online came back thanks to some fans btw

Yoo, I wanna know what he thinks about the game now, I’m curious
Idk, his idea of game progression is something that should be its own game mode in order to be good. It seems that this game isn't for him, and he likes skill trees, purchasable upgrades and such. He forgets to look at it from the other side of the coin, and fails to realize that this way, the game is balanced. Everyone has access to the same package of rules and constraints and its just up to the player, how well can they navigate through these constraints. I think that the game execution was done correctly, and gets better over time, though, I must admit, i am scared of the next update with the flamethrower skull.
Still sucks honestly, I should've never bought it, it's extremely disappointing
Well, yeah I was skeptical about the whole progression thing and if the game would even be any fun at all before I bought it, but I can say it’s good fun, especially with friends. But I guess the game just isn’t for everyone. Only bought it when it came to Steam btw, so can’t say anything about the game when it first launched, but I think the game right now is in a pretty good state and the devs come out with new content pretty much every month so that’s not bad.

4:17 The Gameplay Loop of Sea of Thieves
While the gameplay loop at its core could still be considered taking an item from point a to point b, it has been expanded upon so intensively that you never really focus on it.
6:30 Incentive to Keep Playing and 7:57 The Three Main Factions
Interestingly Sea of Thieves has stuck to a cosmetic only progression system, however there are many new types of ways to earn these items and often times are fun on their own even without a reward. As the game stands there are also seasonal battel passes, 8 experience based factions and 2 based on exploration and world challenges. Here's a brief breakdown of those factions:
Tall Tales: The "Story Mode" of the game, it features an adventure to reach the Shores of Gold, an on going story on the return of Captain Flameheart, and the Pirates Life story which encompasses a story on freeing Jack Sparrow from the Ferryman's ship and helping him retrieve a world traveling trinket.
Oh wow I hit the limit for a TH-cam comment lol. well for the other two factions and the rest of the game you'll just have to see for yourself, but as for the original video I made this comment because it has become somewhat outdated and I think that everyone should give it a shot again because it is truly a great experience now and goes on sale on steam a lot too.

coming here 5 years since the game's release, there's definitelly more content, and more variety, but it is still a very passive game.
Git gud

Even after the updates, the game is still pretty boring. The main issue is there's really no point to the game since there is no progression system or leveling system. You can die and it doesn't really matter. You can get loot and it really doesn't matter. Imo, the best thing is to troll in that game which is frowned upon.
If they had some type of leveling system with bonus attachments, upgrades, etc, the game would be legit. The devs are worried that new players would be at an unfair advantage, but sometimes, you never come across other ships/players in a match.

@@waifuwaffles7697 no one cares about sea of theives that shit is hot trash garbage your so mad at the truth lol
would be cool if it had ports, shops that sold different weapons, say you started with only the cutlass, could add cannons, chain shot, swivels, upgrade your ship, would need to buy compasses, maps, hoard loot in your ship, have someone else be able to steal it, to protect it like a pirate you bury it in a faraway island, mark it on a map, keep the map on the ship, have someone attack you on your ship, take your map, find your treasure as you scramble to get another map to get back to your loot to protect it in a dinghy boat, that'd be so cool.

Thats a pretty damn good idea havent even thought of that and I have a LOT of ideas for Sea of Thieves...
This game is not even worth the $10 in Game Pass.
Play AC Black Flag or Rogue of you want to play a good pirate/ship game!
Chesron Kocsis skull and bones is coming soon
Good pirate games but bad games
Good words my lad.
It is not even worth a free XGP from Xbox One X.
It's gotten better for sure, there's PILES of content now, and the content is still rolling. Maybe try it again and see if you have fun nowadays?
The "there's no reason to play the game" still applies but there's so much more excitement on the seas that "The selling point is that you can sail with your friends" is exciting.
Sailing from one island to the other island still happens but when you get harassed by giant sharks and go to the big world events it's pretty fun.
If you succeed against those sharks or world events, sailing from point a to point b is even more fun because you're all full of adrenaline and messing around.
Ya gotta check it out nowadays though
Still boring what is the point when there is no progression I don’t care about cosmetics I want to grow my character and give him powerfull weapons
Rest in Pussy the point is they want every player to be on an even playing field. They don’t want anyone to be more powerful than anybody else because it will make new or casual players frustrated and battles more unfair because you don’t know if someone has better gear then you
WigWoo1 if the combat system wasn’t so sloppy and boring I would agree but it’s so extremely basic boring and bad looking.
Big bump.
I would say sot is the best pirate game right now
@@ARI-ARI678 No black flag is still better. To tell the truth I bought this game on game pass because my friends told me to it is a disappointment as a game who Gets excited sitting on a ship for an hour to get 150 gold

No mans sky its a good game if we compare him with that piece of trash was sea of shit.
BUT. No Mans Sky is better now.
No Man's Sea
The fact that it didn't have a story and that it was still $60 is complete bullcrap. Now there's rumours that black ops 4 won't launch with a story as well and mark my words it'll have the full $60 price tag. This is becoming the norm in video games

99% never bought the game for its repetitive predictable campaign
They buy cod for the repetitive predictable gameplay
Garbage Gang um sir cod story modes aren't repetitive

A free to play pirate ship game on Roblox is better then this, your ships are actually destructible and I played it as a kid and I come and it's still great and it was made around 2012 and people still play it today

Also, apparently the AC 4 ship combat has more content than this game
And when a ubigreed game is a good example in comparison, it looks not very good for sot
Constantin Streitel well back in 2013 they weren't that greedy.
Hence ezio games and ac3
I'd try and have another look at Ubisoft. R6 Siege, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and the newer AC he's have kinda revived my hope in them.
