We did a 1770 tasting night with their original, triple distilled, peated and their blended malt Malt Riot and I kind of liked all of them but the peated one stood out the most for me. Now that they've changed to 70cl the prices have gone up as well so I don't know if I'll be getting any 1770 when there are so many other new whisky out there. Cheers Shane!

Yeah in hind sight the peated version would've probably been more to my liking. I've still not tried it but I can see the peat balancing out the oak quite nicely.
When they first went up to 700ml they said the price would remain the same 🙄 Naughty if they've not kept to that!

Nice review! I finished a bottle of the peated version. It was heavy on the casks as well (First fill PX and virgin oak). While it was decent, it had this odd note on the nose that reminded me of air freshener spray and cat litter 😅 Cheers!

The new peated version is a very easy drinker. Simple but quite enjoyable. I picked it up for 45€ for 700mL so also decent value.

Interesting review Shane. I bought a 700ml bottle of The Original about two months ago. Not opened yet but looking forward to trying it. I wonder how it compares to the Deanston Virgin Oak. I really like that and also the price as well ! Be also interested to try that peated version of the 1770. 👍

I still have a bottle of Deanston Virgin Oak on the shelf unopened. This 1770 is a decent first effort but I'm hoping the Deanston will be better. I mean... it's Deanston right? 😉

Word on the street is the new “Cairdeas” is a belter. I hope you’re willing and able to review it. Peace.

Is it the newest one for Friends of Laphroaig?? Im Laphroaig fanboy but im Not willing to be Laphroaig's Friend for...£££.. its sounds like kind of: Laphroaig has No Friends. Laphroaig has Bizness Partners. I have no intentions to be anyone bizness partner. I just will stay as a Whisky Aficionado. 👍😁🥂🙋🏻‍♂️

Thanks for the tip Lester. I do usually really like Madeira finished whisky and I'm working on getting at least a sample 🙂 Cheers!

@@WhiskyLockI may have jumped the gun on this one. My two bottles arrived yesterday. Every review on youtube/whisky base so far has been positive. I have to mention that John (Just whisky channel) said that the neck pour was rather hot/alcohol forward, but then opened.up. I will go on record and say that this is the worst initial pour of any Cairdeas I’ve tried. I’m hoping that it will open up past the shoulder. Otherwise it will be the worst Laphroaig I’ve ever had. Plus the bottles have been downsized from 750 to 700ml. I also recently purchased two different single cask editions from Laphroaig that were also 700ml. Not sure if this is the trend to make more money, or if it’s just for special releases?!?….Hopefully I will get back with a better word about this Cairdeas…cheers

I have tried the Adnams whisky that you mentioned but ended up just drinking it with a mixer. Stick to their beer for now untill the whisky gets older.

I always try to look for the positives in whisky that I try but Adnams No1 Single Malt is... just not good 😣 their setup is a weird bourbon-esque beer stripper pot still hybrid that takes inspiration from America but still producing single malt... and I believe they use a lot of virgin European Oak. Too much. My opinion is they need to scrap their current cask policy and start again...
Spirit of Yorkshire Filey Bay is a good example of where they could be using their chosen setup but the Yorkshire spirit is much better already.
Very, very good beer though 🍻

I despise 500ml bottles. Most Tasmanian distilleries release 500ml bottles and they want 200 plus for these bottles. Needless to say I've only sampled Tasmanian whiskies as I refuse to pay big money for small bottles and ti be honest its mostly really good but not 100s of dollars good.

Yeah that's shocking. Too often these small bottles are just a way to hide bad value (Aberlour 18 I'm looking at you!).
