  • Highlights of the exciting great and technically sound Jimmy Bivins.
Jimmy Bivins - Was an American heavyweight boxer whose professional career ran from 1940 to 1955. He was born in Dry Branch, Georgia. Although he was never given the opportunity to fight for a world title, despite at one point being the number one contender in both the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions, Bivins fought and defeated many of the great fighters of his era and won the "Duration" Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight titles. In recognition of his achievements in the ring - among other things, he defeated eight of the eleven world champions he faced - Bivins was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1999. He was also the one-time husband of Dollree Mapp, the subject of prominent Supreme Court case regarding the rights of search and seizures.

He had a Military Funeral. With a Bugler blowing Taps. And I gave him a Ten Count with a bell. Had to look out for my fellow Veteran....

He's the classic case of ' too good for your own good '. Imagine winning against a legend Ezzard Charles in just 15 fights, that says a lot.

Too bad there isn't more video available of these great heavyweights. Some folks have them but won't share with boxing fans. There should be a library somewhere that would have them all online for a modest fee.

The Sam Langford of his era. He beat many world champions and all comers, and yet was never given an opportunity to fight for a world title. He was number 1 contender for both the light heavyweight and world heavyweight titles!!!

Can you make a video for 'Big' Joe Bugner- he faced just about everyone in the 70s... a very capable challenger, never got the respect he deserved in Britain. Thanks!

@@hanzagod Wow, you reminded me how superb Harada, Pryor, McLellan, Galaxy, Foster, Steele, and Moore were. Toney's style was quite similar to Moore's. Monson’s cross was incredible. I think Ali was the best of all time, because He held all the attributes that a great champion must possess. Of course, it’s my opinion and kind of subjective, we cannot come to the conclusion who was the best of all greats. My top 10 list would look like this: Ali, Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Robinson, Salvador Sanchez, Archie Moore, Roy Jones, Joe Louis, Manny Pacquiao. I absolutely understand why you have chosen Liston as Nr. 1, His style was overwhelming, and he was a true master of the Bob & Weave. Very good list Mate, thanks for sharing this video, I very much enjoyed it

I love my ohio boxers. Jimmy bivins was a amazing fighter. He held wins over Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles (the greatest ohio boxer), Charlie burley, and Joey maximum (another ohio great). Most people might not know Jimmy bivins but I do. What he lacked in power he made up for in his unquestionable skills and defense.
