I think the point of Beelzebub being a fly disguised as a bee turns to the proverb “you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” meaning the bee disguise is to just sweeten up the denizens since from what I've gathered, she feeds off of their vibes??? And I would think that you'd warm-up/feel more comfortable partying with a bee than a fly- idk, that's just my take on it, I could be wrong.
Theres a HUGE difference between hate and criticism. Criticism helped me understand art and my own style a lot through the years and even more like writing and storytelling. Critcism shouldn’t be a bad thing and it’s wow when someone makes it out to be. There is no hate in criticism.
Lately Viv is okay with criticism and she agree with them , but she's also the target of hate all the time , soo I honestly don't blame her when she block someone, because she's been exposed to too much hate that she sometimes mistakes criticism with hate

It’s gotten to the point I don’t even comment on the videos because I don’t want to get the flood if it’s mistaken for hate. There’s even one fan here who’s being a real jerk in the comments section if anyone says anything critical about Beelzebub even very mild things like “I wish she had a different outfit”. Neat! Bees never cease to amaze. Since Beelzebub is not a fly despite some common depictions it does not make sense to make her look like one. (Being called Lord of the Flies as an insult does not in fact make you a fly). I think bees look rad so I approve of there bee vibes for the character

My opinion about the whole "Kesha voicing Beelzebub when she had eating disorders in the past is problematic": If Kesha herself is ok with it, then it doesn't matter.
It can actually be really healthy to be able to confront/play with/mock or otherwise acknowledge a past trauma/bad behavior when you're past it enough. It can be part of the processing in regards to moving through trauma. I make jokes all the time about various things in my life that were extremely stressful/traumatic or I'd be willing to engage in talking about them or doing some kind of film/project regarding it. But not everyone is there or ever comfortable with it. It has to be up to the person to be introspective enough to know if it's going to be triggering for them, or a healthy way to process a past experience that caused them pain/suffering.
I LOVE THIS!! I love LOVE that you weren't trying to erase Viv's idea, just enhance it! Cause I loved Beelzebub when I saw her! I did think she had a lot going on though, and you basically perfected it and I'm so happy about it! It looks SO good! This is incredible.
Personally I liked the muchness because it shows her indulgent and gluttony and it wouldn't really make scence that she looked basic also it's clear she's based of party girls who often have very big bright colours and over the topness. Also her normal design isn't what she actually looks like in her large demon form she has bigger wings bee eyes and more of insect look and she is massive.

There are theories that Beelzebub might actually be a fly-fox hybrid disguising herself as a bee-fox, in order to make herself less repulsive to her guests. That's why she only has two wings instead of four like typical bees.

I feel like there’s a difference between designing a character for yourself and designing a character meant for a show. I like the design, though I feel like mentioning that Jay Jay is not vivziepop’s oc. It was someone else’s I think.
Its hers but she only credited the designer (JayJay was an adoptable) as additional credits in the Die Young video and they got upset about it so she completely redesigned her (from what I heard)
As much as I think this design is very cool and interesting, it’s just a little disheartening to hear everyone contsntly criticizing Viv for Bee’s design when Viv didnt make the design. It was a character designer on the team. Viv isn’t the only character designer here.

Especially since some idiots thought she was a p word back then. Criticism is not hate but I get this shit can be annoying if your in this kinda situation having to deal with rabid fanbase and haters
I agree to a certain extent, but sadly Viv seems to be one of those people who automatically dismisses valid criticism as "hate". Like, I get it, she's used to people bashing her, but not being able to differentiate actual hate from constructive criticism isn't good for ANY artist/writer, especially one who's trying to have a professional career. If you let yourself disregard actually helpful advice just because others worded it to you in a way that was hurtful, then you run the risk of becoming one of those "I'm always right and anyone who says otherwise is bullying me"-types. I'm not saying this to trash on Viv, I'm saying this as an aspiring artist/writer who went through a cringey phase of "blocking the haters" just because I was too immature and insecure to accept anything less than glowing praise. At some point, we all have to set our egos aside when it comes to people simply having opinions on what we create. It's one thing if you're blocking people who are actually sending you vitriol, it's another thing if you're blocking people whose only "crime" is failing to kiss your ass.
I think that my biggest grip with Beelzebub's desing is her outfit, is kinda... Ugly (?) At least for me, is just too similar to Loons's everyday clothes. I didn't noticed at first because Loona is wearing a dress when she meets Bee, but if you compare Bee's clothes with Loonas normal outfit, they look almost the same. I think that a diferent outfit would have been a better option. Other than that, i do like the color palette, but i agree that she looks better when she is wearing all black. I love your desing for Bee, it looks so pretty.
Yeah, my rule is generally: colourful, eccentric character = plainer clothing, plain character = more interesting clothing. That's not to say it has to be like that 100% of the time, but its an easy balance to play around with

I always thought the reason for that was because she is supposed to "represent" loona. Like she feels like a super Loona. I always thought that was part of her point. She's respresentative of what Loona WANTS to be. SHe has a social life, class, emotional control, and especially she got the man. In the end the reason why Loona hated Bee is becasue Bee is everything Loona isn't, while simutaneously being everything she already is.
I actually really like Bees design in the show however she doesn't feel like the Beelzebub design wise, I didn't even think she was while I was watching the episide lol I actually like the idea of her being a fly descuised as a bee to hide her true intent or more "gross side" or that she wants to pretend to be something she's not or just seem more appealing to people because flies are gross while bees are cute and pretty But I do really like your redesign!! It's super cute ahh I live watching people be creative
Honestly love the design although for an animation I feel like a lot of the details would have to be completely removed or simplified, especially to keep the character from clashing with the background and so it wouldn't be a hassle to animate. (would be kinda cool to see you make an animation friendly version)
I find most of Viv's characters in the show to be unfriendly for animation so this point is kinda mute to me. If the creator is animating like that already then why not do the same?
Thank you so much for keeping the lava lamp theme when people redesigned her they take the lava lamp stuff off like her hair which it makes her so unique and amazing and it matches her character because she is all over the place 😅
I really like Viv´s design of Bee, however i do kinda wish that she would always have that yellow and black design she had during her song. It made her look more bee-like. Your design is also amazing. I love how you kept her dog face instead and understood why she has it. I´m happy that you kept her colour scheme. My only criticism is: Change her blue nose to black. I think it doesn´t really work with the rest of her yellow face and her black stripes. Otherwise, again, great redesign! 🥰
aaaa I never knew about the fly disguised as a bee part, but that little info makes vivzie's idea GENIUS from my zoology/entomology nerd pov. There's actually quite a lot of of flies that have evolved a bee/wasp look out in nature called bee mimics! They even try to copy bee behavior. That's where she probably got the idea from! If only it translated to her design a bit better, vivzie is such a creative person, omg the thought process it took to come up with all that wordplay of bee-lzebub> fly + bee> bee mimic> queen bee+ honey being related with gluttony etc etc all that party animal stuff
If she did get inspired from bee mimics, she should've skipped the explanation of "was inspired by fly + bee" and straight up say the design was based on a bee mimic cause sadly not all people are that curious to google stuff ToT
I think Beelzebub should be a shapeshifter, actually, all of the sins should be able to shapeshift in some degree, but Beelzebub should be able to change her form into various animals, it just sounds right to me.
Small note on the fox design-in some instances Beelzebub has been described to have attributes associated with foxes, rats, and bats (heck there is an IRL bat species called the Beelezebub's tube nose bat).
I did wish she would’ve leaned in to the insect vibes but if you say that on Twitter, you will be staked in the heart. I love this redesign!! (Plus what is the writing for BOTH seasons?? I’ve been complaining since Spring Broken and the conflict between Loona and Blitzo was just looked over completely)
Season two has been jumping to different plot points without actually finishing previous ones or at least discussing them. Like what happened to Chaz and Millie? There’s just so much stuff they haven’t touched up on it feels like they’re just doing what’s the most exciting at the moment, while leaving behind everything else.

We got an entire flashback showing what Moxxie and Chaz’s relationship was like, and how he abandoned Moxxie, but we never learn what Chaz did to Millie that made her hate him so much. Obviously the episode was supposed to be focused on Moxxie, but it’s also never brought up in the only Millie-centric episode we’ve gotten so far, so it’s not like it added more development to her character. It just feels kind of pointless to make both Millie and Moxxie exes of Chaz and then only ever acknowledge Moxxie’s relationship with him.
(This is critisism not hate) I think you need to look at the tweets viv posted on the beel design. she goes into detail on why beel is a fox and why multiple factors are the reason for the look. Like how all the sins are based off circus acts and beel is the animal tamer.

Honestly I think the colors alone were enough to make her stand out, since they’re so bright and not on any of the hellhounds who had more edgy colors. Also yes it’s her world but like, we’ve never seen any fox demons before her so it really just brings up questions about the world building which show designs shouldn’t do. I get it’s indie but I still think it needs to follow at least some fundamental rules of design and world building. Otherwise it just becomes incoherent. Your Bee design is so pretty, I like how you made her more bee like (like a more bee like shape, which I feel the og could have exaggerated or played with more) The lava lamp abdomen is nice too! I like to interpret it as a tail. It's still as colorful as the original but more easily readable as a bee/ insect fox.
I like how you’re version is so colorful while not being painful to look at. The colors are so harsh in Viv’s version and how they are placed and animated in motion physical hurts my eye. I get that’s a me problem but some of Viv’s characters are the only characters I seem to have this problem with and I wish there was a little bit more thought put into how the design of the characters might effect the audience because sometimes it’s difficult to watch an episode in full if the characters are painful to look at.

I even said that it’s a me thing because I know that I have an eye injury that permanently damaged my eye causing pain as in real pain not eye strain when seeing some of her characters moving on screen but that it would have been nice if Viv took into account how her designs would physically affect people when in motion. I am a follower since the Yandere simulator videos~ For a character named Sun Shadow, (A Horse/ Allicorn) her body is murky yellow, while her legs are black, and she stepped in black ink. Her horn is also black-tipped. Her hair and tail are black, and her wings are half-black.
I like the idea of her being a fly hiding as a bee cuz , she is a lord that wants to make people feel good do they can over indulge , I mean I would perfer to eat from a beautiful bee than a fly , it's not only to please demons but also humans so shecan become stronger

Well if you re-watch the season 1 episode 7 it all starts with M&M anniversary Blitzo tried to come with but they said no, he even tried to sneak into Ozzie's with Stolas & we all know how that turned out. Once Blitzo left Stolas he went back home & notice Loona left a note that she went to Vortex party that where we left off & the ring of Gluttony was supposed to be part 2 episode 8 finale I've been paying attention to each episodes and figured the whole thing, I hope that helped. Still love your artwork of the queen bee.
Viv had already said that the busier color palette is intentional, and the theme was more of a party girl vibe with fox/insect elements. Your design is cool, but in my opinion, it does not match the party aesthetic the episode was going for. Viv's design was more able to fit the continuously changing color palette of the character within the episode, with flowing elements that can convey a more fluid sense of movement, while you have made your design more static with the heavier emphasis on black and the more discernable features like the bee stinger. Overall, you made a good attempt at a redesign, but I will prefer the original as it was able to convey a stronger feeling of overindulgence. You will argue that Viv's design is harder to animate, but there is little chance of Bee becoming a regular appearance on the show, and the animators do deserve to show off in later episodes. Plus, the people who argue that Viv's designs are too hard to animate are probably also wondering why there are fireworks at a New Year's party; WHY SHOULDN'T THEY? ITS A FINALE!?
Thank you for addressing problems I had myself with the design. I didn't find it bad, but I had to do a double take when I found out it was THE Beelzebub. While the design is fun, I found it way too much with colors, elements etc so I find it very nice that you talked about it. Mostly the hair problem, which I found too much having the juice and actual hair on her head and her tail being juice as well. As well as the top and belly clashing so much(I srs couldn't tell what I was looking at when I looked at her outfit). Really love your redesign and your ideas, I find it especially cute how she looks like a different version of a Mizutsune from the Monster Hunter series in her dragon form. Great work!
I don't mean to be criticizing, but your missing the point of Bee-lzebub. She doesn't just represent Gluttony, Queen Bee also loves to Indulge in the act herself. -She doesn't need to make her home a hive, she Wants to for the aesthetic. -She doesn't need to disguise her Fly-half, she Wants to bee seen as something better like a Queen bee. It's not just that she represents Gluttony, and draws power from it, but she lives her life in excess and self indulgences of her Sin. With everything about her meant to highlight Gluttony In it's fullest. (Edit) Now that I see the full redesign, not only do I love how the tail energy is now stored in her abdomen which is awesome, but Holy Heck is she Gorgeous 😍
I do like that Vivzy and another staff member from Helluva did go into detail of the mix of the two as well as Beelzebub origin and how a lot of what we think to be standard of Beelzebub is mostly insults over descriptors (Lord of the flies apparently referring to how flies flock to unsavory things.) Overall though I like this take.
I will say I was surprised to see someone respect the og design and add more insect like details to it compared to how many other artists recreate Beel's design altogether. Personally, I am more a fan or outward designs so it doesn't bother me as much, but I am worried for the story direction of the show.
I loved the design SO much. 😍 Just one thing, I feel like you used a little too much black? The arms blend into the body a little bit. I was having a hard time looking at it. I feel like if you took the bee tail and replaced the blacks with cyan, it would look really interesting. But that's just my opinion ofcourse :)
I really came out of that episode not even realising that *that* was Beelzebub, i thought she was some henchman or just a normal person. I LOVE your redesign so so much, i feel like the other demo rulers of each ring had that ~aura~ that drew people to them and made you instantly think they were important and your dragon design really captured it

Honestly beelzebubs first design is my favorite out of the 2! It just looks good and unique imo. Nobody expected her to be a wolf. Yours is also so good as well! I love the like full animal form!
i think people are giving viv too much hate for HER idea of a show. the episodes could be alittle more organized but like i think shes doing an amazing job
People tend to forget that the sins have a tendency to overlap in some form, a dragon can be greedy and hoard trinkets and such but it's gluttonous desire to hoard makes it's pile get ever bigger while it's probably also envious of other dragons and their hoards or of others for having trinkets it wants enviously which also ties into it's lust for said trinkets or to have more which cycles back to prior points they tend to become wrathful when disturbed or their stuff is touched, they lounge around quite a bit often going into hibernation like states which is very sloth like and they tend to take pride in many aspects whether it be collected knowledge, their trinkets, how immortal they are, etc. Basically a Dragon would make for an amazing embodiment of any and all sins perfectly fitting for rulers of hell and thanks to their design not being set in stone you can really go nuts with how they look and such :)
I really live viv's design as it really stands out, and i personally like all the sharp edges and with a more furry character it's gonna have sharp edges for fur? It's something that catches your eyes as It looks purposely chaotic. It's a design that if you show someone, they'll know who it is pretty easily. the overall design is very unique. When i saw your redesign, it didn't give the same. The heavy use of dark colors can make it hard to see what's going on.. and it looks too "been there done that" bee fox look.
I love the redesign! But- Beezlebub being a bee isn't the whole point. I don't like how everyone makes her a bee when they redesign her, but it still looks great!
Ya, personally, I don't find it very creative when everyone's goto is to just make her more bee like. The reason I like the original design is because it doesn't go overboard with that. Sometimes less is more. And in this case, I really think that applies here.

I still dont think your design works as much as vivs design. Your character looks more bee like, but Beelzebubs design looks more like shes part of the people, which is her role, shes meant to seem somewhat down to earth, like you could party with her. Her design is over the top over indulgent. Your character doesnt vibe like the personality of vivs beelzebub, shes looks like a ruler of gluttony but not vivs ruler of gluttony.
Also making her overweight kinda goes against gluttony imo, seems weird but its overindulgence. Where you can never feel satisfied, the lava lamp thing on her chest i beleive was said to disintegrate what she consumes. Its a much more literal sense of never getting enough. Also gluttony isnt just food, it can be anything, alcohol, drugs, internet etc
One thing i think would look better im context is brown stripes instead of black, cause bees habe brown stripes and black ones indicate a Wasp. And i think we all hate Wasps 😂
Personally i felt the episode was way too busy. I couldn’t even think to notice half the details because there was always something happening, and half the time it was my guess why. Basically, i was really confused for most of it and it think Beelzebubs design joined that. Your design seems much more readable (tho i might be biased since I’ve watched it get drawn and looked at it for a good while)
this was a good video, like it was genuine constructive criticism a lot of the other "criticism" that i see around is usually just hate, ignorance or "i want it MY way", which is where the whole "viv can't take criticism" came from, because who wants to see criticism that attacks or degrades what you make without any type of constructivety and doesn't consider anyone or anything else in it but anyway this was really good, so kudos
One of the biggest complaints I've seen is that Beelzebub's design isn't fat, and I think people don't realize that Gluttony is overindulgence, not just in food. For example in Charmed (which actually introduced me to the proper definition of Gluttony), Piper didn't only eat tons of food, she went online shopping and bought so much useless crud it was becoming hazardous. So many forms of media display Gluttony as a fat slob or fly-like. Darksiders made Gluttony a giant kraken, and no one was dissing him. I'm glad Vivzie went a different direction with Gluttony, still making her insect themed while not just leaning on "giant fly".
Personally a gripe/critique of mine for vivs design is I found out...she apparently used A FOX for it. Not a hellhound, not a wolf, a fox. Foxes aren't known for gluttony nor symbolize it in any culture, they usually symbolize greed or mischief. It really feels like she only did what she was use too, the same torn outfit EXACTLY like Loona's, you just don't notice it because she and the crew they purposely put Loona in a dress for the context of the episode but it also detours the viewers from realizing the exact similarities Loona and Bee have. I don't at all hate Viv and her designs but her choices are....questionable as an artist outside it all. Don't get me wrong I do like the different approach of Beels ring being like a bee hive where everyone is a worker and she actively encourages everyone to indulge/have fun while she feeds herself on the positive emotions it seems. It just felt way too chaotic for her design character and animation wise for her outfit to be bright colord, her having the casual emo hair like she has always done even from the old videos "die young", the fact you don't realize she was a fox apparently because she looks SO MUCH like a normal hellhound. The hair and tail being honey like texture I like from both her og design and yours here for sure, but I was definitely more disappointed with the very little insect features added on the original design, so I'm very content with the leaning of it here thank you for that.

Yeah Viv has a good artstyle but her wolf designs do kinda stay the same. Her old version of Crymini looked eerily similar to JayJay (the Die Young wolf) until she did a giant redesign

I like Bee's hair because it reminds me of Princess Celestia, Luna, and grown up Twilight sparkle. The flowy hair keeps my eyes by the face because i like to watch it move
I mean Asmodius is also like, a rooster, and Mammon is a clown, so we arent exactly 100% accurate here. I think that her design is awesome, and really encompases what Vivzie wants to portray in her version of hell. This is just my opinion though😅
I have not watched Helluva Boss or Hazbin and I don’t really intend to but I do love Vivzie’s art style! I’ve done a lot of reading about demon mythos and was really confused about why Beelzebub was a fox/wolf thing. Obviously, Vivzie just likes drawing anthro canines. Came across this video while trying to see if there was an in-universe explanation. I think you did such a fantastic job making her more insect-like without losing that Vivzie touch and the spirit of the design. The lava lamp effect is so fun. I think it’d be neat if she could change it. Like maybe the standard appearance looks like honey but she can switch it to fun colors for parties. Beautiful work!
I don't know if anyone has said this, but Bombyliidae, also known as beeflies exist. A fly that looks like a bee! so the bee themes would totally work. [side note, since you mentioned pokemon, this is what Cutiefly is based off of]
as someone who had (and still deals with) and ED, Kesha voicing Beelzebub did NOT translate that way. People are completely stretching to make Viv look like a bad guy, and its awful. Not only that but Kesha herself wanted to voice this character, so putting the blame on Viv for this is wrong. People need to stop trying to make Viv look like the bad guy, its starting to become too much.
i love how you kept vivzies ideas and just enhanced her design instead, it really shows how talented you are, knowing that you cant just simply change the creators idea, but instead just adjust a few things that make more of a match to the theme.
My head cannon is that Bee looks more dog/fox like to blend in and not remind the hell hounds that she is in fact FAR above them in terms of rank. There are also theories that while she's pleasant and seems kind, her ulterior motive to get hounds/imps drunk, indulge is not just her feeding of the energy of people having a awesome time, but also leads to a lot of procreation of both groups, since they are the bottom classes in the pyramid. She signs off on adoptions of hell hounds as we can see in the photo of Blitzo and Loona where she signs the paper. Hell hounds are a popular workforce/pet option, but they are not treated as people. Blitzo calling Loona his daughter and treating her like he does is rare, which we saw in the Harvest Moon Festival episode where even Millie refers to her as "his hell hound". Bee might want to fit in more so she controls them better and doesn't out herself. Might also be why she found it fit to date Vortex, both because she clearly does in fact like him, but also it causes her to be seen as part of the pack instead of forced leadership position due to being one of the seven princes and the embodiment of one of the sins. Her design to look less insect like on first view, which is her chosen form given that she can go much more demonic/insect like when angry enough, is to blend in, which has a host of positives in her favor, either for more compassionate purposes, or more nefarious ones and in her case, I think it's both. I agree that the design is less readable, but that might of also been the point. Her "edgy" outfit also fits well with her over the top personality and style that kind of reads, if you'll excuse me in being ageist for just a moment, because I can't think of a better way to put it, a adult trying to fit in with the teens/early 20's crowds. Not quite level of a 40-50 year old saying "I too am the young. What is up my hip fellow students?" level, but in that overarching trope. It's also probably a combo of crazy animation, but also simple enough to make it in fact doable and focus on the lava flow and other fancy parts only when needed, like in her song number. This all said, I really like your designs too! I think some of them would be difficult to animate and stay consistent, like ombre legs and some stripe placements, but I do like the more insect influences and the demonic/dragon/wolfy form you came up with. Only thing I'd add to your design is smaller eyes to reflect the insect nature even more like the third one Bee in cannon has, because actual insect eyes with hexagonal divisions would be a nightmare to animate, so extra eyes get that creep factor back in for humans because we don't like insects that much, due to their deviation from mammals and human like features we're familiar with.

I think the lava globe body is ment to symbolise a void that cannot be filled. The Sinner in the summer camp episode backs this up, given that (Im pretty sure) its implied he has a drug habit, which comes under Gluttony Also, are you gunna redesign Mammon and Asmodeus? It would also be really cool to see you interpretations of the Sins in general

I actually love Bee's og design, maybe it's the 2010 emo furry in me haha. It got a soft sort of emo vibe to it. I do love to see how everyone reimagines it though! The idea to make her a dragon is just so cool ??? The way you colored her lava lamp bits is super pretty too !!
I love your interpretation of her design it is very interesting the dragon form does totally fit to her traits of glutony! Just a small thing that bother me is the lineart like the lil specs of white in your lineart especially when you color make the clean art feel unfinished unlike the look you tryed to acheve wich is a crayon look at least fill the under lines w colors or youll get this weird unfinished look

In my opinion, the chest fluff is kinda like, angel dust from, hazbin hotel, and I say for the tail, kinda like get rid of the curve and don't make it like a fox tail, and make it more like a bee tail, and I would think she would look good with some, honeycomb design and honey dripping from her (don't take that dirty)😁

OMG so- You know how hellhounds are the main species of the gluttony ring? Well, IDK if this is cannon, but in Dante's Inferno, the circle of gluttony is said to be the home of cerberus so maybe that's why so many of the gluttony citizens are canines
Beezelbulb isn't really a fly demon Sure the pop culture will potray him that way however Beel isn't a fly, his title comes from the fact that he was the first one of the demons to be able to fly. The whole point about the character not being related to flies is pointless The show follows a type of design for its characters too every show does and the only thing I can say about the design is that it would benefit from a few details being removed other than that the complaints are as loud as someone feeling icky that their pizza has bell peppers
Fun fact: there are species of meat-eating bees, which means, if Beelzebub is a hellish version of these, that 1) her design can respect both the bible's and Vivzie's lore, 2) her beelzejuice could be made from the corpes of hellborn demon or sinners (since we see them cleannig after the extermination).

Beelzebub was deisnged to match Ke$ha. Her names means lord of the fly so she doesn't exactly look bee like but has fly wings which the rest of her is there to disguise that factor.(For those who don't know) Since her body can change colors I believe she just puts on the cotton candy theme for her parties and while she's not she'll be bee color themed or unless she just turns cotton candy when she feels good since she can taste people's moods. I'd say Beelzbub's design was put together quite well accept for the pants, The pants kinda bother me and the way the hair is a bit. But I love that she isn't automatically fat because people think she's a bee when she's not necessarily one. I think she's a hybrid of mostly a fox, and fly but also enough bee to be able to be royalty.
i think Queen bee is perfect the best she is sense the foxes are very energetic and also vocal and so they are a party animal so foxes are perfect for being like queen bees design and also queen bee being like more bee wont really go well for being in a more hell hound
I think the point of Beelzebub being a fly disguised as a bee turns to the proverb “you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar” meaning the bee disguise is to just sweeten up the denizens since from what I've gathered, she feeds off of their vibes??? And I would think that you'd warm-up/feel more comfortable partying with a bee than a fly- idk, that's just my take on it, I could be wrong.

Theres a HUGE difference between hate and criticism. Criticism helped me understand art and my own style a lot through the years and even more like writing and storytelling. Critcism shouldn’t be a bad thing and it’s wow when someone makes it out to be. There is no hate in criticism.

It can actually be really healthy to be able to confront/play with/mock or otherwise acknowledge a past trauma/bad behavior when you're past it enough. It can be part of the processing in regards to moving through trauma. I make jokes all the time about various things in my life that were extremely stressful/traumatic or I'd be willing to engage in talking about them or doing some kind of film/project regarding it. But not everyone is there or ever comfortable with it.
It has to be up to the person to be introspective enough to know if it's going to be triggering for them, or a healthy way to process a past experience that caused them pain/suffering.
I LOVE THIS!! I love LOVE that you weren't trying to erase Viv's idea, just enhance it! Cause I loved Beelzebub when I saw her! I did think she had a lot going on though, and you basically perfected it and I'm so happy about it! It looks SO good! This is incredible.
Personally I liked the muchness because it shows her indulgent and gluttony and it wouldn't really make scence that she looked basic also it's clear she's based of party girls who often have very big bright colours and over the topness. Also her normal design isn't what she actually looks like in her large demon form she has bigger wings bee eyes and more of insect look and she is massive.

There are theories that Beelzebub might actually be a fly-fox hybrid disguising herself as a bee-fox, in order to make herself less repulsive to her guests. That's why she only has two wings instead of four like typical bees.

I feel like there’s a difference between designing a character for yourself and designing a character meant for a show.
I like the design, though I feel like mentioning that Jay Jay is not vivziepop’s oc. It was someone else’s I think.
Its hers but she only credited the designer (JayJay was an adoptable) as additional credits in the Die Young video and they got upset about it so she completely redesigned her (from what I heard)

I agree to a certain extent, but sadly Viv seems to be one of those people who automatically dismisses valid criticism as "hate". Like, I get it, she's used to people bashing her, but not being able to differentiate actual hate from constructive criticism isn't good for ANY artist/writer, especially one who's trying to have a professional career. If you let yourself disregard actually helpful advice just because others worded it to you in a way that was hurtful, then you run the risk of becoming one of those "I'm always right and anyone who says otherwise is bullying me"-types.
I'm not saying this to trash on Viv, I'm saying this as an aspiring artist/writer who went through a cringey phase of "blocking the haters" just because I was too immature and insecure to accept anything less than glowing praise. At some point, we all have to set our egos aside when it comes to people simply having opinions on what we create. It's one thing if you're blocking people who are actually sending you vitriol, it's another thing if you're blocking people whose only "crime" is failing to kiss your ass.
I think that my biggest grip with Beelzebub's desing is her outfit, is kinda... Ugly (?) At least for me, is just too similar to Loons's everyday clothes. I didn't noticed at first because Loona is wearing a dress when she meets Bee, but if you compare Bee's clothes with Loonas normal outfit, they look almost the same. I think that a diferent outfit would have been a better option. Other than that, i do like the color palette, but i agree that she looks better when she is wearing all black. I love your desing for Bee, it looks so pretty.

Yeah, my rule is generally: colourful, eccentric character = plainer clothing, plain character = more interesting clothing. That's not to say it has to be like that 100% of the time, but its an easy balance to play around with

I always thought the reason for that was because she is supposed to "represent" loona. Like she feels like a super Loona. I always thought that was part of her point. She's respresentative of what Loona WANTS to be. SHe has a social life, class, emotional control, and especially she got the man. In the end the reason why Loona hated Bee is becasue Bee is everything Loona isn't, while simutaneously being everything she already is.
I actually really like Bees design in the show however she doesn't feel like the Beelzebub design wise, I didn't even think she was while I was watching the episide lol

I really like Viv´s design of Bee, however i do kinda wish that she would always have that yellow and black design she had during her song. It made her look more bee-like.
Your design is also amazing. I love how you kept her dog face instead and understood why she has it. I´m happy that you kept her colour scheme. My only criticism is: Change her blue nose to black. I think it doesn´t really work with the rest of her yellow face and her black stripes. Otherwise, again, great redesign! 🥰
aaaa I never knew about the fly disguised as a bee part, but that little info makes vivzie's idea GENIUS from my zoology/entomology nerd pov. There's actually quite a lot of of flies that have evolved a bee/wasp look out in nature called bee mimics! They even try to copy bee behavior. That's where she probably got the idea from! If only it translated to her design a bit better, vivzie is such a creative person, omg the thought process it took to come up with all that wordplay of bee-lzebub> fly + bee> bee mimic> queen bee+ honey being related with gluttony etc etc all that party animal stuff
If she did get inspired from bee mimics, she should've skipped the explanation of "was inspired by fly + bee" and straight up say the design was based on a bee mimic cause sadly not all people are that curious to google stuff ToT
also also the dragon is an AMAZING base that can mix all the three bee+fly+canine themes while also adding up the gluttony mix. Kudos!
I think Beelzebub should be a shapeshifter, actually, all of the sins should be able to shapeshift in some degree, but Beelzebub should be able to change her form into various animals, it just sounds right to me.
Small note on the fox design-in some instances Beelzebub has been described to have attributes associated with foxes, rats, and bats (heck there is an IRL bat species called the Beelezebub's tube nose bat).

Season two has been jumping to different plot points without actually finishing previous ones or at least discussing them. Like what happened to Chaz and Millie? There’s just so much stuff they haven’t touched up on it feels like they’re just doing what’s the most exciting at the moment, while leaving behind everything else.

@@BloodMoonCosplaysI think they’re specifically referring to the lack of elaboration on Chaz and Millie’s relationship. We got an entire flashback showing what Moxxie and Chaz’s relationship was like, and how he abandoned Moxxie, but we never learn what Chaz did to Millie that made her hate him so much. Obviously the episode was supposed to be focused on Moxxie, but it’s also never brought up in the only Millie-centric episode we’ve gotten so far, so it’s not like it added more development to her character. It just feels kind of pointless to make both Millie and Moxxie exes of Chaz and then only ever acknowledge Moxxie’s relationship with him.
(This is critisism not hate) I think you need to look at the tweets viv posted on the beel design. she goes into detail on why beel is a fox and why multiple factors are the reason for the look. Like how all the sins are based off circus acts and beel is the animal tamer.

I get it’s indie but I still think it needs to follow at least some fundamental rules of design and world building. Otherwise it just becomes incoherent. The lava lamp abdomen is nice too! I like to interpret it as a tail. It's still as colorful as the original but more easily readable as a bee/ insect fox.

I like how you’re version is so colorful while not being painful to look at. The colors are so harsh in Viv’s version and how they are placed and animated in motion physical hurts my eye. I get that’s a me problem but some of Viv’s characters are the only characters I seem to have this problem with and I wish there was a little bit more thought put into how the design of the characters might effect the audience because sometimes it’s difficult to watch an episode in full if the characters are painful to look at.

I even said that it’s a me thing because I know that I have an eye injury that permanently damaged my eye causing pain as in real pain not eye strain when seeing some of her characters moving on screen but that it would have been nice if Viv took into account how her designs would physically affect people when in motion. And I’m saying this because I want to watch and enjoy the show. Jesus Christ some stans need to regain some basic human decency.

For a character named Sun Shadow, (A Horse/ Allicorn) her body is murky yellow, while her legs are black, and she stepped in black ink. Her horn is also black-tipped. Her hair and tail are black, and her wings are half-black.
I like the idea of her being a fly hiding as a bee cuz , she is a lord that wants to make people feel good do they can over indulge , I mean I would perfer to eat from a beautiful bee than a fly , it's not only to please demons but also humans so shecan become stronger

Well if you re-watch the season 1 episode 7 it all starts with M&M anniversary Blitzo tried to come with but they said no, he even tried to sneak into Ozzie's with Stolas & we all know how that turned out. Once Blitzo left Stolas he went back home & notice Loona left a note that she went to Vortex party that where we left off & the ring of Gluttony was supposed to be part 2 episode 8 finale
I've been paying attention to each episodes and figured the whole thing, I hope that helped. Still love your artwork of the queen bee.
Viv had already said that the busier color palette is intentional, and the theme was more of a party girl vibe with fox/insect elements. Your design is cool, but in my opinion, it does not match the party aesthetic the episode was going for. Viv's design was more able to fit the continuously changing color palette of the character within the episode, with flowing elements that can convey a more fluid sense of movement, while you have made your design more static with the heavier emphasis on black and the more discernable features like the bee stinger. Overall, you made a good attempt at a redesign, but I will prefer the original as it was able to convey a stronger feeling of overindulgence. You will argue that Viv's design is harder to animate, but there is little chance of Bee becoming a regular appearance on the show, and the animators do deserve to show off in later episodes. Plus, the people who argue that Viv's designs are too hard to animate are probably also wondering why there are fireworks at a New Year's party; WHY SHOULDN'T THEY? ITS A FINALE!?
Thank you for addressing problems I had myself with the design. I didn't find it bad, but I had to do a double take when I found out it was THE Beelzebub. While the design is fun, I found it way too much with colors, elements etc so I find it very nice that you talked about it. Mostly the hair problem, which I found too much having the juice and actual hair on her head and her tail being juice as well. As well as the top and belly clashing so much(I srs couldn't tell what I was looking at when I looked at her outfit).
Really love your redesign and your ideas, I find it especially cute how she looks like a different version of a Mizutsune from the Monster Hunter series in her dragon form. Great work!

It's not just that she represents Gluttony, and draws power from it, but she lives her life in excess and self indulgences of her Sin. With everything about her meant to highlight Gluttony In it's fullest.
(Edit) Now that I see the full redesign, not only do I love how the tail energy is now stored in her abdomen which is awesome, but Holy Heck is she Gorgeous 😍
I do like that Vivzy and another staff member from Helluva did go into detail of the mix of the two as well as Beelzebub origin and how a lot of what we think to be standard of Beelzebub is mostly insults over descriptors (Lord of the flies apparently referring to how flies flock to unsavory things.)
Overall though I like this take.

I will say I was surprised to see someone respect the og design and add more insect like details to it compared to how many other artists recreate Beel's design altogether.
Personally, I am more a fan or outward designs so it doesn't bother me as much, but I am worried for the story direction of the show.

Just one thing, I feel like you used a little too much black? The arms blend into the body a little bit. I was having a hard time looking at it.
I feel like if you took the bee tail and replaced the blacks with cyan, it would look really interesting.

I really came out of that episode not even realising that *that* was Beelzebub, i thought she was some henchman or just a normal person. I LOVE your redesign so so much, i feel like the other demo rulers of each ring had that ~aura~ that drew people to them and made you instantly think they were important and your dragon design really captured it
Fun fact: some flies mimic bees and hide near their nests to feed on them! That I believe is the correlation!

Honestly beelzebubs first design is my favorite out of the 2! It just looks good and unique imo. Nobody expected her to be a wolf. Yours is also so good as well! I love the like full animal form!

Hover flies disguise themselves as bees! I wonder if that’s what she is, that way it’s disguised more desirable. That way both themes make sense 🤷🏻♀️
i think people are giving viv too much hate for HER idea of a show. the episodes could be alittle more organized but like i think shes doing an amazing job
People tend to forget that the sins have a tendency to overlap in some form, a dragon can be greedy and hoard trinkets and such but it's gluttonous desire to hoard makes it's pile get ever bigger while it's probably also envious of other dragons and their hoards or of others for having trinkets it wants enviously which also ties into it's lust for said trinkets or to have more which cycles back to prior points they tend to become wrathful when disturbed or their stuff is touched, they lounge around quite a bit often going into hibernation like states which is very sloth like and they tend to take pride in many aspects whether it be collected knowledge, their trinkets, how immortal they are, etc.
Basically a Dragon would make for an amazing embodiment of any and all sins perfectly fitting for rulers of hell and thanks to their design not being set in stone you can really go nuts with how they look and such :)
I really live viv's design as it really stands out, and i personally like all the sharp edges and with a more furry character it's gonna have sharp edges for fur? It's something that catches your eyes as It looks purposely chaotic. It's a design that if you show someone, they'll know who it is pretty easily. the overall design is very unique.
When i saw your redesign, it didn't give the same. The heavy use of dark colors can make it hard to see what's going on.. and it looks too "been there done that" bee fox look.
I love the redesign! But- Beezlebub being a bee isn't the whole point. I don't like how everyone makes her a bee when they redesign her, but it still looks great!
Ya, personally, I don't find it very creative when everyone's goto is to just make her more bee like. The reason I like the original design is because it doesn't go overboard with that. Sometimes less is more. And in this case, I really think that applies here.

I still dont think your design works as much as vivs design. Your character looks more bee like, but Beelzebubs design looks more like shes part of the people, which is her role, shes meant to seem somewhat down to earth, like you could party with her. Her design is over the top over indulgent. Your character doesnt vibe like the personality of vivs beelzebub, shes looks like a ruler of gluttony but not vivs ruler of gluttony.
Finally, a Queen Bee redesign that isn't just making her fat or a literal fly/bee
Also making her overweight kinda goes against gluttony imo, seems weird but its overindulgence. Where you can never feel satisfied, the lava lamp thing on her chest i beleive was said to disintegrate what she consumes. Its a much more literal sense of never getting enough. Also gluttony isnt just food, it can be anything, alcohol, drugs, internet etc
One thing i think would look better im context is brown stripes instead of black, cause bees habe brown stripes and black ones indicate a Wasp. And i think we all hate Wasps 😂
Zoophobia is how I found Viv, and when I met her, it was one of the first things I told her, she was definitely over the moon hearing that.
Personally i felt the episode was way too busy. I couldn’t even think to notice half the details because there was always something happening, and half the time it was my guess why. Basically, i was really confused for most of it and it think Beelzebubs design joined that.
Your design seems much more readable (tho i might be biased since I’ve watched it get drawn and looked at it for a good while)

a lot of the other "criticism" that i see around is usually just hate, ignorance or "i want it MY way", which is where the whole "viv can't take criticism" came from, because who wants to see criticism that attacks or degrades what you make without any type of constructivety and doesn't consider anyone or anything else in it
but anyway this was really good, so kudos
One of the biggest complaints I've seen is that Beelzebub's design isn't fat, and I think people don't realize that Gluttony is overindulgence, not just in food. For example in Charmed (which actually introduced me to the proper definition of Gluttony), Piper didn't only eat tons of food, she went online shopping and bought so much useless crud it was becoming hazardous.
So many forms of media display Gluttony as a fat slob or fly-like. Darksiders made Gluttony a giant kraken, and no one was dissing him. I'm glad Vivzie went a different direction with Gluttony, still making her insect themed while not just leaning on "giant fly".
Yeah I don’t get people saying that Beelzebub has to be fat.
I love the original, so I really hope this redesign is done out of love for the original instead of contempt/arrogance or scorn.
Personally a gripe/critique of mine for vivs design is I found out...she apparently used A FOX for it. Not a hellhound, not a wolf, a fox. Foxes aren't known for gluttony nor symbolize it in any culture, they usually symbolize greed or mischief. It really feels like she only did what she was use too, the same torn outfit EXACTLY like Loona's, you just don't notice it because she and the crew they purposely put Loona in a dress for the context of the episode but it also detours the viewers from realizing the exact similarities Loona and Bee have. I don't at all hate Viv and her designs but her choices are....questionable as an artist outside it all. Don't get me wrong I do like the different approach of Beels ring being like a bee hive where everyone is a worker and she actively encourages everyone to indulge/have fun while she feeds herself on the positive emotions it seems. It just felt way too chaotic for her design character and animation wise for her outfit to be bright colord, her having the casual emo hair like she has always done even from the old videos "die young", the fact you don't realize she was a fox apparently because she looks SO MUCH like a normal hellhound. The hair and tail being honey like texture I like from both her og design and yours here for sure, but I was definitely more disappointed with the very little insect features added on the original design, so I'm very content with the leaning of it here thank you for that.

Yeah Viv has a good artstyle but her wolf designs do kinda stay the same. Her old version of Crymini looked eerily similar to JayJay (the Die Young wolf) until she did a giant redesign

I like Bee's hair because it reminds me of Princess Celestia, Luna, and grown up Twilight sparkle. The flowy hair keeps my eyes by the face because i like to watch it move
I really love your design of beelzebub, but I wish vivziepop added demon insects instead of imps.
I mean Asmodius is also like, a rooster, and Mammon is a clown, so we arent exactly 100% accurate here. I think that her design is awesome, and really encompases what Vivzie wants to portray in her version of hell.

I have not watched Helluva Boss or Hazbin and I don’t really intend to but I do love Vivzie’s art style! I’ve done a lot of reading about demon mythos and was really confused about why Beelzebub was a fox/wolf thing. Obviously, Vivzie just likes drawing anthro canines. Came across this video while trying to see if there was an in-universe explanation. I think you did such a fantastic job making her more insect-like without losing that Vivzie touch and the spirit of the design. The lava lamp effect is so fun. I think it’d be neat if she could change it. Like maybe the standard appearance looks like honey but she can switch it to fun colors for parties. Beautiful work!
Only thing I would say about Bee's design is just color scheme. The black/yellow/pinkish red looked better on her.

as someone who had (and still deals with) and ED, Kesha voicing Beelzebub did NOT translate that way. People are completely stretching to make Viv look like a bad guy, and its awful. Not only that but Kesha herself wanted to voice this character, so putting the blame on Viv for this is wrong. People need to stop trying to make Viv look like the bad guy, its starting to become too much.
i love how you kept vivzies ideas and just enhanced her design instead, it really shows how talented you are, knowing that you cant just simply change the creators idea, but instead just adjust a few things that make more of a match to the theme.
My head cannon is that Bee looks more dog/fox like to blend in and not remind the hell hounds that she is in fact FAR above them in terms of rank. There are also theories that while she's pleasant and seems kind, her ulterior motive to get hounds/imps drunk, indulge is not just her feeding of the energy of people having a awesome time, but also leads to a lot of procreation of both groups, since they are the bottom classes in the pyramid. She signs off on adoptions of hell hounds as we can see in the photo of Blitzo and Loona where she signs the paper. Hell hounds are a popular workforce/pet option, but they are not treated as people. Blitzo calling Loona his daughter and treating her like he does is rare, which we saw in the Harvest Moon Festival episode where even Millie refers to her as "his hell hound". Bee might want to fit in more so she controls them better and doesn't out herself. Might also be why she found it fit to date Vortex, both because she clearly does in fact like him, but also it causes her to be seen as part of the pack instead of forced leadership position due to being one of the seven princes and the embodiment of one of the sins. Her design to look less insect like on first view, which is her chosen form given that she can go much more demonic/insect like when angry enough, is to blend in, which has a host of positives in her favor, either for more compassionate purposes, or more nefarious ones and in her case, I think it's both.
I agree that the design is less readable, but that might of also been the point. Her "edgy" outfit also fits well with her over the top personality and style that kind of reads, if you'll excuse me in being ageist for just a moment, because I can't think of a better way to put it, a adult trying to fit in with the teens/early 20's crowds. Not quite level of a 40-50 year old saying "I too am the young. What is up my hip fellow students?" level, but in that overarching trope.
It's also probably a combo of crazy animation, but also simple enough to make it in fact doable and focus on the lava flow and other fancy parts only when needed, like in her song number.
This all said, I really like your designs too! I think some of them would be difficult to animate and stay consistent, like ombre legs and some stripe placements, but I do like the more insect influences and the demonic/dragon/wolfy form you came up with. Only thing I'd add to your design is smaller eyes to reflect the insect nature even more like the third one Bee in cannon has, because actual insect eyes with hexagonal divisions would be a nightmare to animate, so extra eyes get that creep factor back in for humans because we don't like insects that much, due to their deviation from mammals and human like features we're familiar with.

I think the lava globe body is ment to symbolise a void that cannot be filled. The Sinner in the summer camp episode backs this up, given that (Im pretty sure) its implied he has a drug habit, which comes under Gluttony
Also, are you gunna redesign Mammon and Asmodeus? It would also be really cool to see you interpretations of the Sins in general

I actually love Bee's og design, maybe it's the 2010 emo furry in me haha. It got a soft sort of emo vibe to it. I do love to see how everyone reimagines it though! The idea to make her a dragon is just so cool ??? The way you colored her lava lamp bits is super pretty too !!
I love your interpretation of her design it is very interesting the dragon form does totally fit to her traits of glutony! Just a small thing that bother me is the lineart like the lil specs of white in your lineart especially when you color make the clean art feel unfinished unlike the look you tryed to acheve wich is a crayon look at least fill the under lines w colors or youll get this weird unfinished look
I like it, I didn’t like how Vivziepops design has such small wings that I didn’t notice them until my second watch, and how she was like 5% bug, the bug demon wasn’t a bug, your design fixed those and looks really cool

In my opinion, the chest fluff is kinda like, angel dust from, hazbin hotel, and I say for the tail, kinda like get rid of the curve and don't make it like a fox tail, and make it more like a bee tail, and I would think she would look good with some, honeycomb design and honey dripping from her (don't take that dirty)😁
Hellhounds being from the Ring of Gluttony makes total sence to me! dogs will eat as long as you throw food infront of them until they vomit.

OMG so- You know how hellhounds are the main species of the gluttony ring? Well, IDK if this is cannon, but in Dante's Inferno, the circle of gluttony is said to be the home of cerberus so maybe that's why so many of the gluttony citizens are canines
Beezelbulb isn't really a fly demon
Sure the pop culture will potray him that way however Beel isn't a fly, his title comes from the fact that he was the first one of the demons to be able to fly. The whole point about the character not being related to flies is pointless
The show follows a type of design for its characters too every show does and the only thing I can say about the design is that it would benefit from a few details being removed other than that the complaints are as loud as someone feeling icky that their pizza has bell peppers

Fun fact: there are species of meat-eating bees, which means, if Beelzebub is a hellish version of these, that 1) her design can respect both the bible's and Vivzie's lore, 2) her beelzejuice could be made from the corpes of hellborn demon or sinners (since we see them cleannig after the extermination).

Beelzebub was deisnged to match Ke$ha. Her names means lord of the fly so she doesn't exactly look bee like but has fly wings which the rest of her is there to disguise that factor.(For those who don't know) Since her body can change colors I believe she just puts on the cotton candy theme for her parties and while she's not she'll be bee color themed or unless she just turns cotton candy when she feels good since she can taste people's moods. I'd say Beelzbub's design was put together quite well accept for the pants, The pants kinda bother me and the way the hair is a bit. But I love that she isn't automatically fat because people think she's a bee when she's not necessarily one. I think she's a hybrid of mostly a fox, and fly but also enough bee to be able to be royalty.
i think Queen bee is perfect the best she is sense the foxes are very energetic and also vocal and so they are a party animal so foxes are perfect for being like queen bees design and also queen bee being like more bee wont really go well for being in a more hell hound
