I have a BMW 5 series 54 plate that keeps chucking up transmission problems but when the AA come out and clear the transmission fault codes it works perfectly fine again. Do you know if you can clear transmission fault codes with this device? Thanks in advance. Richard
Richard Hills Jr I hear some Chrysler vehicles have a similar issue caused by a faulty ABS tone ring, it could also be a transmission solenoid malfunction. hoefully you fix it soon

Question, my ELM327 arrived in ADHOC mode (stupid) for 6 years i would use it searching non stop for an STN or Infrastructre mode or Version of the product, one day i decided to see if port 80 is open , it was (HTTP GUI), i switched it to Station mode, i entered SSD, Encryption (WPA2PSK CCMP) and the key ( even kept a screen shot) the ELM327 connects a few seconds to the AP and disconnects. I made sure the AP is set to the same Encryption type, and key... I even set a static/Fixed in the ELM327 .. Any tips? The unit is close to AP, tried many APs, legacy, wrt54g, dd-wrt. different channels. no go .

The apps have a list. you just choose your car. I can say if they have your car, I dont own that one, but most are the same. ie all Toyotas seem to use the same protocols.
don't know if this helps anyone- mine is wi-fi only. i shut off my home wireless (phone kept connecting to it otherwise) then it found the elm327 adapter.
Test your obd 2 plug for power and ground if none check the fuses that go to it and if car dont run check fuses that go to ecm and for power and ground to the ecm
@@simonwarmer8777 OK, the dongles are always compatible, (its the ELM version 1.2 from memory, that is an oder version, or you will have to find the PIDs and set up some formulae, I had to do this to get some things like Trans temp.

Bong Gakaday ~~ by default, it will go off of the DHCP settings. Did you change it from DHCP to Static in the wifi options? Is your sensor flashing when you have the key turned on without the motor running? Also, in the app make sure when configuring the wifi that the ip is set to 192.168.0.10 and the port is set to 35000.
+pb, no, these are power hogs. I left one in my car and the battery was drained in a day. The fancy ones from scantool.net will go into power savings mode.

CAN = Controller Area Network. Its the BUS and communications method modern cars use. its what the dongle is tapping into. Its a message based system. It looks for the oil pressure message for example and grabs the value.
As long as its on the BUS. You may need some different formulas to get it to work. Some Apps have these inbuilt, but if not you have to work it out or find the info on the web. eg For my Toyota I had to find the PID and formula to capture the Auto trans temp. the PID is the message header, its what the app looks for to capture the info.There is plenty of info on the web if you do a few Google searches.

It is always powered, but doesnt seem to use any power much or drain the battery. I have left it on for weeks.

The apps have a list. you just choose your car. I can say if they have your car, I dont own that one, but most are the same. ie all Toyotas seem to use the same protocols.

Test your obd 2 plug for power and ground if none check the fuses that go to it and if car dont run check fuses that go to ecm and for power and ground to the ecm

I cant tell you, never tried it with a BMW. There are a lot of groups around so a bit of Googling should pull it up.

Its not good i have it deleted comes again and dont read all codes
+swiftgmx ady sometimes you have to create your own PIDs etc to read messages. Some cars just do have the information to read.

Depends on teh car and what they have on the CAN. The Toyota that I have doesn't. Also mine doesn't have fuel level on the CAN, just fuel usage.
