That means that life on their planet *doesn't* start over after every chaotic period. They're just supremely slower at evolving. All they have to do is keep doing what they're doing already with their tech advancements for a couple more hibernations before they figure out how to leave to a more stable system. By then, Earth would've gone intersteller, and we'd be helping them get to one of the *many* hospitable exo-planets we've found already, rather than them having to conquer.
They dont hibernate all the time during chaotic eras. Most of the time they get utterly wiped out with VERY few survivors and they have to restart their entire civilisation again. It took them millions of years to even recognise the 3 stars because every civilisation that witnessed 3 stars in the sky died too quickly to even record the phenomena. Also due to the impossibility of predicting the suns cycles they had no warning before cataclysms and most of the time they didnt have time to hibernate. They cant wait it out until they develop a solution either for a few reasons. One, they arent THAT advanced. They're only a few hundred years ahead of us at best. Secondly, its stated in the books and even the show that eventually their planet would be completely destroyed eventually by the star systems to the point where they cannot recover. Fun fact, humans may be able to hibernate. A monk who was thought to be deceased was reanimated bc turns out he wasn’t dead but in a state of hibernation. Fun fact, humans may be able to hibernate. A monk who was thought to be deceased was reanimated bc turns out he wasn’t dead but in a state of hibernation.
