    Yeah, not a great game by today's standards, but back when this was released it was amazing to have this sort of game to play on a handheld console.

      Having owned it since back when, it was pretty underwhelming then too. But to each their own

    For me what affect this game was the lack of events and more stuff to do, the fact that you don't have a map to explore also heavily affects the game. Yes, the core aspect of the game is managing a farm, but al those other aspects complemented the game so well that it make it less boring and overall a more fun experience. It still had some nice stuff, but without those aspects it feels empty. The end result wasn't that bad, they tried, but i think they could have done a better job even with the memory limitations.

      That's pretty much it exactly, it has the farm, but that's it, and the lack of other things that the farm work sort of glued together, means all you've got is one big pile of glue, but nothing to hold together, so it has some substance but very little to keep your attention after about 10 minutes.

    I honestly really like this game, probably just because of nostalgia. I played this on 3DS VC and loved it a long time ago. The 3DS sure is old...

    honestly this game was good (or alright) for being the first farming game available on the go.

      I think from the Nintendo power review or preview there was like twice as many things to plant compaired to the SNES version. So at least something new. I wanted this game so badly back in 1998 but I was an ignorant teen. Never saw it on the store shelf. Never saw it on store shelfs at the shops in Canada oddly enough. I wish I knew about ordering stuff in at shops.

    The game has 1024kbits which is as much as what Pokemon has and that is a much more complex game it seems. So combination of lack of time, money, and poor memory use optimization is a probable reason it yielded this result.

      Games back in the day definitely had memory problems, and most of the project was optimizing the system's resources. Game dev now is focused less on memory optimization because the hardware we have is hyper advanced which is why games are >50gb so memory optimization takes too much time and effort its not worth the money

    4:31 if i remember correctly, it was not an umbrella. It was a sprinkler.

      You can buy a sprinkler partway through the game, however there's an umbrella available as one of three post game "prizes" for completing the game with sufficient score.

    I remember I bought this game about 15 years ago at a used game store. I was expecting big things having played MFoMT but pretty much within 10 minutes of playing I already knew I was going to take the game back. Which I did. Kinda regret that now since you said it’s fairly pricey these days lol.

    I've played this one and the GBC version, and the original bored me to tears. I haven't played much of the GBC version, mainly because it's hard to find time to sink into it, but I remember it engaging me for the little time I did spend with it. I've yet to play Friends of Mineral Town.

      You should, it's kind of the best one in terms of amount of content, and quality.

      Mineral town is good as harvest moon goes. I thought the gbc version was just a colourised version of this

    cool video I was always into harvest moon more for the farming stuff and relationships second but I can absolutely understand how axing such a big part can hinder or ruin the experience. also wow didn't know harvest moon was on the GB

      Technically there were three, though as I understand it the first two are the same game with the second just being able to utilize the GBCs palette, and the third being a GBC exclusive, but basically had the whole console experience, plus a few extra features.

    they probably should have just made a different game entirely rather than try to bring the SNES one over. GBA had allot of terrible ports like that where they really tried to pretend this was just like the PS2/GC counterparts.

      I agree, there would have been far more sensible options than what we got, hell they could've reduced the farm size by 4/5 as all that space is more or less wasted for farming, and replaced that with anything and it would've been a more engaging experience.

    Am I the only one who thinks this game is similar to Stardew Valley?

    • @730indoorsman
      @730indoorsman ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Stardew Valley was designed as a successor to the Harvest Moon series

    • @TenebreAngel
      @TenebreAngel 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Stardew Valley's creator loved Harvest Moon. That's why he decided to make a game inspired on it.
