    I live in Nevada. If you fly over in a plane, its featureless. If you drive, its beautiful. It's absolutely mind blowing at sunrise, sunset, or during thunderstorms as the shadows fleetingly reveal the secret vistas of the landscape.

    As far as I know, US 50 is the only 2-lane road that completely traverses this country, from just outside of Baltimore, all the way to Sacramento, California. Drove the entire thing back in 1971, in my `65 Buick Riviera Gran Sport. That was a great trip ! The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Who, Tull, Yes, Creedence, and about 30 others were all in heavy rotation in the 8-track player :-)

    My wife and I drove this in Sep of 1996 from Jackson Hole Wyo, overnight at the Parsonage House in Eureka and onto Lake Tahoe. Fantastic drive even bought a "Highway 50 Loneliest Road in America" tee shirt in Austin. Very few cars we saw on this hwy but unfortunately one was the Sheriff from Eureka and would you believe he was drivng a Camaro . And yes after following us for about 10 miles,he pulled us over when coming into Eureka. Did not get a ticket for speeding but got me for driving in the center of the road..Icing on the "Cake"....Fantastic time back then...and a fantastic drive on lonely 50. Can remember this spectacular trip like yesterday day.. Parsonage House in Eureka like an overnight dream..

    My Grandfather was born in Fallon. His Dad & Uncle had a stage coach company that was involved in the last Wells, Fargo & Co. payroll robbery that wiped them out. They all moved to San Jose.

    Sir---------in the summer of '77, my late-wife & I took US 50, going back to Denver, from LA. wE DECIDED TO JUST TRY IT & SEE , & WE ABSOLUTELY FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. There's a part of me, that many times wishes, I could live in a small town like Fallon & Ely Nevada. I'm a big city boy, but I love the small towns on old Route 66, & on US 50. We cut over to Hwy. 285, through the Mountains of Colorado, & finally back to Denver, in 2+ days. We drove our '70 Ford Maverick, a 6 Cylinder engine, with A/C & Automatic Tranny, with new tires, a full check up in LA, & we never had a problem. ----------One of my very best memories, ever. I used to love to drive. ---------------Sadly now, I don't drive anymore. It saddens me, but at 74 y/o, it's just not smart or safe. --------------------------Wolfsky9, 74 y/o

    I drove Hwy 50 from Sacramento to Gunnison, Co. in 1973. It was an epic drive. So much so that I did it again in 2001 and once again in 2005. I agree that everyone should drive at least a part of Hwy 50 once in their life. For anyone interested in geology and driving, I recommend the series of books called "Roadside Geology". Each book covers the geology of a state along the interstates and state hwys and is referenced by mile marker.

      I visited the Black Canyon of the Gunnison in the early 1990s. It was an amazing canyon, and even during the height of the summer tourist season, there were hardly any other cars there. I drove from viewpoint to viewpoint and marveled at the depth of the canyon. That place is definitely worth seeing.

      Missus and I drove a camper van from Darwin to Perth, nearly 4000km counting side trips, in one month... roads not too shabby at all, until one took turn offs for campsites 'off the beaten track' (90 mile beach being a good example.) when it became just a semi-graded dirt road. Overall, though, a magnificent experience which we intend to repeat, maybe in the opposite direction from Perth to Cairns. Termite mounds as folk art are pretty cool and amusing, and the termites don't seem to mind!

    Neat video. Brought back memories of driving a 1990 Ford Festiva from Cali back to Iowa. The little Festiva didn't have enough power and would only pull the passes in 3d gear. An older couple at Fallon told us it would be best to not drive in the dark............it was open range and the cattle would come out and lay down on the warm pavement. They said the last thing you want to do is hit an angus cow laying in your lane with her back to you. Festiva against cow, nobody wins that one.

    Also the friendliest road in Nevada unless you are an Asshat, most of the people who live here are just plain common folk who like to hear of other things from far away places, like Reno, or San Francisco. I live near the old Ghost town of Belmont Nevada, so Fallon and Austin are the go to places for me. I love the serenity and the quiet of the mountainous area that I live in, wouldn't trade it for anyplace else. Thanks for the great video of our area, and stay safe out there.

      @ApartmentKing66 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, doncha just love when cops patrol desolate roads for the sole purpose of catching speeders? I'm normally in their corner, but sometimes, it seems like they needlessly go out of their way just for the sake of writing tickets to give themselves something to do and to look good to their bosses. It's as if it's one big game to them. If someone's tearing down I-80 through Reno at 100 mph, that's one thing. But to sit with a radar/lidar gun on, say, US 375 between Warm Springs and Rachel (or any other stretch of road in the middle of nowhere where you can do 100 without even realizing it), that's ridiculous.

      @Dave Smith That's what I'm wondering. It's a pretty major route across country. I drove it when I was relocating when I was in the Navy, but I returned home for my 30 days of leave (plus a few more for travel) from Virginia to Las Vegas (my home town). There's plenty of traffic, not just from freight semi trucks, but passenger cars as well.

      @@JimmyMon666 I agree. I have driven four times on I-40 in that stretch. It is fairly busy, as you have written. Once, in my case, a poorly-fastened sheet (plywood or steel, I am not sure) flew off from another vehicle. Fortunately, it did not hit another vehicle or person!

    Brings back memories. Went west to east on a motorcycle in 110 f heat! You did not mention all the rock signage on the shoulders. Pretty entertaining!

    I just discovered this channel a couple days ago, for the last four years me and my wife have gone on a 2 Week road trip in October, unfortunately we had to cancel this year’s trip with everything that’s going on it’s easier than stressing about everything to just take a longer one next year. This channel has made me smile it makes me miss the open road I can’t wait for that long road trip next year so for the next week or so I will be binging your channel thanks for bringing such great content I can’t wait for the next video.

    I was stationed in Fallon at the navy base and Fallon does look different then when I was there. I did enjoy going to the college baseball games while I was there

    * I took hwy 50 back in 2001 as a truck driver..took it in a snowstorm once i hit higher elevation. Big rigs are not really recommended in the winter.👀But..this was a late september surprise lol. Anyway enjoyed the ride. great video my friend & thanks for sharing. Happy trails!*

    I live in Fallon and I will tell you where my favorite stop along this route is... A little 1 horse stop named Middle Gate it was a stop on the Pony Express. Great place to stop for a burger about 50 miles east of Fallon.

    Thanks for sharing! Such a pretty drive and appreciate all the effort you put in to make these videos so professional! One of my favs of your channel -- all that wide open blue sky with the big, white clouds. Enchanting. And glad you watched that gas gauge, I'd hate to get stuck low on fuel on that stretch of road LOL!!!
