    Interesting. I have never seen a mini van with an awning. Learn something new every day! - Michelle

    That red minivan goes so well with the fall foiliage!

      Does the awning cause air flow to drag and create more gasoline usage?

      The smaller one didn’t have any impact with the air, but I’ll know soon about this one.

    I’m building out a new Sienna minivan. I want to be as stealth as possible, therefore I plan to make an awning that I’ll store inside the van. It won’t be as nice as one of these, but it will create a decent shaded area.

      I’ve seen a few that attach directly to the factory rails, then stow inside of the van when not in use.

    Great Video, thank you for posting. I am done with my first mini van build out and mostly done with outfitting it. I still have (2) window black out panels to fabricate and a wish list to work on. Upgrading my house battery(s) and adding an awning are the two major items I need to address.
    Your video is timely (grin). . . . thanks again.

      Awesome. Have you done any camping in it yet? Also, which awning do you plan to use?

      I did my first camp out with a mock up of a Rock n Roll bed design last May. I have been on a few other camp outs during the modification/refinement process of the original over all design. I just got my diesel heater configured, computer monitor installed and all interior base build items finished. I have not decided on which awning I will go with... OR perhaps fabricate something. I think this is needed more in spring, summer etc, and not so much for winter camping. Upgrading house battery to supply my 2kw Inverter is higher on the list. Your videos have been a big help in my design/build project... so, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.!

    I put 8 ft rhino rack on both sides. I've used one at time or both. Depends on needs at sure i choose and how i park. Love it and looks very balanced

      That’s awesome. The rails I mentioned in the video are sold by Rhinorack. It’s tempting to get them, but I’ll wait and see how these ones hold up.

    When I plan to build my mini camper I would love a roof rack and in the base of the rack is a pull. Put awning and whe. It not being used it just looks like a normal roof rack. I have no idea if such a awning exists but it would make my vehicle less conspicuous than having a awning on one side of vehicle. Just my few pennies worth and live the videos and blessing from Bonnie Scotland

      This company sells a quick release set that goes with the standard rails. I might eventually go to the standard rails, and would add those quick release attachments.

    Are the clamping brackets from the Yakima awning for the OEM rails from Yakima? Ive never seen such a clamp before. I'm currently waiting on my Smitybilt awning to arrive and so I'm researching brackets and installations for my Sienna regarding the OEM rails. As you may know there is only about 1 company that makes roofracks for Sienna and they have been out-of-stock for a long time now and may not make more. So I have to just deal with the roof rails but i have not seen any company that makes brackets for the OEM roof rails regarding awnings. Passenger vans just don't get no love from the overland companies.

    The best option you could add to your car is tinting your windows. Maybe most people don't understand this, but stuff that protects heat transfer into the car, also prevents heat transfer out. And visibility is pretty key to stealth anything. I got high quality ceramic tint on all 10 of the windows on my Pacifica for $320. Tint does not replace privacy at night, because the way it works with the light source, you'll still need drapes or something. I am suggesting this because if you make the glass itself your insulation, it won't let a lot of sun stuff even get into your vehicle to hit the solar shades and what not. I worked in residential and commercial window applications and I'm just informing anyone who might read this that the options you have for you vehicle windows far exceed what you'd even do to your house(Low-E, Low-E^2, Argon, etc).

    • @AdventureGearTV
      @AdventureGearTV  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s an excellent idea. Unfortunately, my state has a limit for tint. This minivan comes from the factory at the limit, so it would put me over the limit to add ceramic. Unless they make a clear ceramic that could go over the OEM tint.

    • @witHonor1
      @witHonor1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AdventureGearTV Probably not, but why pick a minivan in the first place. I live in California, stricter than Texas or Missouri or Delaware about tint, and I put 5% on the back 5 windows, 35% on the front 4 and a 5% strip at the top of the windshield. I lived in all those states and more. This video is about attaching an awning to the roof of your vehicle. You gave up on stealth already. Tint your windows.
      I don't want to use your channel to promote myself, but I actually bought an Ecoflow Wave2. I'm telling you how to make it better. If your windows are more efficient, temperature controls are more efficient.
      Your back windows in certain sunlight from the outside, already look like you have 5% tint. But when you're inside, where cops can't police, I can tell you have stock tint. You won't get into trouble. There's almost no way your state is worse than California.
      I've watched a lot of your videos. You're wasting energy. I'll pay the fine for you if you get a tint ticket.

    Maybe I'm missing something here but wouldn't it be a lot cheaper, easier, and more compact to use a tarp and a couple of telescope aluminum poles with cords and stakes?

    I have a Slim Shady and what soured me on it, is how PROFOUNDLY difficult it is to stow it, particularly with only one person. The cover was a tight fit and just very finicky zipper tending to get stuck at the 2 points where the Velcro wraps were made. I’d like an awning IF someone could demonstrate one that’d easy to deploy and stow.

    • @AdventureGearTV
      @AdventureGearTV  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lubricating the zipper can help with this. It seems like this one has a similar design inside.

      The driver side in practice on roadways is the dangerous side. This psychology spills over into these type of decisions, but also, if you're going to add extremities to your vehicle, you put them where they're safest in the slow lane. Passenger. For more evidence, see how many people put their beds behind the driver seat. The safe stable stuff, versus the possible projectiles in relation to your head.
