I have a MK2 Supra my self and there is no desirable vehicle in the sports/affordables now day's that can compete with the older vehicles designs and rawness that they have.

Pure liquid zinc oxide then covered it with a truck bed liner underneath keep it from rusting out again after three layers of, rust resistant zinc primer, paint and clearcoat. Then outside skin got 2 coats primer, 3 coats color and 7 coats clear, wet sanding between each then polished to death. Love it. I've only put 10 miles on it since the rebuild. Almost sold it once but my wife said "no way!" LOL! Happy wife, Happy life!

I drove up to the guys place and asked if the Datsun I saw thru the fence was for sale He said yes but nobody wanted it cause it had lots of rust. It was complete whole and rusty no floors left. Old cracked air dam hanging on the front held up with a piece of wire. Had not run in ten years. Home made round tail lights fiberglassed in the back and the entire car was ROLLER PAINTED, with house latex paint! To preserve it " I can only think it's why the owner did it as he painted very thing Everything rubber, Chrome's glass, EVERYTHING. I I bought it 1,500$. I took it home and stripped it down to a shell Get this! While I was working on it 2 weeks later, a man drove up said I see you working on this Datsun Z! "You should buy mine!" I said let's go look at it, the guy was two miles away!!! Remember I have not seen 1 in 9 yrs and now with in 2 weeks I found 2. His was for 30 yrs a street racer car with a 383v8 in it with an automatic. But now it had no running gear but it had three pedals being an original Standard Shift car. I paid 500$ dollars for this rusty Z, it needing floor boards and all the rust repairs the other Z needed So here we are 6 yrs later, I'm almost finished with one, As I rebuilt them both at the same exact time. I'm finishing one to daily And the other to sell to recoup my costs of my car. Today the prices are 30,000$ dollars more for a restored car. So I'm very happy I invested every night and free day and every week end to building two cars at once. Pay check to pay check. A very long struggle. I'm finishing the details on my daily retro back dated 280Z with carbs, 240Z tail lights,G nose .. Then I'll pick up on my 240 Z ,semi modded L28,pretty much stock 240, to keep value high. For resale.And finish it for sale! Then my plan? Look for two more rusty Z cars nobody wants to put the time into having fresh metal, into a rusty Z !
I grew up in a die hard Chevrolet family, but the Datsun Z’s were the first car that drew my attention to Japanese cars. Fast forward 20 years of driving and racing Hondas, and I still have such a soft spot in my heart for these.
That's a shame really, it's a period correct color that looks really good. It's not my car, but if it was, I would keep it burnt orange as a base coat but three-stage it (with a light pearl?) under the clear. It would still keep that burnt orange originality, but have the deep luster of a modern custom paint job. I look forward to seeing more of this car in the year to come. Maybe a build update at some point?

What a great project car! I had a 71 240Z for a while (accident), and a 71 PL510 for 13 years (stolen). Enjoyed both cars. These are great cars to work on as they're not overly complicated. And they are so light weight! A little power goes a long way with these featherweights.
One of the first videos I've seen that actually didn't want the Webers. I used to operate FSS (Fuel Systems Specialities) back in college. We used to make tooling and reman these carbs. Awesome to see someone keep them over the Webers.

I have a couple of 79 RX-7's and I just can't imagine doing too much to the exteriors. They just get more special looking each year in stock form. Same for the original Z.
I have a 1971 240Z. It's been totally redone and greatly improved from 4 piston front Calipers to 3-Webber DCOE 40 mm double barrel carbs and Canon long barrel intake, headers, Mallory dual point distributor, Centerforce II dual friction clutch, limited slip-possitraction R-200 rearend, front & rear sway-bars, etc, etc... I was rebuilding it back when Princess Diana died and only put 10 miles on it since that time. Now, I got to pull it out and enjoy it this summer! Thanks for the reminder!
Dude, i love your car. I used to have a complete all original, Vin's matching, 100% straight body/no bodo, 74 260z. It even had the original working stock stereo. I loved that thing! Unfortunately, it was a rust bucket! The whole car had to be stripped down to bare metal, especially the floors. I ended up selling it for $3,500 last year. After looking at the prices they are selling for now a days.I regret it so much hahaha. The stereo alone is worth 1k

Felice Alketti unfortunately I don’t, wish I had the time for one. Yes, probably one of my favorite parts on the new motor besides the Mikunis is the Twin Idler. Has been sitting in my garage until I found installation instructions in English and help from my friend that was able to get one installed on his motor. Very hard to find any info or other Z owners that have actually ran it on their motor setup.

Would be really interesting and to bad if we/I cannot participate :) where have you found instructions for the twin Idler? Planning to install one together with a tomei cam early next year.
