Listen guys, you can like or dislike the voice, but you cannot deny the artistic personality behind it! There are/were times that I don't like some things about her, but she was a person very rich inside on an artisitic, musical and emotional level. Only someone who is exceptionaly gifted can sing in such a enticing way. Gorgeous, thank you!! A great tribute to a truly great singer.
Thank you so much, its nice to see someone on youtube who honours Miss Schwarzkopf as she deserves. Pure brilliance, cant say anymore or ill cry. She will be forever remembered
Mikaelangelus......Thank you so much for this my very most Favourite Vidio, such beautiful photos this really is a way never to forget this most beautiful of all Singers...Mulchames
Faultless: all sopranos who sing this music have to be measured by her standard and she set the bar very high; I heard her in opera in LA and as well her many recitals. They were always thrilling events. She was as beautiful as her voice. What a combination!

Dame Elisabeth was a wonderful teacher, when you've understood her. She was very strict but with one rigorous and one loving eye. I've never learnt as much in a short time as with her! A fabulous woman and a great singer, even if i dislike a little bit her too artificial manners during her last singing period, but she did as well, like she told me.
How beautiful she was!!!she sang as beautiful as she was. I have always loved her, how she sang Mozart, Strauss....lieder; how she sang Schubert, Schumann...BRAVAAAA ELISABETH!!!!
Defend her voice as long as need be to still those who compare her with other great singers of her era. There is no comparision only enjoyment of the voice plus all the years of training it took to be able to show the world its sound.
Who cares what they say about her, politics are dirty and if one has to survive like she did in those times one does what one can. She is one of the best singers of the century. the Four last songs are an example, no one does it like her, and the reason is by listening to he master class, the singing is in the head, not the throat, not the chest but the head, feel the words, taste them in the mouth and then deliver them to the audience. That is what she did.
Seems that you have not learned much about the nazis and their murdorous system. She joined the nazi party and affiliations 3 times. She was NOT a 'muss' i.e a 'muss' was someone in that time who became a member of the nazi paty in order to get a promotion or high ranking job. ( b.t.w her diction is horrible) www.theguardian.com/music/2006/aug/24/classicalmusicandopera.secondworldwar
Sounds like Porgi Amor to me in German, no? Yes, a very great singer, if a very hard person at times. Hard to believe she let Walter Legge direct her almost every move with such a strong personality.
Can't beleive why she would let Walter Legge dictate every move she made, he belittled her in public, and all that smoking?? why did she stand for it?? She was a very beautiful, intelligent woman.. go figure.
@DCFunBud Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but do not forget that Lisa Della Casa was officially dubbed "the most beautiful woman to grace the operatic stage." In my opinion, beautiful inside and out. Schwarzkopf could be very beautiful, but needed a lot of make up (imagination?) to carry it off. And there are some who wouldn't want to come within a mile of her interior.
I dont think this was the sole reason Marlene left Germany my friend.I think she, like many others could hear the rumblings and sense what way the wind was blowing (Politically speaking ) She had no desire to go down that road, which as we now know led to so much horror and destruction on all sides...
I agree with All the Above in regard to Schwarzkopf's total being as a supreme artist. She was exceptionally beautiful, exceptionally talented, dogmatic in her insistence of what was "right," and she herself was usually right. An exceptional voice, a unique timbre. There remains the Question of her politics, but let's remember that some people are better at what they do than who they are. She did sublimity awfully well.
You couldn't be more wrong. Dietrich's sister Elisabeth was married to the man who ran the Wehrmacht canteen & cinema at Belsen for the Nazi staff, and they lived comfortably in a cozy apartment with plenty to eat. Dietrich was horrified to learn this & denied her sister's existence for the rest of her life. Her mother spent the war trying to keep her family's clockmaking business in Berlin afloat, and died of a heart attack in November, 1945
that utter nonsense - Schwarzkopf would never had said something that ridiculous - btw, perfect La Traviata is Moffo... - why bring Callas here at all?!?!
Sublime beauty and perfect voice .. but already 'this was enough ... no!!! was required adherence to a political idea and cultural support for the extermination ... Beauty and voice are not worth 'anything .....

There is nothing like a Dame! Dame Elisabeth sings this like no other. Only Dame Kiri can compare. God bless you, Elisabeth.
Classy wonderful woman! Beautiful! Pulchritudinous!

Nice pub and posed performance photos-- what a pretty face. Where's the footage?

A sublime voice. Maybe she is up there somewhere singing for Mozart.

Great, great voice!! Lousy person!! I can live with that. I just listen.

Sounds a bit too heavy.
that utter nonsense - Schwarzkopf would never had said something that ridiculous - btw, perfect La Traviata is Moffo... - why bring Callas here at all?!?!
You´d better stick to Racine.....

How can anyone be so ignorant. What does talent have to do with politics? Grow up and appreciate music without any bias.
