Wings desperately needed at least a point out of this to stop the bleeding. Larkin being out exposes our lack of a high end center. Compher is a borderline 2C/3C. Copp is a 3C. The worst draft lottery luck in the entire league the past 5+ yrs is showing. Good on Stevie to make the best of it, but you can’t win without a legit top center. I hope Yzerman can do a GM career defining move to somehow get one, like Vegas did with Eichel. Imagine Draisatl in the Winged Wheel. Slots Larkin appropriately down to 2C. Compher to 3C.

Much needed win. Vegas was good for 2 periods and although they scored 3 times in the 3rd they only put 5 shots on net. Good game by Hanifin also. He’s a keeper

Welp, maybe next year for the wings. I was hoping for it this year, but there’s always been that big huge landslide during the stretch and it got us again. The fact that Larks being out COMPLETELY disintegrates the team is pretty telling. They’re improving a ton, and we did t have to sell at the deadline, but we’ve got a ways to go I’m afraid. We MIGHT squeak in, but the NYI are nipping at our heels now.

I’d say there’s no chance they let the reigning Conn Smythe winner and team leading scorer go but even I know with Vegas, there is no certainty.

How many goals do the Red Wings defensemen let in playing goalie instead of playing defense?? I realize this is common in the NHL and has been for a while but I'm going to focus on the Red Wings. Why are defensemen and forwards trying to play goalie(?) AND abandoning their jobs as defensemen and forwards?
The Hertl trade is good for vegas if he is not hurt. The odds are he will be more productive compared to both of those 2 late first round picks combined. Plus the knights get 2 3rds as insurance. Hertl could be a ppg player if used right.
The sharks GM was unwillingly to look for a better deal for the sharks in the off season or Hertl might have had a hand in speeding this trade along? I think Hertl had a full no trade clause.
The sharks get 2 late first round prospects and 6.7 mill of cap room but have to pay 1.4 mill a year for 6 years for hertl and lose 2 3rds. This is why you should not give out bad contracts so you do not have to pay to have someone take it away.
From the sharks POV hertl is 30 and could get injured. The sharks are not a contender with hertl even when he plays well and his 8 mill of cap did not help the team rebuild either. The 2 firsts and 6.7 mill helps the sharks rebuild with prospects, cheap vets or deals like duclair to flip for a profit. All 3 are probably better for a rebuilding team and less risk of injury.
The knights can profit off injuries so that has no fear for them.
Hertl was a shark like 10 and a half years? that is crazy. He was one of the sharks top 3 best players this season. I hope Hertl gets to play with Jack. The knights could use Hertl to be a new stone like player until his return.
The only fight Hertl was in? was with Mark Stone and both were throwing bombs. I wonder if they will talk about it when they meet as teammates.

I believe it was reported that Stone, recovering at home and cleared to drive, picked up Hertl from the airport. How do you like that?
Also, I don't know what you're likely to get with our 2025 first, but I wouldn't sleep on Edstrom. He's big and smart and has a nice shot, and if he fixes his skating he'll be a fringe 1C right off the jump on a post-teardown Sharks team.
I still don't know how McCrimmon managed to get both retention and draft capital out of the Sharks on that trade, that's bananas. The Sharks had to have all the leverage taking a call on a player who wasn't on the block, but aside from Edstrom, that deal reads like a complete capitulation on paper.

Sharks are not good as a team even when he plays good. On a playoff team he will actually matter and he knows it.
There was Buff fans talking the Jack curse but the overall team has to be good enough for the best player to really matter.
The sharks had to pay another team to take that bad contract away. The knights got injury insurance by the extra 3rds and retention.
This was all about the 6.7 in cap Grier wanted for rebuild.
Hertl was the sharks Mark Stone but stone is probably better overall.

I would say there’s no dishonour in this loss. You’re facing the Stanley Cup winning team who just picked up a whole bunch more scary players. Red Wings have always been outclassed in terms of muscle, this one made it an absolute joke.
@@OkayRocket30660 Depends what you mean by “always”. If you’re a new fan then yes, the past 7 years or so they have been soft. But back when they were fun to watch and winning, no they were one of the toughest teams in the league. Great memories.

Remier and hill are both backup quality goalies. The knights could have used hertl today.
The wings and knights I do not think have the goaltending but we will see.
Hertl's expected recovery time isn't for about a month or so. Should return a couple weeks before playoffs.

Time to bench kane. This team is 19-9-4 without him. With him and at least one of either compher or larkin in the line up, they are 14-12-2. Kane doesn't elevate this roster. He hinders it. Their goals for per game with him is .25 lower than without him and the g.a.a. is now .8 higher than it was without him. That's a over 1 goal swing per game.
It’s extremely unlikely he’s the differentiating factor there. More like the team just isn’t playing as well since he’s been there and that would’ve happened with or without him.

Don’t know what he really could have done differently other than sell completely everything (including Larkin) and not bought Copp or Chiarot to tank as hard as possible for Bedard. With our lottery luck we still wouldn’t have got him then either 😂
