The buildings look fine. The problem is the graffiti. Graffiti in itself isn't even the problem, there are some pretty cool works-of-art graffiti, but most are just trash.
Also, the West owes much of it has to colonialism and imperialism. But China made all that development and growth happen without any history of colonization, imperialism, loot or plunder, which is even more impressive. Credit goes to the sheer hard work of the Chinese people.
