You could check on putting some kind of screw together pipe for that section so you can still take it apart to clean it if needed but it won't randomly work loose. Maybe your plumber will set something up for you.
@LifeHackster I would use gaffers tape instead of electrical tape - much less likely to come off. Instead of taping it, I'd use a brick or other object in the pant to relieve the strain and keep it from backing out. Of a hanging metal strap under the pipe etc.
It is not glued because over time it can get clogged up with slimey mold growth (which can be cleared manually and with a little dilute bleach solution.) It could also be a temporary connection by using a stainless steel screw to hold the junction together. Thanks for the leak detection advice.
LH - Glad that you mentioned installing a water sensor near the HVAC pan. I have the Yolink Bulldog Valve with 13 Yolink water sensor 2 devices around my house and garage. My Yolink system triggered an alert one time when a float valve got stuck in my washing machine causing soapy water to seep out the back of the machine onto the floor which is on the second floor. Yolink system saved me from a lot of water damage. FYI - My homeowners insurance company gave me 10% discount for having the Yolink unit installed. My local county water dept. gave me a one-time $100 rebate on my water bill for installing the system. As for the clogged HVAC line, my HVAC tech recommended purchasing bleach tablets to drop in the pipe to keep the pipe from getting clogged. You could also pour a tablespoon of bleach in the pipe. Thanks for sharing the tip!
Thanks for the suggestion on discounts. I have to talk to my home insurance company. I do a yearly 1 gallon of bleach on the pipe as per my builder a while back but I have to check out those bleach tablets.
@@LifeHackster lol i believe i've read online bleach can damage your pipes, they said to use vinegar. but who knows, so much info flying around on the internet.
I agree, found this out exactly like you did, drain pain was not under the drain line, unfortunately, damage was done. and there was no mold, but if not found in time that could possibly happen, great info to know Lifehackster.
I love Yilink and gave 13 of them, ubder washer, water heater, and more. I also have their carbon monoxide smoke detector combo, which is fantastic. They all link up wonderfully and the prices are great. The tech-support is also good. I have not yet put in a powered water shut off because I will need a plumber since I don’t have a ball valve. Great review as usual. BTW my primary drains in both HVAC s are glued.
stupid thing is i'm 90% sure i dont have a water shut off valve anywhere in or leading to my house. i've triple checked unless i'm missing something. the only way for me to turn off the water main is out at the box. so none of these would work for me as i'm sure none of these gizmos would work out at the box plus i'm sure it would be illegal...(they need to be able to padlock it if u dont pay your bill plus you'd be messing with city property etc)
Great tip for others. I’ve had a water leak detector under my HVAC pan like that since 2006 when I had a drain clog. Back then WiFi sensors didn’t exist but they did just beep like a smoke detector which I had it go off years later at night & it saved me from ceiling water damage. Iv since switched over to WiFi ones a year ago & got them everywhere even got one behind our Nespresso machine since it has a water storage container that leaked once 😮
I literally just came down from my attic after putting a yolink water sensor in the drip pan under my AC unit! So many good prime day sales on smart home stuff this year!
yup, been dealing with exactly this! air handler secondary condensation drain line pan. though i didnt have a leak. i am currently thinking through ways to bulletproof the system. I'm thinking, float switch on the backup line, then water sensor in the pan too in case the float switch fails. regardless i'm waiting till winter, too hot up there right now. insurance rates are going up so much i am seriously considering paying my house off and dropping insurance, and so called "self insuring". in that case you'd better believe I'll be looking at every property protection device imaginable lol. For example I'm currently researching what kind of fire protection can be done in the attic (normal smoke detectors dont work up there due to the high temps)
IDK I use the Ring Alarm water/freeze sensors and have been very reliable. I ALSO like the fact that all this is in ONE app and NOT several apps which can be rather cumbersome to keep track of. Ring has been pretty solid for me for well over 4 years now and really have NO complaints. I also use the Ring Pro hub which has MUCH more options that I wont get into here but is worth the extra price if you know how to utilize it's "features" properly with it's backup internet over cellular connectivity for ANY devices of your choosing,
Had something similar earlier this year except the condensate line clogged causing the backup. Made a helluva mess too. Need to pick up some sensors as I've had way too much water in the basement over the years.
If they don't solve the issue or suggest not to glue the pipe, you can put a couple of pieces of wood (like the ones under the drain pan), on the drain pan to keep the drain pipe up
Thanks for this. Not sure if you use Eufy cameras, doorbells etc, but despite rebooting, disabling and re-enabling skills etc, experiencing significant Alexa notification delays - in excess of 10 minutes.
Have the Govee ones and they saved me one time. Highly recommend water sensors to people. I suspect they don't glue them because they get clogged from time to time and that's how you clean them out.
This may be a stupid question but I haven't seen the answer yet so.... If I purchase the Eufy flood lamp for example, non solar, and I don't have the home base, will I be able to get alerts from my phone? Can I talk to people on camera if I'm not home? What happens when the SD card fills up.
Can the Eufy water leak sensor handle the high temperature of the attic in summer? The batteries likely last a shorter time because of the high temp. Some alkaline batteries leak and corrode the contacts when they get old. The Eufy gives a low battery warning I hope.
@@LifeHackster I'm only saying screw the pipes together so you can pull them apart later. A plumber here capped a pipe for me, but, he gluesd the pipes and then put a stainless screw in to hold them together so I could use the pipe straight away. But, you dont have to glue it, just screw it together, so you can undo it later if need be.
It is not glued so you have access to clean it out. The drain gets clogged over time.
That is what I was thinking... I have searched for a less permanent PVC sealant... and I'm thinking caulking..
@@LifeHacksterUse electrical tape to secure the pvc connections. Easy to remove when you have to take it apart.
@@jerryc7016 Yup..thats it.. I'll be doing this tomorrow. Thank you.

What happens when the SD card fills up.
You don’t need the homebase and you will get the notifications on your phone. The SD card loops over.. records over older footage.
does it notify your phone on low battery in the moisture sensor? Could not rely on it without this feature.

Don’t forget the pan for your water heater also
Instead of glueing the pipe, use stainless screws to hold them?
I'll ask my HVAC guy first...but I'm thinking caulking for a less permanent setup.
