Nice vid, I got one of these on layaway, though I do plan on converting it to a G36, not going to cut down the barrel but will have it threaded for a muzzle device. Good info!

Thanks for the info. I've been debating to get an SL8 for a long time as I really like the unique design but the lower capacity single stack mags are annoying and the reported difficulties loading it just adds insult to injury. Of course, I get why HK had to do it with the stupid import laws saying the rifle can't readily accept high capacity magazines. I'd also likely need to get a lower rail and bipod and expensive scope for it so the costs would add up quickly... man.

Yeah, only go SL8 if you either want to convert it, have something close to a G36 or just something different from the sea of AR15s. Either way it's an expensive gun to deal with as far as 5.56 dispensers go.

@@servicerifle16 I wouldn't want to convert it, nor would I want to sink that much money into it. But I wanted a dedicated accurate long range semi-auto rifle. I have a good AR15 for medium range use and don't really want just another AR15 for long range. I mean, this thing is almost perfect but the flaws you and others have mentioned with some of the ergonomics make me question if it's really worth the time and money (not that it's exorbitantly expensive but still a lot). Did your mags get any easier to fully load with time? I heard you have to slide the rounds in like a pistol mag, rather than just pushing them in like a rifle mag.

@@Bristecom yes they load like most pistol mags, as for the spring they haven't loosened yet.

@@servicerifle16 Ok, cool. Also, can you reach the left side safety lever with your thumb? Do you feel like it's still alright ergonomics for a bench rest/prone? I wouldn't be shooting it unsupported/standing.

@@Bristecom my thumb isn't long enough to reach it so I have to break my grip a bit and use the right side safety lever. It's not a huge deal to me but it can be a bit annoying if you're used to ARs. It wouldn't be as bad if it had a G36 grip(I've handled a few). I'd say if AK safeties don't bother you than you probably won't have too much issue with it.

I have mounted a Bushnell(I know, poors scope) scope recently. I haven't taken it to the range yet unfortunately.

@@servicerifle16 I'm bad about running BSA scopes :) if it does good who cares :)

What rail did you put on it? That one appears to sit lower.

It is the SL8-1 rail. It's made out of similar material as the rifle, I believe zytel. It's the same rail used on the early SL8s.
