I tried to keep it simple with the little leaguers, and it got labeled the Nike swoosh. Like the swoosh, it's down and quick to the plane of the pitch, and then a slight angle up and through. Sounds like what the video is saying so I feel as if I am on the right track.

Jokes a side, your ABC's of baseball are very helpful. Got into learning hitting mechanics during and after, a second company slow pitch, soft ball game in 2018. Last week started, to learn to swing with the, bat head pointing to the sky.

Matt, what I highly value about your videos is your ability to explain the concepts involved, as I have found that knowing what I'm talking about has to be combined with properly explaining the relevant issues. Keep up the great work!!
Coaches who preach downward swing through the ball @ 3:00 (as opposed to placing the plane of one's swing on the plane of the pitch) mistakenly believe that appoach will generate more backspin, thus generating longer flight. If one swings as you rightly teach, anytime the mass of the baseball contacts a bat above the centerline of the cylinder shaped baseball bat, backspin will occur, and the rate of spin will be equivalent regardless of the angle of departure, a linedrive over the fence or a hugh pop up - a home run in a beer can.

PERFECT!! THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN NEEDING!!
My mind will not work until it properly understands the big 3 things.
Why something should work that way, How it works that way, and what is wrong to do.
Same thing for science. I still don't understand why one red orb (proton) makes an element (or atom) look completely different if all protons look the same but seems legit.

I never thought swing down ever. If you think slight uppercut what do your hands do?

The truth is that most young kids drop the shoulder before motion is ever initiated and this is also why swinging down is vital just as in tennis, the hand and racket point up and you come down and then thru. In tennis you cover over to produce topspin on the way up but in baseball you drive thru the center or bottom half of the baseball and then up.

Hi Matt, thanks for the video! I have a quick question related to tying your swing to your approach.
I've started playing men's league and as a result have been hitting off a tee at home/going to the cages regularly to dial my mechanics back in (bat left, throw right). When I played, I wasn't as strong and was a bit smaller so I tended to try to inside-out the ball like Derek Jeter instead of trying to pull and really grip it and rip it.
Nowadays, I'm not small, but not huge either (6'2", ~175 lbs) and I find that I still tend to hit the inside pitch the other way for singles and doubles instead of turning on them and cranking them over the fence. While I do enjoy going oppo since it results in a lot of hits against the slightly shifted infielders, I would like to learn how to turn on a ball so I can pull it out as a surprise against pitchers who get too complacent with pitching inside. Do you have any tips on how to do that more effectively? Is it more of a mentality thing than a physical swing change? Thanks!

What do you think of what Hitterman teaches as compared to you? He teaches the barrel snap, one legged swing, up through the ball? I see some similiarities in what you do and what he does.

Hey Matt what about those hitters who’s hands start lower? (Eric Davis, justin turner) Do you think those guys swing down too even though they’re already down?

I would say still starts a bit down then turns up

The key is for a right handed hitter RIGHT PALM UP. If you swing directly down, no right palm up, bat no time in zone, bad results. And as Ted Williams said a "slight uppercut."

3:55 Every coach I ever had growing up taught swing down and swing down through, including my high school coach... Doing my own research now with the tremendous amount of information from former pros like yourself has really shown just how much of misinformation is out there in amateur baseball..

This whole argument is a red herring. I have no idea whoever started this whole "swing down" started. I always preached "hit the center of the ball". That produces line drives and if a little above, a hard grounder, and if a little below, a long fly ball. Hitting "down" is the worst advice any coach could ever give a hitter. All it does is cause confusion. Let athletes be athletes. Making hitting so technical just confuses otherwise talented athletes. Aaron Judge doesn't make billions of dollars by hitting ground balls. Just saying.
